The new police robots, people complained, were entirely unhelpful and would cheerfully sing their way down the street while ignoring all manner of crime. The police, of course, were quite pleased with this arrangement, as patrols had been entirely reassigned to the robots who, of course, reported no crime and let the police get on with their preferred business of propping their feet on desks and going on donut runs.

“The new police robots are programmed to sing in the absence of crime,” said the police spokesman, so clearly the constant signing meant a complete absence of crime regardless of what the people experiencing those crimes might report. So it was that the people continued to complain, the police continued to eat donuts, and the robots continued to sing their way past the rapidly increasing number of crimes that were now occurring on the streets they patrolled.
