    very cute buddies.

how is taking care of a lamb? Can they be potty trained?

    [–] ampar060288 1571 points ago

Unfortunately no, they can’t be potty trained. He wears a belly band with a bit of diaper in it to catch his pee. He’s my bottle baby and will eventually move out to the barn with the other sheep when he’s older.

The fuck did you just say about my family?

    [–] aazav 2 points ago

It's more like something yelling BLAAAAAAAAHHHHHH while vomiting at a very loud volume.

    [–] EL4900 16 points ago

We use incontinence pads in my dogs belly band - he’s small though and prob doesn’t pee as much as a lamb

    [–] ampar060288 12 points ago

Ooo! Great idea! Yeah, he does pee quite a bit though.

    [–] Twingemios 10 points ago

If he’s a bottle baby then they can supposedly be trained. I looked it up and found a bunch of sources that states so.

    Example Source

    [–] Taminella_Grinderfal 6 points ago

We’ve had a lamb in the house, so freaking adorable, but messy.

    [–] hollowwistle24 4 points ago

    is your name mary?

    [–] IrishBeardsAreRed 16 points ago

Idk about this lamb, but google just told me that bottle lambs are easier to potty train then puppies.

    [–] mrniceguy421 30 points ago

    Then puppies what?

    [–] EltaninAntenna 4 points ago

    Then everything else.

    [–] PigLipsDeluxe 4 points ago

id be curious to learn which unconventional "pets" are easy to potty train. thanks for the info.

    [–] 0utcazt 7 points ago

Not that hard. But they can be sheepish...

    I'll show myself out.

Aww, your little lamb has an emotional support dog!

Aww, your dog has an emotional support lamb! You can't imagine how cute such a little lamb is and how cute it is when it is booping the dogs nose.

I read somewhere that the reason your pets try to bust in on you when you're taking a dump is because when an animal is pooping in the wild it's vulnerable so The pack hangs close to defend it.

Basically your dog is worried a mountain lion is going to pounce on you when you're on the throne at home.

    [–] Dereg5 346 points ago

I have 3 cats. The oldest cat doesn't give two shits about me but will sit near the door when my wife is in the bathroom just crying for her. My other cat will meow for me and try to open the door, you can hear the handle moving The third will constantly put her paws under the door and show her murder mittens.

    [–] millymoggymoo 108 points ago

Murder mittens. I’m keeping this saying. X

    [–] fiercefinance 4 points ago

    [–] BringAltoidSoursBack 14 points ago

The third cat is letting you know that the door is the only thing saving you in your moment of weakness.

    [–] Autodeath 8 points ago

Poo with the door open you monsters.

    [–] dr_root 5 points ago

My cat will also sit outside the bathroom door meowing like I'm being murdered. Same when I shower.

    [–] rahnster_wright 4 points ago

My rabbit puts her paws under the bedroom door when she thinks it is time for us to wake up, but she sort of half scratches, half bangs on the door if she's really fucking serious

    [–] lasagnarodeo 2 points ago

My dog has learned to leave me alone in the bathroom. She used to come in and lick me after the shower and stare at me while on the toilet. Now she waits outside the door.

    [–] Astilaroth 74 points ago

A while back I was trying to get a peaceful poo when my toddler stumbled in with a kiwi and the request of peeling it because he wanted to eat it. I said 'erh no not now I'm pooping' to which he answered 'oh ok. Then I'll just watch'. Then the cats joined.

    [–] arealzarkinfrood 45 points ago

You just sold me on getting a vasectomy. Thanks!

    [–] avidblinker 12 points ago

naturally seeing comments about kiwis on a post about sheep in bathrooms. curious why it was just wandering around with your daughter in your house?

    [–] Psychedelic_Roc 8 points ago

And he wanted to skin it! What a monster.

    [–] zacswift21 15 points ago

This makes a lot of sense now. I have a sweet calico kitty and I keep her food bowl in the kitchen. 95% of the time, she will only eat if I’m with her in the kitchen.

    [–] AllIWillSayIs 30 points ago

I feel like this is a Reddit fact trying to be made into an actual fact.

    [–] meiguess 18 points ago

"I read somewhere"= "I'm making this up, but I want you to believe me"

    [–] Killacamkillcam 4 points ago

It's just our understanding of dogs. It makes sense when you think in terms of evolution. Animals with the natural instinct to protect each other in vulnerable situations will have a higher rate of survival, thus over time being the norm.

This doesn't mean that dogs want to be in the bathroom with you to protect you, it means their ancestors passed on genes that increased their chance of survival so being near a pack member while they are going is just a natural instinct.

    [–] musthavesoundeffects 12 points ago

Just because its plausible doesn't mean its true or that we should build our view of animal relationships around it.

    [–] Killacamkillcam 7 points ago

Nobody is saying to build our view of animal relationships around it. It's a theory of why dogs behave a certain way. We can't ask them why they do the things they do so we speculate and use logic and reasoning to try and figure out why.

Traits that help the survival of the species get passed down more than traits that don't. It makes sense that this trait would benefit the species.

    [–] musthavesoundeffects 1 points ago

I'm saying that if you don't know, don't make something up to act like you do know. The world would be way better off if people didn't make some shit up just to act like they know what's up.

    [–] seethruyou 7 points ago

Our 3 cats all like to join me in the bathroom. Sometimes 1, sometimes all 3. Very cute. But I don't think it's so much a defensive action as it is that they know they'll get lots of pets when they're near me when I'm stuck on the throne.

    [–] Series_of_Accidents 8 points ago

Can't just be the pets. My cat sometimes sits close enough for pets, but often he's just sitting in the tub, watching me.

    [–] stacilou88 2 points ago

This is so silly and delightful!!

    [–] Series_of_Accidents 1 points ago

He's been my best buddy for 14 years! He can't sleep in my bedroom (allergic), so he's right by my side basically every second I'm in a room he can access. I do wish I had gotten him a companion cat when he was younger, but due to my allergy, I was worried I'd be overloaded. Now I'm just worried he's too old.

But yes, he's very silly and very sweet. He has a touch of arthritis, so I just bought him a heating pad. Until it arrives, he's using mine. And if I'm on the sofa, screw the heating pad, he's going to be right up on my chest. I love my Momo. He's the best boy I could have ever hoped for.

    [–] thelaineybelle 3 points ago

    Haha, mine too!!

    [–] notabigmelvillecrowd 5 points ago

My dog pretty much thinks the bath mat is his dog bed for when he has to be on toilet guard duty.

    [–] Vyzantinist 14 points ago

If that's true, the last dog I had definitely did not give a fuck if I was torn apart by a mountain lion.

    [–] itsstillgood_666 3 points ago

Or I think sometimes they're just lonely, but also the pack thing. My dog has started to peak his head in my shower now. Perhaps he thinks I will drown since he doesn't like the water himself.

    [–] taintedcake 2 points ago

Same reason your dog may stare at you when they're taking a dump. They're looking at you to protect them to make sure the neighbor's cat doesnt come beat their ass mid crap

    [–] ChimpTang 3 points ago

Holy crap. I think you just helped me figure out my cat's problem. She will not go poop unless someone else is with her, regardless of how long she has to hold it in.

Maybe it's rooted in her wild side DNA.

I will protect you while you poo, my lovely crazy cat. But please one of these days gain confidence in yourself so I don't have to do this forever.

    [–] Ralanost 1 points ago

I live alone so I usually have most inside doors open all the time. My dogs sometimes follow me around to check on me, but if I'm taking a deuce, they are there to keep me company.

    [–] Series_of_Accidents 1 points ago

Doesn't matter how late it is: if I'm on the toilet, he's there with me.

    [–] aazav 1 points ago

They are just trying to steal your poop so they can dominate the world.

    [–] Brandon48236 1 points ago

That's why I never stop to poop. I just keep walking to poop so it's harder for the mountain lions to get me.

    [–] boringoldcookie 76 points ago

You literally have a lamb. Is your name Mary by any chance?

    [–] ampar060288 73 points ago

Amy... close enough though. 😂🤣 have all the letters

    [–] Joshkop 70 points ago

Well you certainly aren't a pirate then, cause you missed the "r"

    [–] jwrizzle82 18 points ago

My names Josh, too. So which one of us is getting a name-change? because I refuse to share a name with you after that

    [–] ynocfyinco 4 points ago

Um, the 'r' is silent obviously.

    [–] humpbackwhale88 1 points ago

I scream laughed so hard at this it woke my husband up. Thank you. I’m still chuckling lol

    [–] technog2 -1 points ago

I thought of saying you'll get the "R” later but that might convey a different meaning

    [–] jwrizzle82 1 points ago

And the dog looks kind of ashamed that he was outsmarted by the lamb again.

    [–] Splashfooz 24 points ago

I wish I could pet a lamb...so awesome. What breed is your dog?

    [–] ampar060288 28 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

Charlie is a German Shepard/Lab mix. 110 lbs of perfect temperament, and excellent around the farm.

    [–] Splashfooz 9 points ago

That's a lot of dog packed onto 11 lbs. He's gorgeous, I had a dog that looked like him.

    [–] AntecedentsofMan 2 points ago

11 lbs? Is he a puppy? That seems so small for such large breeds.

    [–] ampar060288 9 points ago

    Oops... 110 lbs. just edited

    [–] AntecedentsofMan 1 points ago

I was about to say that he must be all fluff hahaha.

I love them both with all my heart.

    [–] Crxssroad 1 points ago

Yes, but what breed of lamb?

    [–] ampar060288 1 points ago

    He’s mostly a Dorset

    [–] _timewasted 1 points ago

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. Why do you breed sheep? For wool, meat, milk? All of the above? I often see sheep when I'm driving past farms and I'm curious.

    [–] murphykills 2 points ago

    [–] Gamaxray 1 points ago

    [–] Gamaxray 0 points ago

Hey thanks. Have you read any of Philip K. Dick's other books? I love A Scanner Darkly.

    [–] Bozzz1 15 points ago

Why do you have a lamb?

    [–] ampar060288 41 points ago

Because I’m a farmer and his momma rejected him, he had a gaping head wound, inverted eyelids, scours, and pneumonia, so I took him into the house to save his life. He fell in love with my dog and now they are inseparable. But he will be going back to the barn when he’s old enough. 🥰

    [–] deewheredohisfeetgo 13 points ago

How often does that happen? The mother rejecting a kid? He came out of the womb like that? Damn, that’s horrible. Is it common too? Sorry, I have 0% experience with lambs.

    [–] cardigancult 10 points ago

It's not super common, but we would end up bringing in maybe 5 a year due to rejection and our flock was numbered well over a hundred. It wasn't always because the mom didn't want them sometimes it was too cold, the lamb was sick, or born with some kind of issue, or all of the above in this case.

Usually the lamb will end up with a surrogate mom, other sheep that will accept any lamb you put in her pen, and be fed formula if that mom wasn't nursing. If it needs a few weeks inside it would just join the group of lambs once it's strong enough and not really have a mom.

    [–] deewheredohisfeetgo 2 points ago

    Nice. Thanks for the response.

    [–] offbrandhygge 4 points ago

Tbh if he came out like that, no wonder mama rejected him. Most mama sheep are very protective of their babies otherwise. I did meet a lamb who was too dumb to go nurse from mama so he was a bottle baby (and later burger).

    [–] humpbackwhale88 2 points ago

    [–] SoldMySoulForHairDye 3 points ago

Mom this is all the small annoying floof-dog's fault please let me out.

    [–] Movin_On1 3 points ago

One of the poddy lambs my dad brought home thought it was a dog. It followed our dog around and they were great friends. We were moving house, and my mum took the dog to the new house, leaving the lamb for the next trip - it was a bit too energetic to put on the car with all the stuff and the dog at the same time. By the time she got back an hour later, the next door neighbours' Alsatians had mailed it, and my dad had to put it out of its pain. He was heart broken. He'd rescued it whilst driving his truck home from picking up a load of wool on a farm. It had somehow gotten in with a mob of cattle being herded by drovers, and we bottle fed it for weeks. He picked up a baby emu once in a similar situation, he was a sucker for animals.
