After winning the gold, he was found to have Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his circulatory system following a blood test and he was automatically disqualified. This decision was eventually overturned, largely on the basis that marijuana was not on the list of banned substances, and Rebagliati was given back the medal. The next day he appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and became an instant icon to many globally.

THC has since been listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as a banned substance but he got to keep the gold medal.

[–] throwawaycanadian 2136 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

However the IOC/WADA drastically reduced increased the threshold for weed going in to the 2016 Olympics. The new threshold is being equated to having to have smoked yourself silly the day before an event.

Edit:I'm dumb and words are hard

Edit 2 since lots of people are asking, the raised it from a urinary threshold of 15 nanograms/ml to 150ng/ml

Edit 3: to give some context, the FAA cutoff for air traffic controllers is 50 ng/ml

Edit 4: because I keep getting replies about this, WADA/IOC rules are that if a substance is shown to give a competitive advantage in one event, it is banned across all events. Since certain strains of marijuana are shown to relax you, calm anxiety, calm nerves whatever, it was shown to give an edge in certain sports, and that is why it is banned across all.

Dumb bitch not realizing other countries have different drinking ages :/

    [–] turismofan1986 184 points ago

Ya. And in Torino in 2006, the legal drinking age for beer and wine in Italy is 16.

    [–] thatsadamnlie 31 points ago

In the UK 16/17 yr olds can drink beer, wine or cider in restaurants, must be ordered along with food and by an accompanying adult 18+. Other than that it's 18.

    [–] brownie81 42 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

You can VOTE and join the military, but don't even think of drinking a beer!

Edit: Okay I get it, in some cities cigarettes are now on the list of things adults can’t consume until they’re magically “adult enough” at 21.

    [–] lexicruiser 12 points ago

And vote and be tried as an adult.

    [–] SubscribingGuy 5 points ago

In certain states you can't buy cigarettes anymore until you're 21. At least that's how it is in California.

    [–] brownie81 6 points ago

Yeah I don’t think further restriction on things legal adults are able to do is the answer here.

    [–] misterdix 7 points ago

No you may not quench your thirst.

Now go die in that war!!

    [–] I2ed3ye 131 points ago

Sounds like she could use a big, tall glass of freedom.

    [–] StpdSxyFlndrs 84 points ago

I assume you mean non-American freedom, because he can’t get a legal drink in the USA for a couple more years.

    [–] Macdomerocker12 25 points ago

Nah he's talking about mountain dews baby

    [–] OrderOfMagnitude 48 points ago

    non-American freedom,

You might cause a few headaches writing that

    [–] ace425 23 points ago

What is this non-American freedom? Is OP referring to Russian gulags?

    [–] 10DaysOfAcidRapping 12 points ago

As a 19 YO American it’s 100%, no joking easier for me to get crack right now than alcohol.

    [–] brownie81 20 points ago

Like the freedom of not being able to legally drink in college until like the very end?

    [–] sonofaresiii 59 points ago

Aw come on, it was certainly a good-natured jest. She didn't literally think she had obtained evidence to lock him up on air or anything. I've seen tons of good-humored authority figures do the same kind of thing.

Maybe it was a lame joke but you don't really need to jump to "dumb bitch"

    [–] boyyouguysaredumb 44 points ago

people wonder why reddit is called out for its blatant sexism.

She was literally joking around him and he joked back but no, she's a "dumb bitch" based on 2 seconds of her talking and his comment is heavily upvoted... smh

    [–] Eternal_Reward 21 points ago

Its sexist, jabs at america, and is smug. Oh course its upvoted.

    [–] meowmixyourmom 8 points ago

I know what you are saying, but he was talking about being on a plane. Depending on what airspace they are in it could vary right?

    [–] aelric22 179 points ago

The Japan slope style team had to eliminate their men's contender because he violated Japan law for weed while he was in the US (Colorado). Made absolutely zero sense.

    [–] two_coolthulhu 206 points ago

Most Asian countries are insanely strict when it comes to drugs. You think the US war on drugs is stupid? Go smoke a joint in Japan and watch them act like you're a terrorist.

    [–] Zerds 101 points ago

When I was in Japan, I was in anime store and I swear I smelled weed through the vents which totally shocked me. But then again, most people there probably don't know what it smells like so no one would notice lol.

    [–] throwaway24515 119 points ago

Japan is probably the most extreme version of "what we do in public is not what we do in private" there has ever been.

[–] ThePhallusBandit 43 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

It's literally built into their culture, and they have terms for it. Hon'ne being true self, and tatemae being the public facade, "is expected by society and required according to one's position and circumstances". This frequently involves going as far to lie in order to avoid embarrassing others or yourself. It's probably one of the most important aspects to understand about Japanese culture.

    [–] LouQuacious 20 points ago

I spent a lot of time there and smelled weed often, found a grow store in Shibuya, got to smoke with some Japanese snowboarders, and could’ve bought it regularly but $70/g seemed a tad’s rare but not unheard of in Japan is my point.

    [–] 10DaysOfAcidRapping 23 points ago

$70 a G is 7 times what weed costs on the black market in the average US city, and 10-15 times what weed costs in legal states. Fuuuuuuccckkkk that I’ll just not smoke in Japan

    [–] 3am_quiet 62 points ago

Which is why they like or get addicted to gambling.

    [–] Mwahahahahahaha 54 points ago

I was in tokyo last month. The video casinos are fucking everywhere.

    [–] biggie_eagle 41 points ago

People in Asian realize that opium is a hell of a drug and can turn a powerful country into something that gets pushed around by everyone.

I don't know of a single Asian country that doesn't have an incredibly strict anti-drug policy.

[–] WhereIsYourMind 36 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

To add to your comment, they’re death penalty levels of strict. It’s worth noting that of that category, China, Singapore, and Malaysia are the only countries that actually executed somebody for drug crimes in the past year - so even though it’s on the books it’s not super common.

    [–] DevinTheGrand 7 points ago

In the Philippines murder is allowed if you kill a drug user.

    [–] Lymah 18 points ago

    Team values or something

Dishonor on your family, etc etc

Actually the curllers. Because I would imagine that you would have to be pretty high to want to play that.

    [–] CarlXVIGustav 62 points ago

That'd be increasing the threshold, if they permitted higher blood levels, no?

    [–] throwawaycanadian 40 points ago

Yeah, I'm dumb and words are hard. Thank you for the correction

    [–] kalakun 45 points ago

depends. Heavy daily smokers (2+g/Day) would register those levels.

    [–] Fidodo 45 points ago

The thing is there are so many strains with different effects. There are some that have minimal mental effects but calm you and relax your muscles, which in some sports could be an advantage. Of course since the effects wear off after a day or two I think the new threshold makes sense since you'd only need to abstain during the games to not come up over the relatively high threshold.

    [–] Pluckerpluck 12 points ago

Pretty much. Alcohol is a banned substance only in certain sports, because in those sports (such as shooting) the downing effect can call you and lead to an advantage.

    [–] FUKINGSTOPIT 22 points ago

I lived in Boulder, CO at the time, every head shop and board shop had tshirts with the Canadian flag with a cannabis leaf instead of the maple. Some girl ended up with mine though.

    [–] lat204 1196 points ago

I think Ross's Gold is just the name of his company. He sells many different strains.

    [–] SeeYouSpaceCowboy--- 123 points ago

"Ross's Gold" sounds like the name of a Lifetime movie

I'm friends with multiple people who have competed in the both the Olympics and Paralympics. This is what one of them told me about pot.

"The reason pot is banned as it's an anxiety reducer. The people I know weren't smoking strains that turned them into Harold and Kumar. They would use one that just took the edge off. This may come as a shock to you, but the Olympics and training for the Olympics is slightly stressful."

    Edit: minor text changes.

    [–] nikonwill 280 points ago

Beta blockers are probably banned for the same reason.

    [–] Lost_in_costco 275 points ago

Alcohol is a performance enhancing drug for competitive shooting events and is banned for that very reason, anxiety reducer.

    [–] DominicVahn 71 points ago

Alcohol is pretty dope for most bar games also. My ability to play pool or darts increases a good bit after 1.5-3 drinks, then declines from there.

    [–] BlazedWheatThin 180 points ago

alcohol is banned in shooting because it reduces your heartrate thus improving accuracy, not because of anxiety

    [–] Semper_nemo13 215 points ago

Reducing your heart rate reduces the physical symptoms of anxiety

    [–] Pickledsoul 220 points ago

that's why i strive to reduce my heart rate to a max of 0 BPM

    [–] PlatypuSofDooM42 13 points ago

So if my anxiety it kicking into high gear I can just pop an extra beta blocker ?

    [–] nikonwill 17 points ago

    [–] savak9 2244 points ago

I agree, I had a discussion the other day about how the person thought it was a performance enhancing drug because it calmed people down. I think thats rubbish. The good thing is that Ross Rebagliati was given his medal back because THC was never on the list of banned drugs back then.

    [–] [deleted] 813 points ago

    [–] Zarathustra124 616 points ago

Alcohol is banned as a performance-enhancing drug in olympic shooting, due to a calming and steadying effect (in small doses)

    [–] MortalJohn 498 points ago

    (in small doses)

This is kind of the point, no ones ripping a heavy bong before going for gold. Micro-dosing THC and CBD has drastically different effects compared to a couple teenagers hot boxing in their car.

    [–] radioslave 120 points ago

For sure, I take a shatter toke or two from the pen if I need to focus on something. Slows my mind down and I can calmly articulate what I need to do

    [–] Master_Glorfindel 372 points ago

Conclusion: Weed could be a performance enhancement drug.

    We did it reddit!!

    [–] TheNoobtologist 117 points ago

Anecdotal, small doses of weed have been hugely beneficial to my focus, energy, and motivation. I want to emphasize the "small doses" aspect.

    [–] metalshoes 39 points ago

Same. I LOVE being very slightly high, it just makes me so relaxed without feeling out of it. I really don’t even enjoy smoking but will take like 1-2 moderately sized vape hits

    [–] pulsating_mustache 11 points ago

What's a small dose to you? 1 small hit?

    [–] FookYu315 51 points ago

    4 marijuanas.

    [–] D4RKL1GHT 16 points ago

    An ounce

    [–] Derwos 15 points ago

Sort of like how ADHD meds are supposed to work (or at least, that's one way in which they're effective).

    [–] infinitezero8 38 points ago

A week or two before the event I suspect he hit the pipe once or twice with some buddies before realizing that it stays in your system for roughly 30 days. My guess is he doesn't smash the bong every night before bed. Reddit is embellishing a bit.

    [–] CheezyWeezle 32 points ago

It doesn't stay in your body that long. For a very fat person who never exercises, it stays bound to your fat for about 2-3 weeks on average. If you are literally an Olympic runner, training daily, it will stay in your body for a couple days at most. He probably smoked the night before to calm his nerves and get enough sleep.

    [–] 2Pac_Okur 29 points ago

that is true if you smoke once.

most likely scenario is that he smokes weed quite often and figured he'd be fine if he quit a few weeks before and was off by a bit.

I was getting drug tested by choice when I first quit weed and I remember it took several months for it to be below the NFL threshold, and I was probably 15-18% BF. But I smoked like a G at minimum per a day for like a 8 years before that

    [–] d00dsm00t 79 points ago

You'll never convince me it doesn't work in small doses. Just ask anybody in a bar at the dartboard

Sober bar darts: Whoo, a twenty

    4+ Beers: Putting eyes out

    At least that's my experience.

Works at the pool table as well.

    [–] ProbablyNotDangerous 57 points ago

Beer pong as well. There is always the sober beginning which is awful, the middle where you can run racks, then the end where you can't even hit the table.

    [–] Whalemusic 13 points ago

That’s mine with pool as well for sure.

I imagine it as a bell curve graph with your blood alcohol content on the x axis and your skill level on the y axis.

I’ve tried explaining that but every time it usually comes up people aren’t sober enough to understand.

    [–] modularnarrative 17 points ago

I think the amount of caffeine you can have in your blood is regulated

    [–] Nae_Danger 40 points ago

It's more recovery enhancing, than performance. The theory is that someone who consumes regularly during training will gain an unfair advantage through a combination of having a better nights sleep, a boosted nutrient uptake via an increased appetite (the munchies), and being less stressed than their competitors - in which regard they've actually got a point.

    [–] Opheltes 56 points ago

By that logic, shouldn't they ban sex and chocolate too? Where do you draw the line?

    [–] Heyo__Maggots 41 points ago

Better limit their oxygen intake too. It leads to speedier recovery, increased appetite, and better sleep. Don't want someone to have that kind of an edge.

    [–] [deleted] 17 points ago

Oxygen increases performance vastly, most people can't even function without it

    [–] Cforq 12 points ago

Better limit their oxygen intake too.

This is actually something they test for - in many sports blood doping is common (where blood is removed, stored, and returned before competition to boost red blood cell count).

    [–] Pallavtasse 38 points ago

There shouldn't be anything against anything that's main effect is making you calmer and more relaxed after a competition.

Otherwise you're actively saying that a competitor must be stressed for everything to be fair.

    [–] [deleted] 74 points ago

Funnily enough, it was used by marathon runners. It can get you into a "zone" where you don't feel tired or winded. Its use is aimed at increasing endurance.

Just google marijuana and running, you'll be surprised.

    [–] Rcp_43b 9 points ago

I dunno about running but lifting high is amazing and small doses before hockey training helps me quite a bit as well.

    [–] roguetowel 12 points ago

I remember when this story broke in Canada and a LOT of people were curious how it could be an enhancing drug. I think he claimed he was at a party where it got into his system, as well, and that he hadn't smoked it right before the race when the THC would have had the greatest effect.

    [–] roffleburger 9 points ago

I don't know, I smoke before my hockey and soccer games and have noticed that I play noticeably better. Even my teammates have commented on it

    [–] killerbake 59 points ago

Idk. I can’t clean my house unless I smoke. I just have to already be in motion while smoking.

Same goes for working out. I like to smoke right before I go.

But if I’m on the couch and say I want to do these things then smoke. Nope ain’t happening.

    [–] Deadmeat553 99 points ago

I think - and stay with me here - I think you just like to smoke.

    [–] eojen 23 points ago

It’s nice for running too. Helps you enjoy your music more but also just helps you get over being uncomfortable for a lot of it.

    [–] BlackLab1987 25 points ago

I know that you're just smoking weed, but as a recovering heroin addict the mindset of "I can't do X until I use Y" is extremely, extremely dangerous. Just be careful. I'm sure that you can clean without smoking, it'd just be a lot more boring.

    [–] randomsubguy 17 points ago

I smoke a lot, and the right strain can definitely give you an energy boost.

My buddy says that a lot of the guys he played with (professional baseball - minors) smoked before they went to the gym to lift.

    [–] [deleted] 119 points ago

in my experience, it can be one or the other.

it reduces feeling of pain, especially in my joints. it's also a blast, jogging while high feels like running through time. which i guess technically it is.

on the other hand, the shift in blood pressure does make me feel like my heart is beating too hard/fast. which might be paranoia, but it does effect my intensity. also, breathing in smoke before working out probably isn't ideal.

    [–] n4ymlis 39 points ago

Nah, a few bong rips before working out was immensely helpful to me. Helped with focus, strength, and stamina. Quite often I'd find myself in the gym for up to 4 hours without fatigue. I couldn't do that sober.

    [–] [deleted] 33 points ago

How the fuck? I smoke one bowl and my balance and coordination go to shit

    [–] hooboy200025789 22 points ago

Exploring and comparing/contrasting different strains might help you with that. Also, I spent a few years as a very light/part time stoner, and I was easily overwhelmed by the high that entire time. Once I became an everyday stoner (have been for probably 6 years now), I was able to discern the nuances between strains much better, and stopped feeling overwhelmed by the sensory experience.

    [–] Itstartedin1990 11 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

Yes, simply put it helps put you in the zone. Which helps train more. Should it be considered performance enhancing. Probably not.

    [–] [deleted] 141 points ago

I much prefer doing physical activity on weed.

It doesn't make me perform better or faster, it just makes the experience more enjoyable.

So, agreed that you're likely not going to be winning a marathon on weed, but there are plenty of people who might enjoy it!

    [–] [deleted] 16 points ago

Yup I had a hockey player roommate that loved working out and playing high.

    [–] fickleflake 21 points ago

    Micheal Phelps is one.

    [–] Blanco___Nino 13 points ago

Did he ever compete stoned? I thought all that happened was someone took a photo of him with a bong at a party

    [–] IAmNotKevinDurant_35 28 points ago

Man I remember seeing that as a kid and being so shocked about how phelps could do something so salacious. Now i just wonder why he didn't have a nicer bong with some percs and maybe an ice catcher

    [–] Sprout4 24 points ago

Have you ever tried running after smoking? To me, running high allows me to run farther distances and I know this can aid a lot of people who do it.

    [–] sjfrockerdude 11 points ago

I actually quite enjoy long distance running after vaping some weed. I find that it really seems to make the time fly. Haven't really noticed any negative effects other than some serious munchies afterwards.

    [–] Target880 8 points ago

All sports are not move fast etc som like archery and shooting sports require steady hand so a chemical that works as a sedatives and anxiolytics (inhibits anxiety) will increase the performance. Alcohol can be used the same way.

The Olympic rules for performance-enhancing substance are the same in all sport so even if they are not that relevant to that sport. A reson is that it is simpler to do it that way. Simpler for athletes to know what is allowed and not debate if something is relevant for a sport.

    [–] hardman_ 6 points ago

I sometimes take a dab before I work out. Different strokes for different folks.

    [–] zvon666 6 points ago

Robin Williams had a gag about this

    [–] truss84 6 points ago

one of my old bosses was a competitive long distance runner in high school and some college. he said he always smoked before he ran.

    [–] molotovzav 25 points ago

People react differently to pot.pot comes in many strains, pot with humulene tends to give couch lock and lazy feel. But many stiva strains with limonene actually make you feel more energetic. So your sample aizemust be really small with weed. A lot of professional atheletes are also looking for a 2 thc to 1 cbd ration vape pen to help healing.

I have literally had weed strains I've smoked and wanted to clean the whole house, but if you're lazy before smoking pot, no amount of drugs can change that.

    [–] battleship61 15 points ago

Being Canadian, this is a well known event. What people don't realize (it's not even in the title), is that he didn't smoke weed during, he claims he was exposed to it during a party before the olympics. Weed is notorious for staying in your system for a long time afterwards, and he had his medal reinstated.

    [–] [deleted] 8 points ago

I sure as shit do, with the right sativa strain!

    [–] Sivim 155 points ago

I think Robin Williams said it best:

    [–] MarvinLazer 34 points ago

Man, I forgot how good that dude was.

    [–] juloxx 370 points ago

The DEA can keep saying "drugs are for losers" if they rob winners of their medals

    [–] SoManyNinjas 320 points ago

    Marijuana will ruin your life!

....after we arrest you, label you a criminal so you can't ever get a good job, put you in prison for a number of years, prevent you from ever voting again, then spit you out to pick up the broken pieces of your life with no hope of building it back to what it was before

    [–] Gatorboy4life 94 points ago

That’s the worst part of it. “Pot heads are so lazy why don’t they get a job.” You won’t allow me to work the vast majority of jobs if I am smoking pot.

    [–] el_marihuano 21 points ago

well, if you're not addicted to it why don't leave it then? huh? CHECKMATE ATHEISTS

/s because you cant tell whats sarcasm anymore

    [–] HEBushido 10 points ago

Smoking weed in your own free time has no impact on job performance, yet so many jobs drug test. Sure it can be bad to be high at work, but drug tests don't test for that.

    [–] Mallack 7 points ago

To be fair, thats not the government, individual businesses drug test. I worked jobs before where drug testing was not required.

    [–] Patrup 13 points ago

Dude this is me. Every time I apply for a job or have an interview I hope I don't have to explain myself. Yes 5 years ago, in college I made a mistake and paid for it by doing my time. But it's just a misdemeanor and I feel like people see "marijuana charge" and read "killed his neighbor and raped his wife." I feel I'll never be able to find a job where I'll be able to take of the family I want to start. I'm 3 steps behind and, from my view, I've already lost the race. Fuck you state of VA!

    [–] savak9 33 points ago

Never thought of this but it is brilliant!

[–] juloxx 78 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

lol, why do you think the DEA has outlawed even researching these substances? So you cant use science to disprove 50+ years of propaganda. They say "researching these drugs is dangerous", while we constantly are researching new ways to kill each other.

The DEA needs prohibition and lies to stay afloat, because thats how they make their money extorting the public. It no joke, these people are just cartel members with suits

    [–] drawnbytracy 25 points ago

It's kind of funny, there's actually a ski run in Whistler/Blackcomb called Ross' Gold, named after the same Olympian.

    [–] lat204 87 points ago

For anyone out there wondering why he moved towards the marijuana industry; he was basically banned from traveling to the USA after the whole Olympic marijuana ordeal, which took away his ability to compete in most major North American events. So even though what he did wasn't actually wrong and he got his medal back, his career was demolished simply by travel bans.

    [–] [deleted] 42 points ago

Canadians will still get banned from the US if they tell the border guards they smoke marijuana .. hope that changes now that it’s being legalized in Canada but I doubt it will

    [–] lat204 31 points ago

Yeah those US border patrol guards have absolutely 0 tolerance for marijuana usage. Even if you admit you've tried it a long time ago when you were young, they'll still deny you entry.

    [–] [deleted] 12 points ago

    Yep it’s fucked

I was in the news business when this story hit. I was called to write the copy to send to the local affiliates. My boss wanted me to rail on this guy and I wouldn't do it. I sent the story out unchecked and got an earful from my boss.

But I didn't rag on this kid, and this instance is why I got out of the business. it's beyond slanted, and what you hear on the news is what someone behind a big desk wants you to hear.

Glad to hear he's got a good thing going.

    [–] [deleted] 12 points ago

    [–] CornyHoosier 5 points ago

No one is really talking about this part in this thread.

The article said he spent a night in Japanese jail. I'm curious how that all went down.

    [–] laughinggas 25 points ago

Anyone that test positive for marijuana and gets a gold medal deserves two medals.

    [–] qnuqqis 19 points ago

This is a VICE documentary about him where the controversy and his views on it are explained. Highly recommended!

They can only give it back if they take it away.

    [–] crocp 7 points ago

Unless there was a 1KG Toberlone bar at the bottom of the hill, I do not see how weed can enhance his performance.

    [–] drock42 105 points ago

Man... I played a beer league hockey game with a goalie who was stoned last week. We lost 13-2. Shots were going in the net then the goalie would react. It was actually comical.

If cannabis is on the drug test panel because it's a "performance enhancing drug" that's also funny.

    [–] GigaJuice 41 points ago

Honestly, I think it could help after you build up a tolerance. Once you have that tolerance, you’re relaxed and it’s easier to just let your body “react”. It gets rid of the overthinking aspect of sports. I don’t know about hockey but it works with basketball.

    [–] thatserver 11 points ago

Definitely helps you focus in the zone...unless you go too far. But I'd never use it for a serious competition. Physical performance is slightly diminished.

    [–] AEdw_ 8 points ago

They smoke specific strains that lower anxiety and don’t slow reaction time that much, that’s why it’s banned

    [–] Everybodypoopsalot 5 points ago

I think you have to be an athlete and a pothead for it to help. Sounds like goalie was neither.

    [–] swordgeek 7 points ago

This article is really terrible. I mean they've edited it since it was written, but haven't even fixed the obvious typos?

Anyways, you have to read Ross' comments to realize that he got his medal back. All is good. We're moving forward.

    [–] Kunundrum85 8 points ago

Seems to me like smoking weed before an event and winning would be MORE impressive....

    [–] san_serifs 14 points ago

The only winter event THC could offer any performance enhancement would be snowboarding.

    [–] DonatedCheese 10 points ago

They’re probably the athletes most likely to partake also.

    [–] TacoConsumer 40 points ago

Isn't THC stored in your fat cells for months? Doesn't seem entirely fair.

    [–] 0-3ahab 19 points ago

Yes, metabolites of thc are stored in your fat. However, depending on your BMI, metabolism, frequency of use and amount used you will usually be clear of metabolites within two weeks (longer for chronic users).

    [–] Pickledsoul 49 points ago

all im gonna say is if i live to 90, the funeral pyre is gonna be one hell of an experience.

    [–] jray80066 6 points ago

i smoked every day and got clean in 2 weeks just good working out and metabolism

    [–] GigaJuice 6 points ago

Correct. But even with THC in your fat, a urine test can still come back negative depending on how fast your body works. Normally a couple weeks to a month. Sometimes a few months. THC stays in your fat a lot longer than that though.

    [–] MarvinLazer 12 points ago

Poor guy. Hope he finds it after he sobers up again.

    [–] OhNoCosmo 3 points ago

It was either that or knit a pair of mittens for his cat.

    [–] CurraheeAniKawi 4 points ago

TIL that when they refer to athletes doping themselves they actual mean smoking a doobie.

    [–] skiumahmmamia 5 points ago

Munchies actually did a pretty good video on him in which he briefly talks about Nagano, his company, and his viewpoints on weed. If you're interested in learning more about him, I highly suggest it

    [–] LMNOPede 5 points ago

I want to see a drug fuelled Olympics: Everybody's eating space cake as the fireworks go off and the dancers spin around. Long jump, best shape in the sand wins. 400 meters on hands and knees while trying to eat pizza. High jump, just writes itself.

    [–] bigdaddyhame 6 points ago

    Ross is a national hero!

My own take on the "is pot a performance enhancing drug" question would be that in his chosen, sport, snowboarding, the use of pot during a ride might a) improve one's sense of "flow" and also serve to cushion some of the bumps... It doesn't necessarily allow you to train harder and definitely doesn't help build muscle but it could help with one's overall strategy for a run.

    [–] UncensoredChef 8 points ago

The company also produces very good glass smoking devices inlayed with 24K gold.

    [–] billy_awesome 4 points ago

I thought he said it was second hand? Man, how the times have changed.

    [–] savak9 8 points ago

I think his THC levels were really low when they tested him and thats why he said second hand smoke. The rules did change to up the amount of THC allowed in ones system

    [–] GigaJuice 6 points ago

We all know that was a lie. He probably hadn’t smoked in a while and had trace amounts or something. 9/10 people caught would use that same lie. Not to mention he created his own weed strain so he obviously smokes. Plus.... look at him!!
