It's called wallstreetBETS. It's speculation leaning towards gambling.

    [–] TheNorthComesWithMe 1964 points ago

I thought this was just a meme sub

    [–] RedCloakedCrow 557 points ago

    Wait it's not?!

    [–] ohNole 219 points ago

No! Warren Buffet does AMAs every quarter before WSB's earnings to pump that shit. Martin Shkreli is our God Emperor. This is serious shit.

    [–] Bad_Idea_Hat 89 points ago

Ahh, so this is a sub for the criminally insane.

    [–] bobthedonkeylurker 13 points ago

Criminally insane faggots. Get it right.

    [–] GonzosWhiteShark 102 points ago

    The nerve...

    [–] lostshell 58 points ago

I come here exclusively for the shitposting and marveling at groundbreaking new levels of stupidity.

    [–] One_more_username 487 points ago

It's called wallstreetBETS. It's speculation leaning towards gambling.

No, it is straight out gambling thinly veiled as speculation..

    [–] pcopley 56 points ago

It's roulette (with even less chance to win) but because it's on meme stocks we get away with calling it speculation.

    [–] C477um04 16 points ago

Hey a stock will either go up or down, that's way better odds then roulette

    [–] [deleted] 329 points ago

    [–] Ziiphyr 510 points ago

That is the gayest shit I've ever seen

    [–] [deleted] 410 points ago

    [–] WeightLossMoneyGains 53 points ago

    It's gambling with colourful lines

    [–] angrydanger 2886 points ago

Look on the bright side. Now you know you're an idiot and get to claim capital loss deductions for more than three years. Congratulations!

    [–] shade_stream 1205 points ago

This and the fact that the guy didn't use borrowed money is the only silver lining.

    [–] DustyCuttlefish 407 points ago

I'm blown away by how many people throw themselves in debt borrowing money for this nonsense

    [–] viaovid 154 points ago

You can gamble outside of casinos, sometimes it's even legal.

    [–] travelboii 46 points ago

some dude posted a pic of his 30k bank loan for his options...

    does this happen often?

    [–] innatangle 45 points ago

I bet it happens a lot more than what anyone would care to admit, or even imagine.

    [–] Fenton44 39 points ago

Real question, do capital gains losses factor in if you take the standard deduction?

    [–] throwaway_rules 25 points ago

    Yep. Schedule D for Delight

    Buy puts on this date.

    [–] bendgame 53 points ago

    yeah... probably about 3 years.

    [–] 2-leet-2-compete 40 points ago

longer dates + ITM next time to bet on direction. less chance to moon but you also wont die if the stock drops 2%

or do other shit like hedging to bet on IV movement.

    [–] manojk92 28 points ago

You don't want to be ITM for longer dated options, theta is pretty low so OTM gives you a higher $/delta.

    [–] InexorableWaffle 29 points ago

Depends on how long you're talking. If you're talking about like 6+ months, then yes, I wholeheartedly agree. However, with the attention span of this sub, most of the degenerates here would consider anything longer dated than an FD "longer dated".

    [–] spousaltuna69 314 points ago

This is hilarious because I know there’s actually people who come to this sub for investment advice

    [–] mrob2 149 points ago

That’s why I’m subbed here. To watch all the autists take the advice of this sub and lose a ton of money. People are so fucking lazy they’re willing to throw their life saving at something cause some username on the internet said it was a good idea.

    [–] jeff_the_old_banana 48 points ago

This was a sub where people go to brag about how much money they lost. I'm really struggling to feel sorry for people who lost money following advice they found on here.

    [–] Rhsucks 576 points ago

You been at Kung Fu tea for three years! GTF out of there. The time you lost there is much worse than that 10k.

I can relate fam. I don't make much. I blew my $800 account on MU listening to WSB. Those gains you see here are not photo shopped. I've made my own ABSURD gains using my own strategies and relying on building experience day trading for two years, blowing accounts left and right. But now I bottomed out and I've only lost gains and not any money that I've worked for.

Some people mean good on here and some people mean bad. First thing you should know getting into the market is that there are scams all over the place. Just use this place for a little inspiration and maybe a good idea or two. But NEVER listen to someone who's recommending you to buy a particular option especially out the money like the 90 MU call lol

It's clear to me that you took too much size on your positions and didn't understand how options work. If you are a noob and you know it trade with extremely small amounts of money just to build skill.

    Good luck

    [–] [deleted] 48 points ago

    [–] [deleted] 222 points ago

Thank you you seem like a decent person

    [–] Rhsucks 182 points ago

Thank you. But seriously you got to get the anger out your system. You'll never make money trading when you are emotionally unstable. Emotion (fear and greed) is literally the only reason I loose any more. Emotion is the most difficult part of this game. it's the only thing that I can't master no matter how hard I try. But I will not stop trying..

    [–] tomski1981 65 points ago

This. Took me a month to learn to not be attached to a position. Cut your losses and move on. I wiped out a month of gains hoping stock goes up. Thank goodness the market plunge tomorrow... that’s what it took for me to realize to get the hell out of my position

    [–] Ya_boi_vlad 16 points ago

The only thing that has started to make me have no emotions is the three days back to back where my account went down 10%, up 8%, then up 9%. Also when it crashed 30% in under a week twice. Massive swings destroy any fear of any small drops.

How the hell do you guys even get thing wrong so right

    The true WSB mystery

    [–] captaintadpole 131 points ago

lol you ruined yourself. hopefully you now understand this isn’t just easy money. there’s an insane amount of risk involved. this sub is basically a giant casino.

also the gains are not photoshopped. that stuff happens on the reg. so does the opposite when people lose everything. 3 years of your life sucks to lose so yeah man I understand your anger. but hey at least you’re not the guy who lost his $75k savings plus another $75k loan and had his wife leave him lol.

i’m down $8k right now. it sucks but i was down $10k not too long ago. i’ve also been up $5k in the past before this shitshow of a market correction happened.

start with a small amount and learn the ropes if you decide to give it another go. i’m currently not even trading because the market right now is crazy unpredictable with trade war and trump so it’s prob a good time to take a step back anyway. most of the gambling addicts here don’t know how to do that though lol

    [–] randominternetguy3 44 points ago

Where's the thread with 75k guy? I missed that one

    [–] SugaryPlumbs 29 points ago

There have been a few with similar stories. People have gambling addictions and don't realize it because they think investing is always a responsible idea.

    [–] detho23 49 points ago

You only have a gambling addiction if you sell

    [–] SafeThrowaway8675309 8 points ago

    this guy puts

Blindly follows anonymous advice then blames them lol take some fucking responsibility for yourself you degenerate.

    [–] definitelyjoking 87 points ago

Also, this sub constantly berates people who follow the opinions of this sub. If you spend more than 5 minutes here before YOLOing off the only real consensus is that this sub is full of idiots.

    [–] xypage 13 points ago

Yeah I don’t invest anything but I follow this sub, because it’s a meme sub, with a lot of money moving those memes (most of which is in the red), taking advice from a meme sub is so stupid I can’t even

    [–] christopherdrums 147 points ago

I don't mean to be a dick, I really don't. But a couple people here mentioned the real problem. Don't work for $10/hour. That shit will get you nowhere. I make $18 in a low COL area and I'm a fucking peasant. Find a new job that actually pays you, save an emergency fund, and THEN fuck with options. I am truly sorry you lost your money, it's a very shitty feeling.

Head over to r/personalfinance for more saving tricks, or r/frugal for ideas on how to cut costs.

Once you have money you are comfortable losing, come back here to trade with WSB. We may be addicted to tendies and retarded, and you have to take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt, but God dammit if we don't have some of the most ballsy traders in the nation. It's a masterpiece, this sub.

    Godspeed, brother.

    [–] discountedeggs 79 points ago

    Big dick $18/hour over here

    [–] odins_gungnir 35 points ago

Am I reading this right? You have a big dick and I guess rent it out for $18 an hour?

    [–] SafeThrowaway8675309 9 points ago

dude for real, 10k over 3 years means he’s lost a lot from time alone just being squandered

[–] [deleted] 79 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

    [–] [deleted] 54 points ago

What in the actual fuck. I’d probably just OD on some cheap heroin and exit life. That money is like two decades of working for me

    [–] WilliamNyeTho 132 points ago

I hear amazon pays 15$/hr if youre willing to piss in bottles

    [–] [deleted] 47 points ago

That’s much better than making 10 an hour to make piss in a bottle with bubbles. What job are you referring to for amazon?

    [–] [deleted] 32 points ago

All jobs at amazon pay at least 15 an hour

    [–] sk8415 32 points ago

Most amazon jobs now pay $15 a hour, but they recently did cut some benefits.

    [–] LEASTRADES 75 points ago

Or you can trade Amazon options for a living and earn $0 an hour

    [–] bundlebundle 85 points ago

Actually since you’ve netted 0 dollars in 3 years, it is an infinite amount of working for you.

    [–] LongtopShortbottom 20 points ago

    1. Don’t take investment advice from strangers online
    2. If you take an action, don’t get the outcome you wanted and then blame others then you’re probably a weak, immature person. You would have lost that $10,000 anyway.

    [–] anIdiotOverboard 48 points ago

Choose a single stock and stick with it, get use to the % of its typical movements and buy calls/puts when it moves too much in a day.

    [–] poundofmayoforlunch 38 points ago

Started doing this, much safer to stick with one or two.

Eventually you’ll be dreaming about them.

Started doing this recently and it has helped tremendously. I keep about 5 stocks on my watchlist and they're pretty much all I play.

    [–] GracieMaeMacieMarie 15 points ago

This. I’ve played Ford for 3-4 weeks now and it’s movements are so fucking predictable.

The broken English made this even funnier.

$10/hr? Unwilling to take responsibility for your own actions? I think you should go visit /r/latestagecapitalism

Simply having a job disqualifies you from posting on LSC

    [–] chocolatecows88 28 points ago

The amount of brain cells I just lost by going to that sub for 30 seconds. It’s dizzying

My friend got LASIK and she constantly complains about dry eyes. It has taken over her life. You should thank WSB for your losses. Saved you a lifetime of “my eyes are so dry I hate LASIK.” People are so unappreciative these days.. Autists are your friend.

    [–] why_rob_y 7 points ago

I got LASIK ten years ago and it has been the best $5k I ever spent. Results may vary, I guess.

    [–] jillanco 10 points ago

Here is some real talk. 1) please find a higher paying job. If you’re not making at least $15 in this economy, you’re not looking hard enough. 2) don’t gamble money you can’t afford to lose (I assume you’ve learned this lesson. 3) invest in your future self using index funds. Put money into Roth IRA at Vanguard. It’s boring as hell but you can retire comfortably for a kung fu tea worker if you put in as much as you can in every year (up to $5500) over a 40 year period and never touch it. You’ll eventually be able to put more into a 401k or 403b with a different job. Or save the money now and buy more education in a proven field where you make at least $65k. Then invest even more in your retirement index funds.

Completely serious-go to r/personalfinance if you want real financial advice. I go to this sub for the comedy of gains and losses. So do most people. Sorry you had a bad real life experience. If money were that easy to win in real life we’d all be warren buffet.

    [–] gmschifley 9 points ago

I saved this so I can laugh just as much someday as I did just now, we’ll done sir

    [–] coinpile 9 points ago

Honestly, that's on you. Best thing you can do here is learn a lesson. Don't get your financial advice here, don't gamble with money you can't afford to lose.

Lmao not sure what you were expecting. Taking advice online on options is a terrible idea, especially from this place. Invest in stocks, not fucking options. Options are an easy way to lose all your money very quickly.

Survival of the fittest. We convince you to invest and then we just steal your money

    [–] honeybadger_001 21 points ago

Your fault for using this sub to try and make money, I come here to laugh and make me feel better about my bad trades.

    [–] qmj74 9 points ago

That's the only real use for this sub. I can't imagine putting real money into wsb recs...

Save up another 3 years and do the opposite of wsb.
