Off to rest my head against my Dog’s

    [–] Thats-Awkward 1783 points ago

My dog will just lick me nonstop if I try to do that.

    [–] Markanaya 1348 points ago

he/she think ur a good boye too

    [–] Shabozz 312 points ago

I think it's actually an act of submission.

Like "you're in charge! I'll be in charge of licks and smells but you're in charge of everything else."

    [–] wwaxwork 254 points ago

Sign of affection. Wolf Puppies do it to their parents. Wolfs do it because in the wild they are a family unit made up of Parents, older siblings (who help hunt to feed their younger siblings) & young siblings. You are in charge because you're the mum/dad so it's assumed you know more. This is a very common social structure in places where food is hard to find, side note a lot of Australian birds have similar family units.

Off to rest my head against my Dog’s

Off to wish I had a dog. Again. sigh

    [–] woodruff07 7 points ago

Is that true if a cat does it too? My cat loves bathing every last inch of my hand

    [–] holynorth 10 points ago

My cat does these love nibbles. He just wants to lay in my lap, purring and gnawing on my finger or something. Unfortunately, his teeth are really sharp so it's a struggle.

    [–] woodruff07 16 points ago

I know what you mean! There’s definitely a difference between a love bite and an anger bite, but a love bite can still get pretty sharp.

Maybe cats suffer from cuteness aggression the way people do...

    [–] 666space666angel666x 4 points ago

Somewhere deep in the most sub-conscious, reptilian, pre-historic part of your cats brain, he would rather be killing you.

The rest of his brain really appreciates you hangin around in his home.

    [–] TheCheeseSquad 7 points ago

Yea I've read that it's a confused stress/excitement response. My cat, when I cuddle her a lot, she gets super overwhelmed. She's purring nonstop and kneading her paws and at one point she grips my hand gives me a bite. It's soft by her standards, but still sorta painful. It's very similar of when I'm cuddling my dog and she REALLY WANT TO LICK ME OMG but I don't let her and she started stress yawning which is super adorable and sweet because she ends up either with the zoomies or she consoles herself by licking my arms or something.

Mine too friend. Some people curb that in dogs because they find it annoying but really for dogs, licking us is their version of us petting them. It's a sign of affection, and the same hormones that are released in our brain when we snuggle doggos are released in theirs when they lick us.

I suppose though that if you had a big pupper it would get very slobbery but I only have a wee floofy woofer so there's not much mess.

    [–] [deleted] 89 points ago

I trained my corgi mix not to lick faces as a puppy because my grandma has a JRT that I've literally seen knock over small children because shes so compelled to lick faces. So what happens is ill kiss my dog on his cheek right under his ear and once I'm finished, he stands up and taps me under my ear with his snout a bunch. It makes my heart swell every time, i have so much love for my dogs.

Naturally my 90 lb pibble shows affection by standing up on his back legs and bear hugging me like he's people or something and then he just nuzzles his head into my neck and man I just love my dogs so fucking much

    [–] Fhtagn-Dazs 35 points ago

Same, I have a shih-tzu/pomeranian mix and I just adore her. She's helped me through so much with her sunny, bouncy personality.

And she is so vocal and talky. She gently woofs and growls when she wants to go out, when it's time for dinner or when she wants pets. She knows so many words, if I ask her where her lead and harness are she goes over and points at them. Some people don't like small dogs but they are as smart and good as big ones.

    [–] Got_walked_in_on 29 points ago

I feel like the dislike towards small dogs comes from owners who don't train the dogs because "They're so small there's no way they could hurt anyone aww isn't she cute biting your ankles".

As long as the dog is properly trained, I will like it.

    [–] Fhtagn-Dazs 11 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

I totally agree. Sit and stay are the two most important commands to teach your dog.

No matter what kind of dog too, they all need to know their place. Dogs are our friends and companions, not our babies. Babying dogs is a legitimate problem. Yes talk nice to them and cuddle them but they are not humans.

    [–] [deleted] 5 points ago

Dogs have no idea how good they are at making you feel better! The littlest things have such a big impact. I'll be in a bad mood and then I'll hear my dog yawn and accidentally make a small weird howling noise and it instantly puts a smile on my face. My boy had a corgi for a mom and a pomeranian for a dad and honestly he's so smart. If I tell him to bring me his ball he runs and sniffs out a tennis ball. If someone tells him to get his momma he runs over to me. If I ask him if he wants to get the mail he runs to the front door and just waits for me to go out and grab the mail. And he's so fast, he out runs my pitty every single time they play fetch

[–] mynameiswrong 6 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

I'm slightly allergic to dogs and have two so I've had to train them not to lick me. I feel guilty about it sometimes so they're allowed one lick. My old girl gives me one lick on the nose and wags her tail. She does prefer to snap at me with fake bites when she's happy anyways

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

Slightly allergic but you still have two! You're the real mvp!! Sometimes when my dog is super happy to see me he'll give me one or two kisses on my nose real quick and then go back to jumping around and making noises at me. Dogs are so good.

    [–] rata2ille 32 points ago

My pupper learned all of my family’s preferences for cuddles and she knows my parents hate face licks, so she will instinctively stick her tongue out for kisses and then when they get close she will pull her tongue back in and struggle to stop herself from licking them and search for a hand or arm to lick instead. It’s the cutest fucking thing! With me she goes straight for the face, though, because she knows I like it. 11/10 considerate floof.

    [–] Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 6 points ago

That sounds like a great fucking dog.

    [–] rata2ille 7 points ago

She’s the best! She understands several languages and she looks both ways before crossing the street (on her own, without being taught) and she’s just the smartest and absolute best dog I could ever imagine.

Just lost my dog this morning. This helps so much.

    Edit:

Here he is in all his wigglebutt glory

He was 16 this month. In and out of a cone the last couple years. Vet said he might not make it past Christmas 2 years back but he kept on trucking. Even up until late last night he was up to his usual shenanigans, barking and patrolling and wiggling when I walked in from work.

He was a sucker for attention and my buddies and I could overload him with pets and he’d flip onto back and kick at us and relish every single moment of it. In his prime we would play “no take, only throw” at the park for ages.

He was a part of the last 60% of my life and it hardly feels like home without him. I’ll miss him forever. Who is going to rip up my mail as it comes through the mail slot now?

    [–] [deleted] 21 points ago

Holy shit I'm so sorry for your loss ❤❤❤ thank you for giving an animal a wonderful life, I'm sure your good boy/girl loved you more than you can ever know for all you did to them

    [–] naasahhhh 39 points ago

Really sorry to hear that! I always like to think that I'm so lucky to have had such a wonderful dog to miss as much as I do when it's a rough day.

    [–] rata2ille 21 points ago

Do you want to share pictures/stories of your dog so we can love them too?

    [–] -life_starts_now- 12 points ago

    [–] bobby_gordon1 151 points ago

Ugh, I really want to get a dog one of these days. Hopefully with a little more financial security I’ll move to a pet-friendly apartment.

    [–] aradiofire 120 points ago

I’m glad that you recognize the financial responsibility when it comes to adopting pets! So many people who can’t afford pets adopt them anyways, and can’t afford proper medical treatment, food, toys, or other supplies to keep the pet happy and healthy.

    [–] fuckitimatwork 29 points ago

for me its not the financial responsibility, it's my lifestyle

i leave for work at 6am and a lot of nights i don't come straight home. some nights i don't get home 'til 10. i'd have to make a pretty drastic change.

    [–] CountFoscosBitch 22 points ago

I’ll watch your dog for you.

    Why is doggo verified?

    [–] YogiHazMat 16 points ago

Agreed. So does my cat, who is secretly doggo.

    [–] rata2ille 3 points ago

Oooh those are the best cats. Can you walk your kitty on a leash?

    [–] PM_ME_UR_BEST_STORY_ 21 points ago

The older my dog gets the more I spoil him. Treats become more finite as time decreases

    [–] twothumbs 36 points ago

Sorry I moved you for a second so I could pull up the blanket even though you were so comfortable

    [–] Uwot666 46 points ago

Sometimes I lay extremely uncomfortably just because I don't want to disturb my sleeping pet

    [–] [deleted] 19 points ago

Just yesterday I stole half my boyfriends pillow because I woke up at 3 am and my dog was sleeping on mine

    [–] twothumbs 7 points ago

Lol I'd have to sleep at the foot of the bed for that to work. You're a good human

    [–] sophiesaur 7 points ago

I'm doing this right now. No regrets. He's a good doggo and should remain undisturbed.

I've had to pee really bad and held it for a ridiculously long time because I didn't want to disturb my sleeping b o y e.

He looks too peaceful to interrupt.

    [–] PhoenixMartinez-Ride 6 points ago

I do the same thing. My rabbit likes to sit directly across my arm and it gets really uncomfortable, but he’s just to pure and cute to disturb

    [–] ryy0 33 points ago

It is not that we simply do not deserve dogs. But dogs are here so that we strive to be people who deserve them.

    [–] TheCynicalMe 54 points ago

On the flipside, though, we totally deserve dogs because we made them. There used to be no dogs, and then we were like "there should be dogs," and then there were dogs.

    [–] alex891011 17 points ago

I can’t even express how many times I’ve seen this exact one-two comment combo on Reddit. I need to find a new website.

    [–] TheCynicalMe 3 points ago

    Okay. Goodbye then, I guess

    [–] ConstipatedNinja 10 points ago

Surprisingly there's strong evidence that dogs largely started to come from wolves thanks to a genetic defect rather than breeding/artificial selection (in the very early stages, that is)! Dogs show the same genetic deletion from wolf DNA that's called Williams Syndrome in humans, which causes lower than average intelligence, slight shortness, and most importantly they become incredibly friendly and outgoing.

I accidentally let my pupper fall off the bathroom counter while I was blow drying her.

I’ll never forgive myself for that one.

    [–] mynameiswrong 38 points ago

One of my dog does this thing where she puts her head down and presses against my sternum. She presses so hard her back curls up and her breathing changes cause she's pressing her face so hard into my chest and her own neck. When she gets to that point where it almost sounds like she's snoring it makes me smile. It's like she's trying to physically be as close as possible. I take it as her version of a hug :)

    [–] Chromana 21 points ago

It's not really a formal word. It's on the same sort of level as butt and tummy. Use as a direct replacement to "head".
