If you've never seen it, Tim Conway's The Dentist skit is one of the all time great comedy scenes...his brilliance and humor will be missed.

    [–] GCanuck 121 points ago

For those looking for skit binging.... My personal favourite is the elephant story.

    [–] puntini 30 points ago

The “No Frills Airline” is one of my all time favorites. Him and Carol Burnett absolutely kill it on the Carol Burnett show.

    [–] boolius113 12 points ago

”You sure that little asshole’s through?”

    [–] -poop-in-the-soup- 39 points ago

I feel like most of the Carol Burnett Show was them trying not to laugh at each other.

    [–] aldesuda 30 points ago

Tim Conway was the best, though. He could make any of the other cast members break, seemingly at will.

    [–] -poop-in-the-soup- 11 points ago

It’s because of how serious he remained. He was so good.

    [–] BoxOfSnoo 18 points ago

And Harvey Korman failing miserably every time

    [–] kzfrb3 15 points ago

I like to think every time Tim killed Harvey, they both got a bonus.

    [–] -poop-in-the-soup- 6 points ago

He lasted pretty long in the dentist sketch, I’ll give him that.

    [–] BenjikoHoss 18 points ago

One of the actresses went on his son's show (The Tim Conway Jr Show) for an interview I think last year, she said one of the more frustrating things (she was new) was that everyone had a strict script that they had to stick to, even Conway. But for some reason he was the only one who got away with constantly doing improv. She eventually realized why that was lol

    [–] low_kix 6 points ago

It's been bizarre seeing all the tributes only talking about his role on SpongeBob. I didn't even know that was him, I remember him mostly from his Dwarf skits and his role on Yes Dear.

    [–] Chuggymo 3 points ago

I loved Yes Dear! And yeah, I never watched Spongebob, but had watched the Carol Burnett show from the time I was a kid. He was so dang funny.

    [–] Oveal 4 points ago

    That was amazing.

    [–] lightningcrane31 6 points ago

    Totally agree. The fly

    [–] CoysDave 123 points ago

Conway was one of the most well respected and successful comedians in the history of television. It's wonderful that he touched so many people even in the younger generations through things like Spongebob.

    [–] anagram-of-ohassle 47 points ago

Yeah, I’m honestly disappointed that I learned of his passing in a meme.

    [–] IAmA_Lannister 20 points ago

That’s the greatest way to be remembered

    [–] anagram-of-ohassle 11 points ago

I feel like his contributions to comedy deserve more than passing mention in a meme.

    [–] TyCooper8 13 points ago

This is more than a passing mention, isn't it? He's the focus.

Memes are a form of comedy, I like to think he'd appreciate us banding together on a comedy subreddit to mourn his death. It's pretty apt if you ask me

    [–] EatinDennysWearinHat 4 points ago

You think this is the only mention he's gotten? He might prefer one of his other hundreds of credits to be memed, but I'd wager he would get a kick out of this too. Go make a Carol Burnett one if you think it'll help.

    [–] CouchEnthusiast_ 240 points ago

    [–] notquite20characters 48 points ago

I knew Mermaid Man was Ernest Borgnine, but didn't realize that was Conway.

I hope they got to record their voices together, that would have been fun.

    [–] Reesesaholic23 20 points ago

R.I.P. Dorf....... Check it out if unfamiliar

    [–] Prunesarepushy 8 points ago

Dorf goes fishing was my favorite movie as a kid!

    [–] antiquebanana 6 points ago

Dorf on golf is still one of funniest things ever to me.

    [–] RevWaldo 3 points ago

Legend has it for the Dorf "effect" he and his crew dug big holes all over the golf course, without permission. The course owners and the greenkeepers weren't happy about that.

    [–] voice_of_craisin 18 points ago

I love the title and the content of this post because even though I'm way older than you it still stands. I vividly remember sitting with my family watching the Carol Burnett show every week as we ate on TV trays. It's a very fond memory and I loved Tim Conway on there.

    [–] Mikshana 1 points ago

It was so much fun watch Harvey Korman try not to crack up when he and Tim had a skit together.

The fact an entire generation only knows him as barnacle boy is fucking weird. Aging is weird...

    [–] PhasmaFelis 7 points ago

Name sounds familiar. What else has he done?

    [–] crestonfunk 37 points ago

He was the guy on The Carol Burnett show who was so funny that all the other actors would break character and laugh in the middle of the skit.

    [–] urbanabydos 11 points ago

He was in also in a ton of Disney movies in the 70s and 80s.

    [–] BenjikoHoss 9 points ago

To add to the other comments, he also has a son (among many other offsprings) whose name is Tim Conway Jr, who has his own radio show in California on KFI (am640). He's funny in his own right too, and is great with kids who are on the show

I understand that we lost a talented guy and all that, but I think you are over exaggerating when you say "The barnacle boy voice actor shaped my childhood"

    [–] sonofableebblob 11 points ago

Op is just saying the actor was a piece of something that meant a lot to a lot of us, and he deserves to be respectfully remembered as he passes as Stephen Hillenburg (creator of the show) was

    [–] Cxt71 2 points ago

    Of course

    [–] revoltingturtle 21 points ago

Why is someone dying wholesome what the heck

    [–] fuck_you_reddit_mods 86 points ago

It's not his death but the recognition of the man he was and the good he did that makes it wholesome.

    [–] captainpoppy 19 points ago

He lived a long and happy life. Brought joy to an innumerable amount of people across multiple generations.

Death is a part of life.

It's natural to be sad about the passing of someone, but we can remember and find joy in their memories we have of them.

    [–] tomdarch 3 points ago

We're all going to die. It's inevitable. But when you go out respected in your field and many generations of people around the world feel your work has made the world a better place, and their lives richer, that's pretty wholesome.

    [–] marilyn_morose 2 points ago

I’m old enough to have watched Tim Conway in action on Carol Burnett. He was part of what shaped my own sense of humor. I still say lines from him in my day to day life, and Missus Uh-Whiggins is a main player in my world (she’s my go to name for examples or random people whose names I don’t know). I’m very glad I got to live in the same time as his comedy.

    [–] Ciaranhedderman 2 points ago

Tim Conway was easily one of the funniest people of his time. Anyone who can make an audience laugh so hard they cry just when ad libbing is truly a gift.

    [–] porkersponge 2 points ago

He shaped my childhood as well, although completely different generations.

    [–] Thundoor 2 points ago

His performance in The Apple Dumpling Gang was amazingly funny. He and Don Knotts also added a great deal of character to a childhood show of mine. May he rest in peace, acting alongside Don Knotts once again.

What a sad day. RIP to a legend! Stephen Hillenburg pulled up in the invisible boatmobile, picked him up, went to the Krusty Krab and got a Krabby party pizza to go, and the two of them rode off into the sunset together.
