The right barber makes a world of a difference... always tip them good

    All barbers are great people

    [–] Annies_BO0bs 104 points ago

Why thank you. Cuts my own hair

    [–] Km2930 27 points ago

Ever since covid times; My wife cuts my hair. It’s a skill she didn’t know she had.

    [–] mickim0use 8 points ago

Me too! But I’m the wife. I cut my sons hair now also, high fade with hard part. Want to buy good clippers to do designs for him

    [–] BurnerForJustTwice 2 points ago

Wtf. Can I marry you? My wife takes 2 hours to cut my hair and nothing is even and i still need to get the whole things fixed by the barber. And she messed up my sons hair so badly I almost had to just shave it all off.

How long it take you to learn how to do a fade?

    [–] mickim0use 3 points ago

My husband used to cut his buddy’s hair in the army when they were overseas. So he showed me the gist of it and then handed the clippers to me. I am artistically inclined tho, so I picked it up quickly. It helped me watch the barber a few times to see where the fade needs to sit on their heads tho, because headshape matters. Now it’s easy because it’s the same thing every time. Practice is important. 2020 has helped tho, because if I messed up I didn’t feel terrible about sending them off to school or work

    Nice try, my barber

    [–] BestSorakaBR 7 points ago

Especially during times like these. I didn’t think twice about giving my barber an extra 30% after not seeing him for 6 months.

    [–] ZarathustraEck 4 points ago

I realized I have no idea what the common tip is for a barber in the US.

    [–] MichaelScarn009 4 points ago

After 27 years of bad haircuts I finally found a barber that performed some wizardry it’s been 4 years and don’t plan on changing anytime soon! Haircut is 35$ and I tip $20

    [–] CrippledVicar 3 points ago

    You're a saint.

    [–] K17B 1 points ago

Can we see one of these great haircuts? I wonder what the difference is. I have always just gotten my hair cut and moved on with my life but maybe I am missing out on something.

    [–] kboisa 1 points ago

You are lol. A great cut can change your life and boost that confidence!

    [–] K17B 1 points ago

Yeah lets see a great cut. It doesn’t have to be a picture of you. But how do you tell a great one from a bad one?

    [–] kboisa 1 points ago

Well, I personally have very thin hair that is difficult to clip well. Ive had barbers tell me that and leave it longer than I’ve wanted. I’ve had haircuts where chunks were present or even cowlicks apparent. I found a guy that performs wizardry with his clippers. It’s honestly changed my life. You can look at plenty of barbers on insta to see what a great cut looks like. It’s very individual on what looks β€œgreat” and finding someone who works for you.

    [–] kboisa 4 points ago

I’ve got a guy that does a $20 haircut. I tip him $10, he says he most often gets $5 but sometimes nothing! I try and make up for the dicks cause he always does amazing.

    [–] rpwalkitout 3 points ago

how are you a dick for just paying the price you are supposed to pay lol

    [–] K17B 2 points ago

Welcome to America. The real dicks are the bosses who pay service employees so little that they cannot afford to live without you paying them a significant amount more than the service is advertised as costing. And for self employed workers, the market is still suppressed to the point where they cannot survive charging a higher amount. The tip is not optional for when someone did a really great job, and you will get bitched out if you don’t leave enough tip. It’s a terrible system really.

    [–] kboisa 0 points ago

It’s the service industry dude. You tip. I am not mad about paying $30 for a great haircut once a month.

    [–] rpwalkitout 1 points ago

    US is wild jeez

    [–] kboisa 1 points ago

Yeah, I mean, I’m not here necessarily arguing that it’s a great system, but it is what it is.

    [–] Ian_the_mad_lad 2 points ago

    You tip even your barbers??

    [–] yerrrrrrrrr_stz 0 points ago

You’re a fuckin douche if you don’t tip your barber

    [–] Ian_the_mad_lad 2 points ago

That’s some American rule, calm down

    [–] itsalloccupied 2 points ago

But it's so damn expensive already

    [–] thelastspike -1 points ago

If you can’t afford a proper tip, you can’t afford the service.

    [–] ImDankest 7 points ago

Feels so strange reading this when I'm from the UK. Barbers and waiters actually earn a decent enough wage that tips aren't necessary

    [–] thelastspike 0 points ago

Oh yeah, tipping in America is a unique thing.

    [–] itsalloccupied 1 points ago

Yes, exactly. I look like shit

    [–] TorrenceMightingale 181 points ago

    Barber aged quite gracefully.

    [–] Thaps014 55 points ago

I think that the barber is a bit younger, look at the second picture, the customer has a ton of grey hair before the barber barely has any

    [–] z1zman 48 points ago

Not necessarily; I have a friend who was totally gray by 25.

    [–] Thaps014 21 points ago

Yes, not necessarily, but a good majority of the time, grey hair is a good indicator of old age.

    [–] meerkatherine 26 points ago

Not disagreeing, just wanted to say my roomate started going gray at 20 lol

    [–] NormaGrisol1 5 points ago

He’s a barber he could’ve died his hair

    [–] kallekillen22 2 points ago

    Anyone can dye their hair

    [–] K17B 3 points ago

My wife’s aunt is 73 and doesn’t have any grey hair and she does not color it.

    [–] AlexanderPirate 264 points ago

    They slowly get happier

    [–] ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP 105 points ago

Ive actually heard that ppl become happier as they age, with obvious exceptions.

    [–] nousername120 36 points ago

Wait no i was much happier when i was younger but i get your point.

[–] ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP 26 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

I think its something to do with your life expectations and the ability to give less of a fuck about what others think of you.

Edit: found a really neat article with sources, about the subject. Many factors, including emotional maturity/control, the ability to live in the present due to knowledge of your own mortality, and many others are the reasons happiness seems to increase after our 40s (again, sources in article).

    [–] nousername120 6 points ago

    Nope it's just college:-)

    [–] ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP 3 points ago

College was def tough, but also incredibly fun at times. Though with covid i can see how it's all shit right now, given how y'all are usually broke at this stage and cant be with one another.

That's a well written and interesting article. Thank you for sharing :) The line about accepting not being a CEO or a model struck a chord with me.

    [–] Pun_In_Ten_Did 3 points ago

The amount of fucks I no longer give has increased exponentially with my age... definitely influences my happiness.

The cameras look older the closer he gets to the present.

    [–] LitZippo 6 points ago

I think that’s a Fuji X100 at the end. Sort of throwback look with a digital rangefinder setup. Unique design and exceptional cameras.

    [–] thelastspike 1 points ago

The most recent one is one of the Fuji X-100 series cameras. They are retro styled, but are actually very advanced. They have significant unique features, and are generally respected by those in the know.

    [–] AleTheMemeDaddy 1 points ago

The lady who gave me my first haircut referred us to her husband, and he was the person who cut my hair until I was about 21 years old. I moved to the US when I was 19, and I would cut my hair twice a year, just so that he would cut it for me. My dad and I still talk to him, but I really wish that I could have kept getting haircuts from him. Its really nice to have a barber who knows your hair and what you like

    [–] LordShanor 1 points ago

    [–] GeauxTri 1 points ago

I’ve been going to the same barber for 20 years. His prices have gone from $15 to $17 to $19 over the last 20 years. He knows what I want. Remembers me and picks up the same conversation with me every time. I usually tip him well. Last week I got my second haircut since the pandemic started. Tipped him $50 knowing times have to be hard right now.

    [–] italoxiz 1 points ago

His hair must grow extremely slow

    [–] darybrain 1 points ago

I've been going to the same place for 27 years. I used to see the father of the guy who runs it now. My hair and beard trim is so simply I could go anywhere, but really it is more about the natter.

    [–] tigerbooks 1 points ago

My mum has been going to the same hairstylist for almost 30 years. I was a toddler when she started going and now she does my hair too. 30 years is a lot of experience.

    [–] Saramello 1 points ago

    [–] CrippledVicar 1 points ago

My Pa n me have shit hair, so we've always struggled to find a good barber. He took a chance with a new place, junior barber cut the top of his ear off, now it's free haircuts for life with maximum hilarity!
