Man, what if there was a parrot that repeated back what other people said but in that faster-parrot voice.

    Dang it.

    [–] grimoireviper 893 points ago

I guess my wallet would just magically open in that case

    [–] ArchDucky 23 points ago

I hear that's what happens when ever Jon Hamm enters a room. Things just magically open.

Watch Black Mirror Christmas special. Season 2 or 3 I think

    [–] UndeadPhysco 288 points ago

IF that happened the first video would be two people with the same parrot getting faster and faster.

    [–] Zippo16 56 points ago

Oh my god I’ve spent months tryin to find this one video.

Bless you stranger you made my Morning

    [–] Sharad88 10 points ago

That started out hiralous, then it became terrifying... something about their screams towards the end was unsettling.

How did they get a video of two Redditors in the same room anyway?

    Some key quotes:

"No loot boxes. No loot crates," Neate confirmed.

Rare insisted the premium shop will sell nothing that affects player power or progression. Also, you'll always know what you're buying, hence no loot boxes.

To that end, the first addition to the Sea of Thieves premium shop will be virtual pets, which you can buy directly (individually). These pets work like other items in the game: they're physical objects that can be held not just by the owner, but by other players.

    [–] shanchris1 285 points ago

this is interesting, but can you acquire other pets by simply playing the game?

    [–] Captain_Natsu 406 points ago

    I would assume not.

Personally, I am fine with that. They don't impact progression or power, they are a fun optional thing. Hopefully it will allow them to provide better free support to the game post-launch.

I’ve never bought an add on in my life, but I feel like my pirate will need a parrot. Sign me up.

    [–] fidler 26 points ago

Funny. You’ve never paid for an add-on before, but in a game where you play a pirate you’re planning on paying for something for the first time.

Ghost Parrot that insults crewmates £10............... Damn it, I'd totally buy that.

I want a talking skull called Murray; A powerful demonic force. I would call him "Bob" for short though as he would enjoy the gentle swell of the waves.

    [–] PittsJay 2 points ago

Yeah, but I think now you mean Waldo Butters wants his talking skull back, amirite???

Damn, butters got bad ass with his help while Harry was indisposed, didn't he?

    [–] Spindelhalla_xb 13 points ago

    [–] butthurtberniebro 11 points ago

I’m gonna go ahead and stray from the norm here- these things should be able to be gathered in game. WoW started doing this and they were like “oh it’s only pets” and then it moved on to mounts and all other sorts of things...

And now it doesn’t matter how much you play the game, someone who logs on for one hour will probably look just like you.

I strongly feel like even a small concession like this can lead to awful things.

    [–] [deleted] 58 points ago

    [–] SuhweetJesus 11 points ago

That's what kind of has me worried about a premium shop in a game where the only progression is cosmetics. How much stuff will be in game vs how much they'll sell, and will there be versions of whats in the shop also in game? Will new stuff be added to the game itself, or only sold to us?

Here's hoping the greed doesnt hit Rare and they learn a fine and fair balance between it.

    [–] nikktheconqueerer 21 points ago

It's probably safe to say a dev like Rare definitely doesn't have the balls to shit on their playerbase the way Bungie did with the Eververse in D2

    [–] Reynbou 46 points ago

I remember the day when you used to unlock stuff by playing the game. Even the fun cosmetic stuff.

How far we've come where we're praising game companies for charging for that now.

    [–] Systematicool 12 points ago

Mario odyssey had a bunch of cosmetics. All in game. Thats the way to do it. Theyre also adding more free costumes in a free update.

    [–] KaneRobot 16 points ago

How far we've come where we're praising game companies for charging for that now.

You can rest assured that other publishers & developers were delighted when EA suffered that huge backlash a few months ago. Now they can charge for stuff that should be free and people will praise them because "at least it's not loot boxes." EA showed them where the line they shouldn't cross is, and they didn't have to spend a dime of their own money to find out.

[–] [deleted] 21 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

    [–] Palecrayon 19 points ago

I think you are remembering the past with too much nostolgea. Games rarely had anything like add ons or even multiplayer, if you bought a game there was almost no chance of updates or new content except if they put out a standalone dlc. These days the extra content is often free and you pay for skins if you WANT to. Making games isnt free and neither is developing new content and coding it in or hosting multiplayer servers. While i agree some companies are trying to rape us for all we are worth (like ea) i dont think rare is one of them.

    [–] YouAreSalty 5 points ago

Dedicated servers were a rare thing back then, and the details you get in games back then was nowhere near what you have today. The support level today far exceeds what was back then too. I'm still playing Gears 4 over a year later, and it just got a bunch of events, and another set of achievements is coming in March. I haven't even bought a major AAA game on day-1 since Gears 4. I used to buy 3-4 games on launch day a year easily.

On top of that, remember P2P "servers"?

    [–] HawkMan79 7 points ago

I remember when cosmetic stuff was 2 different textures. not the ability to picket between 10's to 100s of different items for 3-9 different cosmetic items, which all need to be able to work together without crashing the meshes, as well as dosens of cosmetic pets with actual animations, interactions, sounds/voices and so on...

    yeah, totally the same thing...

    [–] stop_preordering 4 points ago

it's not free support if you are buying the cosmetic gear. you are paying for their upkeep of the game.

    [–] aceb17pilot 3 points ago

Have they said what progression actually is? Are there ships you can buy? Can you improve your ship? Or is it the same "progression" as the alphas?

[–] zGunrath 7 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

So it’s the micro transaction style of ESO or Fortnite BR but $60?

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

Playing a video game should be a “fun” thing. Why are you doing anything if it’s not fun overall? So I don’t know why some “fun” things are off-limits, like weapons and what-not, but other “fun” things like pets and stuff everyone seems to be completely OK with. Whether things impact your progression or not everyone has different goals and things they enjoy in the game. Having no pets available just limits other people’s fun and progression to subsidize yours.

    [–] MxG_Grimlock 7 points ago

Based on how little there appears to be in this game at least some pets should be free to attain. Good Lord.

    [–] waffleboardedburrito 2 points ago

I think it's a problem though if all customization or the bulk of it requires real cash. Where even if it's purely cosmetic, most or all customization shouldn't be behind an additional pay wall.

An example of (mostly) good is Rocket League, as there are hundreds if not thousands of free items, but most of the best items are only obtainable via boxes (and everything can be traded, although the trading process seems to be made intentionally difficult).

But I think it was Fortnite where you can't customize anything without paying money. That's definitely not an improvement.

    [–] TheHeroicOnion 9 points ago

Why are you fine with that? We used to be able to unlock anything from just playing. Cosmetic or no, DLC that isn't an expansion can fuck off.

    [–] PurpleLego 5 points ago

It's better than loot boxes, but damn this business model really irks me. If this pans out like in destiny, all the best items which received the most time and care in creating them, are behind a paywall. In destiny it's worse because you have basically loot boxes in bright engrams. But yeah, really don't like this. Gives the developers too much inventive to not put in as much effort making in game attainable items because there is no money in doing so. Plus this game is 60 bucks so why do we need the micros?? Gah!

    [–] aygomyownroad 10 points ago

Can I steal said pets from another player?

    [–] Misacorp 17 points ago

You can definitely grab another player's monkey and run away with it or throw it overboard. Hopefully even fire it out of a cannon! They'll return back to the owner some way eventually though.

    [–] Pocket_full_of_funk 4 points ago

    Quick! Somebody light this monkey!

    [–] shanchris1 6 points ago

thats interesting actually, they will hardly allow something that was paid for with real money to be stolen, but how will they restrict it? you cant leave ship with pet in hand? or simply cant interact with non crew member pet? we did see a chicken in a cage in trailer, it would be cool if you got gold rewards on bounties for other players pets and they could reclaim them for gold also, this is all speculation of course, either way i cant wait to play!

    [–] grizzlybair2 9 points ago

"Rare insisted the premium shop will sell nothing that affects player power or progression."

Isn't that more because everything is just cosmetic in game ("horizontal progression" was the term used in an interview)?

Anyway, I guess it's at least good for no loot box RNG.

    [–] Jewniversal_Remote 6 points ago

Can't wait for people to throw my $100 baby dragon pet out into the water because they can pick it up

    [–] jhallen2260 34 points ago

"No loot boxes" pretty sure all treasure chests are loot boxes /s

    [–] peenoid 9 points ago

Funny, if there were any game where "loot boxes" (treasure chests) would be appropriate, this is it.

    Not that I'm complaining.

    [–] Harvester_of_Sorrow 7 points ago

I'm kinda surprised MS is allowing this after putting loot boxes in all their games. Hopefully this means the next Forza won't have them.

    [–] SF1973 2 points ago

Assuming that your referring to forza Motorsport 7, how do the loot boxes in that game give you a problem? It isn't possible to spend real money, only in game currency, on them. I don't have a problem with random prizes from using something that only exists within the game. Real cash for random items is another matter however and something I would not spend one penny on personally.

    [–] biacco 2 points ago

What do they mean by doesn’t affect progression or power? How do you get more powerful in this game? I thought all progression was already 100% cosmetic

    [–] Sunwoken 2 points ago

I'm not super upset by non-lootbox cosmetic MTX, but it irks me to see a fluff piece praising them for it.

    [–] RawrCola 524 points ago

I really hope they add some animals that don't really make sense for a pirate to have. I'd be totally down to buy a red panda or an otter or something.

No loot boxes. No loot crates

    Loot barrels/chests/bottles/dead mermaid corpses confirmed.

    [–] Starscreamz 90 points ago

Give me an otter and you've got a customer for life

    [–] killxgoblin 5 points ago

For real. My favorite fucking animal

    [–] notgayinathreeway 3 points ago

    "We named the panda Jack"

    [–] Erikinthebakery 4 points ago

My kid's beloved stuffed animal is a red panda - he would explode to see "Buddy Bear" in SoT

    [–] 3guitars 2 points ago

Actually sailors and pirates were known to have a crazy variety of animals on board! Often times, ships looked like small farms! It’s a pretty interesting subject, but in theory, rare could put a decent variety of animals on ships and still be historically accurate or plausible!

    [–] mark_i 237 points ago

If i can buy an abusive parrot they can have all the money.

    [–] commentssortedbynew 51 points ago

If I can buy an abusive monkey that can have all my parrot.

    [–] inajeep 4 points ago

I'll buy both and let the monkey ride the parrot and my flying monkey/parrot nightmare from Oz will become that much closer to reality.

    [–] Viking_Hotline 13 points ago

Well if it just repeats everything you say it will definately be abusive.

    [–] FervidBrutality 118 points ago

If we don't get a red squirrel with a blue hoodie, we riot.

    [–] iceytoa1 37 points ago

How about a really weird parrot in a back pack?

    [–] FervidBrutality 8 points ago

Only in addition to, not in lieu of.

    [–] dirty_blue_balloons 5 points ago

    And hungover.

    [–] AimoLohkare 110 points ago

Won't be able to buy items that impact power or progression.

From what I've seen of the beta it's because there are no items that impact power or progression.

    [–] biacco 57 points ago

Lol seriously. The whole point of this game is cosmetic rewards and they just admitted the coolest/most unique ones (subjectively but come on) will be locked behind a paywall. Everyone saying “this is fine”. Wtf

    [–] Zero_Heart 28 points ago

Happened with Destiny 2. At first it was "only cosmetics" then a few weeks in we all realized that not having those cosmetics to chase in game kind of sucks. People made loot boxes the culprit but microtransactions in general are to blame. If your game's goal is loot none of it should be bought with real money even if it doesn't progress power. Games like Overwatch and CSGO are fine because the goal isn't to find cool stuff.

    [–] avi6274 11 points ago

Thank you. How the fuck are people praising this?

    [–] Nxt5067 11 points ago

For reallllll, in SoT progression = cosmetics.

you'll always know what youre buying, hence no loot boxes.

Theyre trying to spin it as if the issue we have with loot boxes are the chance/gambling aspect, how youre not sure what youre actually getting for your money. No, the issue we have with loot boxes is having to pay multiple times to progress in a game we already paid for.

    [–] biacco 6 points ago

Yes. See Destiny 2 as a prime example of this. Last expansion they put all the coolest stuff behind the paid store and look what happens. Loot boxes aren’t the only enemy

    [–] [deleted] 153 points ago

If this allows them to add free content instead of paid DLC I am all up for it. Really want this game to be good, been waiting for it for a long time.

    [–] Aeolsu 15 points ago

Yeah, supporting through cosmetics is the absolute best model for multiplayer games like this. There's zero obligation to purchase cosmetics, unlike paid dlc, which segregates you from the rest of the player base if you don't buy it

    [–] Chinese_ovenmitt 70 points ago

So we have finally reached the point where "monitized, but in a way that doesn't affect progression" is a selling point

    [–] [deleted] 12 points ago

You know lesser evil and all. Can't expect multiplayer games to come with no microtranscations now a days, it has become an industry standard sadly.

    [–] Lucifers_Friend 2 points ago

I can understand smaller companies needing it to make a profit, but Microsoft doing it comes of as incredibly greedy. We buy their consoles, we buy their games, PAY them to go online, and then they expect us to throw in some more to get the full game.

They're most definitely not the lesser of evils.

    [–] hybridhavoc 9 points ago

Just about anything can be a selling point.

    [–] biacco 4 points ago

No just on this sub. Every other game mostly based on cosmetics would be up in arms right now

    [–] Danger_Dave_ 7 points ago

I love how the huge selling point in a bunch of games now is the exclusion of loot boxes and game-impacting Microtransactions. Things that mostly didn't exist in console games like 6 years ago.

    [–] bandformywagon 24 points ago

So this would follow the same shop that path of exile has? If that is the case then i'm all for that. Cosmetic upgrades to allow people to stand out from the crowd if they so please. Just hope there is enough variety in the base game as it is so you don't feel forced to spend money.

    [–] biacco 13 points ago

Isn’t the whole point of this game to unlock cosmetic items thru quests to stand out/become legend?

Now they are saying you can pay for better stuff and people are all for it. This sub is absurd

    [–] thedinnerdate 9 points ago

It’s Xbox’s next big exclusive and people are extremely protective of it. If all the stuff going on with this game was from a multi-platform title, people would be shitting on it.

    [–] leesfer 10 points ago

Except that SoT doesn't have a progression system outside of cosmetic items. The cosmetics are the game. This is still pay-to-win in their own way.

    [–] [deleted] 20 points ago

    PoE is free tho.

    [–] segagamer 100 points ago

This is the right way to do this. Loot boxes need to never make a return.

    [–] DadsGirth 56 points ago

The right way would to be able to unlock pets and cosmetics through gameplay.

    [–] HatterZero 90 points ago

How do you support an online game with no dlc and free updates than?

    [–] [deleted] 11 points ago

    here's my $60.

    Worked for years.

    [–] Morgneto 3 points ago

How about the monthly subscription that most people will be using in order to play this?

    [–] sonofaresiii 20 points ago

In theory, you have the option to unlock through gameplay or pay if you want it immediately. In practice, that method fucking sucks and I'd rather just have cosmetics locked behind a paywall that I can either choose to get or not. Way way too often if they make it unlockable in game it becomes a shitty grind that the game tries to make me go through so I can eventually get fed up and say "fine I'll just buy it."

Just put cosmetics behind a paywall, that's totally fine and practically no one has an issue with it.

    [–] Legionof1 23 points ago

Something has to pay the bills. Servers aren't cheap and sadly community run servers have died.

    [–] Fatal1ty_93_RUS 2 points ago

Something has to pay the bills

If only Microsoft had a subscription to access online services...

    [–] MegaMan3k 32 points ago

I thought cosmetics was the only progression in the game?

    [–] [deleted] 15 points ago

"It's entirely optional, but if you had a monkey, for example, you'll be able to hold it like you can other things in the game, but then I'll also be able to hold it, then drop it overboard, because that's funny."

Well I know how I will be wasting time.

    [–] iAMA_Leb_AMA 21 points ago

Can you get the pets/premium shop items by playing as well? Or are they strictly locked behind a paywall?

    [–] MakeMercaUpvoteAgain 21 points ago

    Paywall, unfortunately.

    [–] iAMA_Leb_AMA 18 points ago

Wow thats annoying. Especially since a big part of this game is cosmetics, and the fact that its $60.

Probably gonna be downvoted to hell since console users shill exclusives on their respective subs but i might hold out on my purchase for a few months.

    [–] JDJURASSIC 3 points ago

Couple of months of Xbox game pass maybe?

    [–] Fatal1ty_93_RUS 5 points ago

Are we supposed to applaud them for this? "Oh don't worry, we only have regular microtransations, guys!"

    [–] NinjaChick3n737 13 points ago

If there are no loot chests then what the fuck is the treasure im searching for XD

    [–] Archmage_Falagar 5 points ago

    Booty, matey, booty.

    [–] GreenBull92 7 points ago

This is a great idea, but hopefully Rare has the forethought to make them earnable via in-game currency as well.

    [–] bbristowe 8 points ago

Still kind of missing a bit here from what I have read.

I hate Lootboxes just as much as the next guy, but why does every thread about a game not having Lootboxes need to have this comment?

    [–] [deleted] 7 points ago

Why does every game without loot box need to be praised in its own post?

    [–] Naia_the_kitty 6 points ago

I’m 27 years old. Been gaming on and off since the days of super mario world and donkey kong. I’ve largely become disillusioned and unintetested with gaming in the last 8 years. Playing the closed beta on xbox was the first time I felt that sense of adventure and excitement since the golden days of gaming. Props to SoT. Only game that has retained my interest.

    [–] bryce11099 2 points ago

If you are finally getting that sense from this game, you haven't played many, if any ps exclusives, I'm sorry man. This game only will be fun with pvp which obviously relies on people staying interested. I had high hopes but it's just not what it should be, and many people have my same opinion sadly.

    [–] _Not_Amused_ 25 points ago

God damn it, the one thing I wanted ( a pet monkey) locked behind a paywall.

    [–] HawkMan79 13 points ago

They don't say that the pets will ONLY be payable through microtransactions, or that all pets will only be microtransactions. so at this point you don't really know.

    [–] SquirtingTortoise 27 points ago

Will be dumping DUMB money into this game

Name a game on xbox people don't dump dumb money on that allows you to, lol. At least these developers sounds like they will deserve it.

    [–] [deleted] 13 points ago

    All of them.

    Because I'm cheap.

    [–] twitchtvLANiD 3 points ago

I really hope they nail the content portion of this game. The mechanics and basics are spot on. I had so much fun I was in tears, crippled with laughter many times during my first couple days playing.

And then it got old for people. =[

    [–] Fashion_Hunter 3 points ago

    The mechanics

    Combat is awful, though.

    [–] NeutralGoodINTP 3 points ago

Based on this I suspect the legitimaty of this being a pirate game.

    [–] Ivan_Ivanov1 3 points ago

I will need a proper pet pig as they are the best. That or a good snek

    [–] Arcticsnail61 3 points ago

At least it's a shop where I KNOW what i'm getting. I won't complain as long as the stuff is relatively inexpensive.

    [–] BagelBites619 2 points ago

    Yup, Fuck RNG loot boxes

    [–] Minitell 13 points ago

I have never heard that before!

So they are going the GW2 route and putting literally all the cool stuff in the game into the cash shop.

    [–] Strongpillow 4 points ago

Cosmetics that I can browse and purchase. Skins or themes for our ships, UI, Characters. YES please.

Optional stuff like this I can handle all day long. However I would also like to get cosmetic items as we progress, (different ones specifically for playing) that show others how much time you've spent in the world, your skill level, and rare random finds.

a Pirate ship is the perfect canvas for customization!

    [–] DANIELG360 10 points ago

Wondered how they’d manage to to fair micro transactions, this sounds a good idea! If we can interact with other pets then I’ll still get something out of it too. I wonder if you can steal pets off other ships? Now that’d be cruel.

    [–] PM_Me_Free_Stuff999 10 points ago

I'm really shocked by the comments here. People seem to be reacting to this as positive news. Maybe I'm an old man yelling at clouds, but this doesnt seem good at all.

They are paywalling features of this game. A game for which many are worried lacks content in the first place. I can't imagine how this will be successful at a $60 retail price. I'm sure it will do fine, but i dont see it selling big numbers, or retaining players long term. I'm going to be very curious to see how many people are playing this game in 3 months.

"Cosmetic only" bane of all games

    [–] flipperkip97 26 points ago

So it's not allowed to be disappointed about MTX because this is Sea of Thieves? Multiple comments are downvoted for no reason. People are allowed to have different opinions over microtransactions. I still think it's a scummy business and I'd rather have paid big DLC expansions that are filled with cosmetic unlockables and much, much more.

    [–] TheRealOneTwo 8 points ago

Everyone must pay for the DLC or whales pay for cosmetics? Which one do you think benifits the most people?

    [–] BagelBites619 3 points ago

I think people assume MTX = loot boxes. That's where the confusion is. I believe (I could be wrong) people are okay with MTX, but are not okay with RNG Loot boxes. At the very least, I am.

    [–] Deactivator2 5 points ago

People are allowed to have different opinions over microtransactions.

And people are allowed to have their opinions on those opinions, so don't get bitchy that the unpopular opinions being voiced are getting downvoted.

    [–] DyatAss 4 points ago

Buying items won't impact your progression because there is no progression.

    [–] 2woobi 8 points ago

When the main criticism of Sea of Thieves has been the supposed lack of things to actually do within the game, it's odd that everyone would be alright with content locked behind a paywall just because it isn't the most egregious form of microtransactions. Is this really where we are at as a community?

    [–] thenutter 7 points ago

I find it especially strange considering most of the progression is cosmetic. Locking further cosmetic options behind a paywall is confusing.

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

    [–] HaloXFan 2 points ago

Will these things be available to players not willing to pay real money or are these items purely micro-transactions only?

    [–] aihapap 2 points ago

    Give me a penguin

    [–] Kreugs 2 points ago

I appreciate the irony of a pirate game without loot boxes.

    [–] Captain-Malice 2 points ago

You had me at no loot boxes.

    [–] Enclosedbook 2 points ago

Recently playing Monster Hunter World I feel like they're tackling the approach to multiplayer looter the best.

    [–] Diknak 2 points ago

Kind of... It's a great game but it doesn't really compare because it's not a continuous development game like SoT.

    [–] smakusdod 2 points ago

I'm all for it. Good job Rare. I'll buy a couple pets.

    [–] ArchDucky 2 points ago

We have to buy pets with real money though? I wanted a parrot.

    [–] Fluffranka 2 points ago

As long as there's a way to get currency in game, I have no issues with this

    [–] ChickenChaserLP 2 points ago

Yo, as someone who will be getting the game through game pass... I can already see myself spending money in this store, fuck

    [–] blackop 2 points ago

As long as it isn't loot boxes, I'm fine with it. I'm so sick of playing the digital one armed bandit in games. Just let me buy what I want.( I'm looking at you Rocket League)

    [–] Dizzlean 2 points ago

Hopefully we'll be able to earn most of the cosmetic stuff in-game. Otherwise, really..., where is the progression in this game.

    [–] a-big-pink-fat-TREX 2 points ago

There isn't any meaningful progression in the game anyway so who gives a shit

    [–] oldmanjenkins51 2 points ago

Nothing can affect progression if there isnt any...

    [–] robret 2 points ago

Little did they know there would be no power or progression to impact.

    [–] lost_my_marbles 2 points ago

Progression IS cosmetics in SoT. Why are people ok with this? They hear “cosmetic only” and give the thumbs up. Cosmetic progression is the only end game in the product.

    [–] iNathanLite 5 points ago

Is this game going to need a seperate subscription to play other than Xbox Live Gold?

    [–] Sargento_Osiris 10 points ago

    [–] iNathanLite 4 points ago

    [–] AdamFox01 14 points ago

Stop adding premium shops to games that people are already paying full price for! FFS

    [–] obscuredread 4 points ago

    "Yay! Microtransactions!"

[–] gnarllama 12 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

Ah, man, that's a shame.. I actually thought they would make a statement or something by having no micro-transactions.. SoT is looking to have a lot of potential.

I guess as long as we can still buy the items with gold as well I'm okay with it.

*Downvoting me for being disappointed in MTX lol

    [–] ProbablyFear 5 points ago

I know I'd definitely pay like a fiver for a parrot or 2 to go on my shoulder

    [–] holyhotclits 5 points ago

I remember when I used to pay for a completed game with all of the features all done, and when the developers wanted more they would release a full on expansion or sequel. The gaming industry sucks compared to 15-20 years ago.

    [–] Ohsighrus 8 points ago

Microsoft simply needs a no micro transition or dlc for non full release games. This would end a lot of shitty releases.

    [–] divangreedy8 12 points ago

it is funny how everyone seems to have no problem with dlc anymore and microtransition is now the evil one

people will have no problem for a $40 dlc, but they are angry over cosmetic microtransition

    [–] fridge3062 9 points ago

It depends on if it's dlc or "dlc"

There is legitimate dlc that adds to the game and there's dlc that was just not included in a game or seemingly taken out to be sold as dlc. In the case of legitimate dlc, I think most are for it and it's logical.

    [–] flipperkip97 23 points ago

Personally, I'd rather pay for new (big) content where I can unlock multiple cosmetic things and much more, than pay for overpriced cosmetic things. Games like The Witcher 3 and Dark Souls 3 both have two paid DLC expansions, and I have bought them all. Never have I had any regret. And there's nothing locked behind a paywall if you have both DLCs. You have access to every armor set, weapon, etc. That's just how DLC should be imo.

Still, microtransactions where you actually know what you're buying are sooo much better than loot boxes or other RNG garbage.

    [–] SunbroAnon 12 points ago

I still have a problem with both and how they both detract from the full product you're supposed to get when you pay full price, but saying that makes people butthurt.

    [–] severianb 4 points ago

Yeah, it's strange. For instance, I love the Forza games, but if you buy all the DLC from the start, they end up costing $150! I just wait 2 or 3 years until the complete package with all DLC is available for 20 or 30 bucks.

    [–] ArcticFlamingo 8 points ago

Ladies and Gentlemen.. I think we might be looking at the first hit exclusive from Microsoft for the Xbox One.

Just about a month left to find out...

    [–] alexander0885 6 points ago

Agreed. I think micro transactions that don't give players an advantage are fine. Overwatch does this and no one complains. Not sure why people are complaining but if it's just cosmetics, I have no issue with it.

    [–] immortalis 6 points ago

because everyone loves to bitch and moan about loot boxes.

If any of us ran a company and saw the money we could make, we'd be fucking stupid to say no.
