[–] Brexit, Actually -smrt- 2 points ago in LabourUK

This is so embarrassing. Seeing Tory propaganda every time I open youtube has got old fast.

Sure, it would be great to have a Tory majority in parliament. What could go wrong???

But people buy into this crap and that the most depressing thing of all.

[–] I fucking hate The S*n. -smrt- 2 points ago in LabourUK

I don't find it snobbish to observe that there is a great deal of ignorance among the general public, including the working class. It is an almost inevitable consequence of a media landscape that is so corrupt.

It should not be considered an attack to say that someone is ignorant. If you are not aware of the relevant information, you are objectively ignorant and that is a problem for which there needs to be some solution. The left needs to learn to get its message out to people a lot better. I just wish I knew how to do that.

[–] From a young Conservative member, I don't think Corbyn is Anti-Semitic -smrt- 2 points ago in LabourUK

I'm not convinced that the reality of the situation has any bearing on how the right wing press covers Corbyn.

I think his chances of becoming Prime Minister were always going to be devastated by the establishment's objection to socialism. If he had managed things perfectly, he would still be smeared just as much. Reality just does not matter to a large proportion of British voters unfortunately.

Not odd at all; it communicates exactly what he intended it to. He is not a sadist so he does not perform actions that cause harm to others for no good reason.

You can disagree that voting Tory amounts to causing harm on the population for no good reason, but that is the message he is communicating. This message is in line with every other political message I've heard from him.

[–] "Jeremy Corbyn supported the IRA!" 1. No, he condemned them 2. The Tories were in coalition with DUP 3. DUP are linked to UVF/UDA 4. Tory Councillor Maria Gatland was in the IRA 5. Tories sell bombs to the Saudis who arm ISIS Don't bring that Corbyn terrorist shit near me! -smrt- 13 points ago in LabourUK

I don't see much moral difference between committing violence against civilians for political purposes and allowing violence against civilians for financial purposes.

I don't believe you get a pass because you're not the one who pulls the trigger. If you know those weapons will be used to target civilians, whether in the hands of Saudi military or other terrorist groups, it's your moral responsibility not to sell those weapons. The only reason it's not viewed as totally heinous is because it's part of the status quo.

She had the temerity to suggest that Muslims do not all bear responsibility for the terrorist attack and the loss of their civil liberties was not justified by a different group of Muslims carrying out that attack.

[–] Pictures from The Spectator garden party. The BBC are so....utterly tenacious in holding power to account! When the 3 leading BBC journalists are drinking at the Durham Miner's Gala i'll talk about 'impartiality'. -smrt- 10 points ago in LabourUK

(BBC) journalists continue to be entirely too friendly with those they are supposedly employed to hold to account.

It's not the most egregious example but these people we pay to tell us the truth should not be stenographers to power.

If they could socialise with powerful politicians and remain objective when they're at work, that could be considered ok, but from what we see with the BBC, that is not what's happening. Their coverage, shockingly enough, favours the powerful people they hang out with. And this is ignoring the speeches they are apparently paid to give to the sort of groups that fund the Tory Party.

[–] John Legend’s cover of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is fucking ridiculous -smrt- 2 points ago in unpopularopinion

At times it really seems like it is. It's not funny enough to be comedy. It's not serious enough not to be. It's some kind of bizarre cross-breed.

[–] John Legend’s cover of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is fucking ridiculous -smrt- 3 points ago in unpopularopinion

Oh yes, look at this popular pop song that everyone is talking about. Did it get to #1 or #2 in the charts? I forget.

[–] U.K. Labour Leader Corbyn Would Stop Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia -smrt- 6 points ago in LabourUK

Britain's Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said on Sunday he would stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia for use in Yemen if he wins an election this month.

Does this seem slightly concerning to anyone else? How can we know which arms would be used in Yemen and which would not?

It seems more reliable to me to blacklist the human rights abusers and not allow any arms sales to Saudi Arabia at all. I appreciate the effort though.

[–] Hot take from The Guardian: left and right are the exact same -smrt- 3 points ago in ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM

Goddamn, I can't keep up with their fascist-style exploits. They need to put it all in a newsletter or something.

They don't even bother to hide it any more. That's what is shocking me. I think they have taken inspiration from Trump in that it's very difficult for the opposition to rally around a scandal if you have multiple scandals a day. And on the other hand, Corbyn and Labour are smeared with the same thing on a daily basis, which makes it stick.

    For anyone interested.
