[–] This is why I hate escalators AcidTWister 2 points ago in funny

Almost as bad as the guy stopping in the middle of the stairs to film people instead of telling them they're doing it wrong.

About 22 seconds in, on the other side of the road.

This is also what the drunk driver said shortly after he crashed.

It's almost as if the founding fathers knew this would happen and had originally planned for the Constitution to be thrown out every once in a while for a new, more relevant version.

[–] New Mexico governor warns sheriffs they must enforce new red flag gun law or resign AcidTWister 2 points ago in Libertarian

Sounds like the governor is a threat to others. We should probably make a red flag call on her so no one gets harmed.

I think it comes down to emergencies not being a viable situation to be picky about where you go. If you're unconscious and someone dials up an ambulance, should you be responsible for the check, or should they? You never consented to the ride.

[–] World is on the brink of a coronavirus pandemic, warn virologists AcidTWister 2 points ago in worldnews

I had forgotten last week, and wound up not recording the number until Wednesday. So, if we're going off a weekly total from last Wednesday, we're up to 81,279/2,770 right now, same link as the 2/24 total above. It's still a relatively moderate increase over the previous weeks, but I feel like China hasn't updated their numbers this week, too.

I think the biggest thing right now is that it's being kept contained to the Eurasian continents, and Australia. There's a little more control over the population of citizens there, as you said. It's hit America, but only essentially sideswiping it with all of our cases coming from people that were in China or on the Diamond Princess cruise. If it ever actually hits us, we'll be screwed. The panic and people rushing home overseas and across borders is gonna be a hell of a thing to deal with, and I don't know that our current political leader is capable of dealing with it.

[–] Report: Saudis, UAE illegally funnelled millions to Trump 2016 campaign AcidTWister 6 points ago in worldnews

    From the article:

Ahmad "Andy" Khawaja, the CEO of an online payment processing company, says Emirati officials disguised the money using stolen identities and gift cards as under-$200 campaign contributions that are not required to be reported to the Federal Election Commission.

Khawaja is currently a fugitive himself wanted for making false statements, obstruction and allegedly making $3.5m in illegal contributions to the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.

    Guys. Come on.

This is the kind of thing you post on Pepsi's social media. You can read that truck number loud and clear.

[–] World is on the brink of a coronavirus pandemic, warn virologists AcidTWister 0 points ago in worldnews

Sure. I've been concerned because there's such a large population center there in the east. If the disease had swooped south through Thailand, and Vietnam, eventually making it's way over to India, india/china combined have a third of the population of the earth. That's potentially hitting bubonic numbers in just those two countries.

I think since the Western countries got so afraid of it though, we should be fine. A lab in California had a vaccine ready to go 3 hours after getting access to the virus' genetic sequence. Just a matter of mass producing it now. Look at what happened when Ebola hit the states.
