[–] Klopp on Wagner's exit from Huddersfield: "He's okay. What I told him, I can tell you: He should be really proud of what he achieved there. One of the most special stories in football in the last few years. It was unbelievable what he did." AdamB1706 343 points ago in soccer

I think it was a case of if we know he's going we might as well start our plans for the post Wagner age.

There was no animosity about it and the club, players former and current have been showering him with no stop praise.

Hell, even Ben Chillwell who only played a month under him 3 years ago came out with a glowing review immediately.

Besides I really do think he needed to go (for his own sake) as much as I wanted him forever, he was starting to look so drained

And this way he avoids having a relegation on his record.

I will follow his career to the end and become a plastic fan of wherever he goes.

He will always be loved and remembered

It seems like we're trying to keep a style of football at the club. Might see us return to the attacking play that got us up.

    Time will tell

I really do. We've shown a willingness to spend on the right players, Kongolo being one of them. He's streets ahead of the team and we spent nearly 20 million on him.

The players that we sold over the summer were better than the ones we brought in to replace them.

It doesn't help that the recruitment team just seemed to be ignorant to what the team actually needed.

We were never going to put ourselves in financial danger given the chairman having come in at a time when the club looked like it was about to fold. But the money was there. Just used so badly.

I think he really does love the club and our journey and that just makes it all the more bitter for me.

There was a group of fans calling for him to go and I find it frankly disgusting. I'll forever be angry with the way it ended. I doubt I'll see town have a story like this for a long, long time after.

I'm not even sure it's reality catching up with us if I'm honest. Though I guess that plays a part, it's painfully obvious to an extent this season just how much Wagner had them playing above their level

We lost Stewart Webber to Norwich the season we went up and he'd been in charge of recruitment. We've gone through a couple of replacements since.

Since then our squad only took sideways and backwards steps, bar a couple exceptions such as Kongolo.

The man most fans blame for the season is our sporting director who incidentally left the club not long after Wagner. Celebration ensues.

Our recruitment this summer was absolutely embarrassing and I firmly believe it's what did us in. It makes me truly truly sad to think that such poor efforts by the recruitment team cost us a real modern legend for us and I'm not sure I'll ever forgive the bastards that decided to prioritise wingers after Dave changed to a 5 at the back system.

The bad results were clearly beggining to weigh on him and everyone could see it. I really think his attachment to the club made the results sting badly.

Told the chairman that he needed a break from football and would leave at the end of the season, but offered to go sooner if the board preferred.

It sounds like you have 0 idea of what actually happened so I'd pipe down if I were you.

He told the chairman he'd be leaving at the end of the season because he needed a break from football, but said he'd leave earlier if that's what the board felt was best.

At no point was sacking even on the table. It was well known the chairman was going to stand by him into the championship if/when we were relegated, and it has been known for well over a year.

We played exactly like the when it could be competitive in the championship. We had to change style when we went up.
