[–] Very confused/lost aspiring guide (Canada) AlligatorDeathSaw 5 points ago in alpinism

Which cert are you going for? Full Mountain? If you're going for full mountain, I would start with Rock and move towards Alpine and Ski

I have significantly more experience skiing than climbing so I'm going to submit my application for ski guide next year and rock guide after that. What do you need help with exactly?

Btw I'm in fernie but I spent a couple winters in Revy. I also spend a decent amount of time around Roger's Pass

[–] What’s the dumbest first world problem that you’ll admit complaining about? AlligatorDeathSaw 1 points ago in AskReddit

Complaining when people ask me open ended questions via text when they should've called. I'm not writing a novel on my phone

Having lived in both Golden and Revelstoke, I have spent a decent amount of time in Roger's Pass.

First of all, these aren't the Canadian Rockies. The canadian rockies are everything east of Golden. This is the Columbias. More specifically, it is a subrange of the columbias called the Selkirks. Closer to Golden and south the columbias have a subrange called the purcells and west of revy is the monashees.

Secondly, your two major resources for winter in Roger's Pass are going to be Douglas Sproul's book called GeoBackcountry found here

    http://www.geobackcountry.com/book/

This is a backcountry skiing guide to Roger's Pass which is far and away the most popular winter time activity short of tourists getting out of there car in the winter to take a few pictures before continuing on their journey

The other major resource is Avalanche Canada. I highly recommend downloading the App but the website is good too. http://www.avalanche.ca/map

Avalanche Canada publicly broadcasts current (once winter starts) avalanche conditions and has a particularly localized and useful broadcast for Glacier National Park.

    Enjoy!

For the record, Glacier National Park (U.S.) was established in 1910 while Glacier National Park (CA) was established 1886. So enough grief about the name

The canadian Glacier National Park hosts some of the best ski touring and ski mountaineering in Canada. People travel from all over to ski here. Additionally, the Northwest ridge of Sir Donald is one of the '50 Classic Climbs of North America", and there is a TON of unexplored alpine climbing here. Remote enough to keep the crowds away but all highway-side access and only an hour from Golden or Revelstoke

Fuck that shitty ass orange mec bag. I have one. What a piece of shit

[–] Skiing an Alpine Ice Route on Mt. Victoria, Canada AlligatorDeathSaw 2 points ago in alpinism

Good work! North summit actually looks like its steeper than I would've imagined, but the skiing looked pretty straightforward. When did you hit it?

I've always had a hard-on for the sickle though after watching Greg's old video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ2aBWLWkZs

But it's hard having much enthusiasm about that now after what happened last year

[–] Men with man buns: why? AlligatorDeathSaw 1 points ago in AskReddit

Yeah, that's what I'd do although I would tend to put it in a bun. And then everyone was like, "AlligatorDeathSaw you're so TRENDY with your MANBUN" and I was like "Why are you making this a thing"

[–] Other than money, what would you want an unlimited supply of? AlligatorDeathSaw 1 points ago in AskReddit

True, but more effective than planes which basically can only land at airports. I can still use a car if I need to by the way

[–] Men with man buns: why? AlligatorDeathSaw 2 points ago in AskReddit

Because my hair got long and it was so much better when it was not in my face

True and also, this crag is an hour hike from the road and no major trails nearby. I doubt anyone will care.

That's not true. There is an 8 pitch 5.9 to the lookers left, which I have personally climbed twice. It is a great climb, you should check it out

[–] What ever became of the smartest person in your school? AlligatorDeathSaw 2 points ago in AskReddit

    Relevant:

"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which low-ability individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability as much higher than it really is. Psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger attributed this bias to a metacognitive incapacity, on the part of those with low ability, to recognize their ineptitude and evaluate their competence accurately. Their research also suggests corollaries: high-ability individuals may underestimate their relative competence and may erroneously assume that tasks which are easy for them are also easy for others"

Helicopter flights. Pick and drop off wherever and whenever I need. Essentially the most effective form of travel.

[–] New ski advice AlligatorDeathSaw 0 points ago in skiing

I honestly just ski Renegades/Hojis everywhere haha. Im sure you could do the same. But I hate line skis personally so I wouldn't recommend a pair to anyone

[–] Ski Jacket Question AlligatorDeathSaw 1 points ago in skiing

So the reason your legs are getting sweaty is because of the 3 layers. Try just boxer briefs and your looser long Johns under you ski pants. Or boxer briefs and base layer. I would only wear that many layers when its like -30F.

On the warmest days, I'll wear only boxer briefs and ski pants

You definitely should try wearing less
