By access issues, I mean that the lake louise area is having infrastructure and housing crises because the area is so overloaded with tourists but upgrade projects are hindered by Parks Canada guidelines (to protect the area from development). Additionally, nobody can access the area without arriving very early in the morning or waiting hours. There's plenty of examples of overuse if you just look for them and those are accompanied by trail closures and development projects (which is an attempt to remedy the problem). That said, given what you think about how 'accessible' the area is, there are plenty of areas in yoho, kootenay and even banff that have little to no walking in and you could access in less time than if you were to wait in line to park at lake moraine.

There's no locals only attitude here, so why make a problem where there isn't one?

I’m going to be the Devils advocate here and say I disagree. There are hundreds of lakes just like this in the Canadian Rockies. A few require little to no hiking effort, yet photos of lake moraine from that aspect are uploaded to reddit daily

The lake moraine area is literally being ‘loved to death’ by tourists. The number of tourists that go up there to basically take this same picture is creating access issues in the park. If people were to take pictures of more Canadian Rockies lakes, access would be less of an issue

It's irrelevant because it's nowhere near Johnston canyon or the Canadian Rockies as a whole. Yukon is sparsely inhabited and is not a good indicator of 'when winter starts in Canada'. This discussion isn't about remote mountaineering destinations

And even if this conversation was about remote mountaineering.....Denali>Logan

That's more realistic. That would still be a significant storm anywhere.

None in the Canadian Rockies. The tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies is Mount Robson at 3954m or 12,972ft

We do have Mount Logan at almost 6000m in the Yukon but that's irrelevant

Well, to my knowledge, the strongest snowfall rate ever recorded was actually just last year in Valdez. They recorded a world record of ~25cm/hr.

You're claiming to have experienced a storm with over double that rate.

Here's an article about the event in Anchorage Daily News:

    I don’t have a ‘from Texas’.....

    Oh did you mean ‘you’re’?

Calgary is a city of over a million people. Virtually every building is heated and you don’t have to go outside too much. That said you need to check the weather before you leave your house and you may end up carrying a winter coat with you in 15C

And although the First Nations would probably appreciate it if we took their advice, we don’t really need to

55cm/hr???? That’s extremely high, even for iqualuit. How do you even measure that in 130km/h winds???Snowfall accumulation measurements are notoriously inaccurate in high winds

Because it’s Canada. Why do you think it’s so weird to expect Meters in Canada?

[–] Today at Johnston Creek, AB, Canada [2724*4101] [OC] AlligatorDeathSaw 1 points ago in EarthPorn

There’s no 6k meter elevation in the Canadian Rockies. Even the highest Mountain doesn’t hit 4K meters

Winter starts in Canada on December 21st. Just like everywhere else

Depends on concentration, I know that 30% hydrogen peroxide solutions are available. Those will degrade much faster than those that are 3%.

30% peroxide would not survive a year at STP

Show up before 730 and it’s a done deal. People would rather sleep for an extra hour and then spend an 2 hours waiting at that turn

4 weeks ago looks much differently than it does now. I’m sitting in the lake Louise parking lot and I can barely see Fairview the smoke is so dense
