That's what I needed right there. Should be fun anyway. Thanks dude

aw man you've got me checking the price of international flights right now. I think I'm gonna' do it.

edit: yep I'm going for it. Long overdue and I'm able swing it now, so no harm done either way. Should be a lot of fun. Thanks for the push, guys.

Yeah, friends on social media and such and we message each other semi-frequently.

I think if I'm actually serious about it the better move is to just finally take her up on her offer to come visit sometime. And then see if we have any chemistry in the slightest.

But I appreciate the kick in the ass!

I mean, I've definitely thought about it. Extensively. But I enjoy keeping the delusion alive.

[–] What's the pettiest reason you won't date someone over? ChanceList 34 points ago in AskReddit

I gave her a couple weeks to prove herself, but she didn't make the cut.

[–] What self improvement practice has benefitted you the most? ChanceList 2 points ago in AskReddit

Journaling. I check in with myself and vent my thoughts once in the morning and once at night, and it's benefited every facet of my life. I'm the sort of person that doesn't really know what I think (about myself, the world, something that's bothering me, etc) unless I write it down. This gives my thoughts clarity and helps me get in touch with who I am and what I really want. It keeps me in touch with my goals and provides a record of who I am on a day-to-day basis. I also jot down notes about the weather, what I wore and ate that day, the habits I did or did not keep up with... by isolating all the factors and seeing the results, I get closer and closer to having a perfect day.

[–] What will the 2020s bring in technology? ChanceList 94 points ago in AskReddit

I spend a lot of time wondering what effects convincing VR will have on people and society at large. When you have the ability to swing around as Spider-Man or be 18 years old again and fuck anime cat girls all day or whatever it is you get into, will you ever want to do anything else? Will we all become shut-ins? Will depression evaporate, or sky-rocket? I think these are things we need to consider, because it's coming soon.

She was an exchange student who I was absolutely over the moon for. We had a few dates and I think she was fairly sweet on me, but didn't want to get too involved with someone who would soon be on the other side of the world from her (and I think a little bit of cultural stigma at play as well). Now she's a professional athlete of some note; I think she competes with her national team. Naturally I still have vague notions of us getting back together some day.

[–] What historical fact blows your mind? ChanceList 1 points ago in AskReddit

I read this one in school, and found it to be a pretty great overview and a nice synthesis of contemporary accounts. Though I'm sure you could find Petrarch's writings on it online with a bit of searching.

She insisted on going for runs together, but ran way too slowly for me.

[–] Do you ever just look at other people and think about how everyone is living their lives simultaneously yet so differently? How you and 10 other people made the decision to go to that specific café at that specific time and etc..? ChanceList 34 points ago in AskReddit

I wish there was a pill you could take that would inspire that kind of far-reaching, imaginative empathy. Even with the advent of social media (which allegedly connects people), it seems like we're still pretty myopic with regards to other people's inner lives. The truth is that everyone you meet has a story that's just as interesting as your is. People really open up when you have that realization about them.

That the Black Death killed between 30 and 50 percent of Europe's population within four years. Hard to imagine how terrifying that must have been.

[–] TIL that, after their bomber crashed in Japan in 1945, eight American Airmen were taken to Kyushu University Medical School and dissected alive. ChanceList 12 points ago in todayilearned

I wouldn't have believed that there was actually a pro-Chinese agenda at play on Reddit... but I just had a post that pointed out the Chinese regime's (proven) organ-harvesting scheme removed for being anti-Chinese. Patently ridiculous.

[–] What’s an accomplishment you’re proud of that you can’t really bring up without seeming like you’re awkwardly bragging? ChanceList 11 points ago in AskReddit

I pulled a guy out of a burning house one time. I can't see how I'd ever bring that up because it sounds so absolutely cliched and cheesy, but the truth is that it's probably the best thing I'll ever do with my life.

[–] What’s your six degrees of separation from a celebrity? ChanceList 4 points ago in AskReddit

My grandpa played on records for Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Waits, Carol King, Getz and Gilberto... and on the soundtrack for Star Wars: A New Hope. I got to meet John Williams when he came over to his house one time. Really nice guy.
