Smart home stuff seems cool, but things like this and the lack of security are keeping me away actually purchasing anything.

Yeah, the article is actually pretty good, but that post title is pretty lame...

[–] Jeff Bezos donating $33,000,000 is the equivalent of someone who makes $50,000 a year donating $16. ChickenTeriyakiBoy1 -8 points ago in LateStageCapitalism

Both. Typical amazon offers are salary (which is usually above market value of what other people are paying), stock in the company and a relocation bonus if relevant. Financially it's really good, but they have a really intense work culture and most people don't want to stay there very long because of that. I believe the NY Times wrote a piece a few years ago about the toxic work enironment there.

Source: I know a lot of people that work there. My roomate worked there for many years. I've been recruited by them and recieved two job offers from them.

Amazon actually pays their employees really well. Way above market value in many cases. There are definitely some negative to working there, but salary isn't one of them.

You're assuming that the only thing that's relevant is the percentage of his income that he donates. $33M dollars can go a long way toward inniating a change and helping a lot of people, at least far more than $16 dollars would.
