[–] Whats your "I'm glad I tried it, but never again" story? DCxMiLK 5 points ago in AskReddit

Accidentally tased my face and that really sucked. Thankfully is wasn't a good taser.

My wife got a new taser and I was playing with it like any grown man would do. Apparently when you play with them enough, it will store an electoral charge in the prongs. I reached up to scratch my cheek when the prongs hit my lip and shocked to crap out of me. Caused me to jump and press the button and tased my chin. Felt like an explosion in my head and my whole face went tight and numb. Haven't touched it since.

Lol I'm sure my wife would love exploding wood in our microwave.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be trying this one out. I've got some green maple burl I want to turn into a vase at some point. Would this work on a vase without warping it to bad?

Green wood is fun and satisfying to turn. My only complaint with it is you have to turn a rough bowl shape, leaving the walls thick, then let it sit and dry out for a few months or sometimes a year. Within that year it will warp and sometimes crack. After its dry you turn it again to remove the warps and get it to its final size. The advantage is green wood is cheap and sometimes free.

That's rich coming from a lawyer. Not saying all lawyers are bad but some of worst people are lawyers.

He did get in trouble from his parents. We were 10 at the time. I do remember his dad broke his bow and grounded him. I would say he took his cell phone but those hadn't been invented yet.

I've never been stabbed but I've been shot with an arrow before and agree it really sucks. I was shot with a compound hunting bow. Luckily it was with a target arrow and didn't have a broad head on it, just a sharp point. It still did a ton of damage though. It went through my right bicep and into my chest, shattering a rib and puncturing a lung. My former friend thought it would be funny to scare me as I was retrieving my arrows from my target. It did scare the shit out of me. Literally, I think I shit my pants. We are not friends anymore.

The vast majority of them are like this. People forget how many police officers there are in the U.S. We only hear about the few bad ones.

My wife and I had a similar discussion about this. I always tip 20% and if we have a coupon then I base my tip on the price before the coupon. She thinks I should tip 15% because she still thinks that is the appropriate amount and if we have a coupon then the tip should be based on the discounted total. Servers don't make enough to cheap out on a tip. In my area they make $2.13 an hour.

Yes they do. Saw a guy on the bus do this. Dropped his contact on the floor, picked it up, put it in his mouth, then put it in his eye.

Not sure if you found what your looking for yet but exotic blanks has a whole section of click pens. https://www.exoticblanks.com/click-pen-kits/

[–] My small turning space. You don't need a lot of room or a garage. DCxMiLK 1 points ago in turning

Absolutely. I use a polyester resin called Silmar 41. It's a higher grade polyester resin then most. And cheaper. I cast them in 3/4 inch pvc pipes, except the night light. That was cast in 3 inch pvc. I get most of my pigment powders from dip your car, but I also use PearlEx powder which you can buy on Amazon.

I only use a vacuum chamber to stabilize wood with cactus juice. I use a pressure pot to cast the wood and resin. I also use alumilite when I cast different materials together. A vacuum chamber cause alumilite to cure almost instantly. A pressure pot is always needed to cast alumilite but polyester resin doesn't need one. Its cure time is slow enough that all the air bubbles rise. I've cast several hundred pen blanks out of polyester and I've only had one blank get air bubbles but that was because the resin was cold when I cast it. It needs to be room temperature.

Lol turning blanks are in 3 totes. One for resin, one for wood, and one for cutoffs. Plus I have a shelf full of larger blanks that won't fit in the tote. All in all I have around 200 blanks.

That little thing is surprisingly powerful although I rarely turn anything bigger then a pen.

I haven't had to much of a problem with shrapnel landing on shelves but my problem is dust control. If I work with resin then I wet sand only and this prevents dust. Wood is where I have the problem. Rockler does make a nice attachment for the lathe that connects to a shop vac. It great for pen turning but doesn't hook to my small ship vac. http://www.rockler.com/dust-right-lathe-dust-collection-system

Thanks. I've had a few problems making displays for craft shows and took what I need outside. I am limited though on the size of things I can build in my area and wouldn't mind some more room in the future.
