[–] Indiana man, 34, who impregnated 10-year-old girl, gets over 100 years in prison DCxMiLK 20 points ago in news

According to information gathered by Amnesty International Leyla Mafi, from Arak, Iran, had been prostituted by her mother starting from the age of 8. Leyla M. had a developmental delay (at the age of 19 she was assessed to have a mental age of 8 years old). Among the men who paid to rape the disabled child were several male relatives. She had three children, the first at the age of 9 and then twins at age 14. At age 19, she was condemned and faced the death penalty for the "moral offenses" of debauchery, incest, and illegitimate motherhood. Lawyer Shadi Sadr intervened on her behalf, and her sentence was reduced to public beating and imprisonment. After 2006, Ms. M was sent to a rehabilitation center and eventually came to reside in an apartment with a caretaker.

Jesus what a miserable life this girl has had.

[–] Latest fountain pen I made. DCxMiLK 1 points ago in fountainpens

Thank you. Buckeye is a type of tree and burl is an abnormal growth or deformity in the tree that gives a unique grain pattern. Most tree types can grow a burl. This is what a burl knot looks like on a tree.

[–] What's a good way to expalin the vastness of the universe to a person who barely knows about the solar system ? DCxMiLK 1 points ago in AskReddit

This post recently really stuck home with me about how vast space is and how tiny we are. That little blip is 170 billion km tall, our solar system is 9.09 million km in diameter.

[–] What company will never see another dollar from you ? DCxMiLK 156 points ago in AskReddit

This is one I don't get. I have a friend who won't set foot in a walmart but can't give me a reason other then he hates walmart. I work third shift and it's basically the only thing open at night so I do most of my shopping there. Granted I avoid walmart like the plague during the day. Too many people and not enough lines open. But for the most part, walmart carries just about everything at a reasonable price.

[–] What's something horrible you've witnessed as a child but did not completely understand, only to discover later in life how horrible it really was? DCxMiLK 2 points ago in AskReddit

When I was 8 my mom, sister, and I came home from having dinner at a friend's house. It was a Friday night so it was around 11 at night. We lived in a small town so when we saw a police helicopter with a spotlight looking for something, it was a big deal. We got to our street and there were police everywhere. They were all at our house. My dad was a truck driver and had come home early and wanted to surprise us. This was in the early 90's so cellphones weren't readily available. When he pulled into our driveway, a man walked out of our house with a machete and started walking to my dad's semi truck. My dad thought we were inside and went to get out of the truck when the guy swung the machete at him and hit the door of the truck and luckily got it stuck in the door. When my dad got out of the truck the guy took off running. My dad didn't chase him he ran for the house thinking we were all dead. I remember when we pulled in the driveway my dad breaking down and just holding us. One of the first things I saw was a machete sticking out of his door. The whole time all I thought was how cool all the police looked. The one thing that did get to me was my dad crying. He was a Drill Sargent for 10 years in the Army and though as nails, so strong him the crying and holding is really got to me. I can't imagine what my dad was going through, thinking his family was all dead. Finding no one in the house and no idea where we were. He told us he thought we must have been in the woods around the house hiding and the helicopter was looking for us. With everything going on, no one thought to look in the garage to see if our car was the.

Turns out it was our neighbor. His wife was divorcing him and taking the kids because he was abusive. She had a restraining order against him. He got drunk and decided to kill her and the kids but got the wrong house. He thought my dad was her new boyfriend and was going to kill him but when he lost his weapon he lost his courage.

TL;DR drunk neighbor tried to kill his wife and kids but went to the wrong house. My dad came home to him in our house and thought we were all dead.

[–] What movie has a plot hole that cant be ignored? DCxMiLK 1 points ago in AskReddit

This isn't exactly a plot hole in the movie but any future movie. Beautiful Creatures is based on a book series and in the first book the main character dies and the witch uses magic to bring him back. This one action is what the rest of the books are about. In the movie the witches uncle uses magic to look like the main character and took his place and died. He wasn't brought back with magic. It was such a big loop hole that any movie after that wouldn't be based on the books. It pissed so many people off that they canceled production on the other movies.

[–] Been making razors for a while now but this is my first full set. I know it's a cartridge (couldn't convince them to switch) but I thought you all would enjoy this. DCxMiLK 5 points ago in wicked_edge

This is a set I made for a customer to give to her son for his birthday. This is the first complete set I've made. Most of the razors I make are double edge safety razors but she didn't think he would like it but she can change the head on this to a safety razor if he wants one.

The razor is a Gilette Fusion with a matching stand and badger hair brush. Everything thing has a gun metal finish and the handles are made from resin.

[–] Massive Lightning Strike Over Louisville, Kentucky DCxMiLK 1 points ago in woahdude

Possibly. I live in Louisville and that was probably from the storm we had Friday and some of the lightning I saw lasted that long.

[–] Massive Lightning Strike Over Louisville, Kentucky DCxMiLK 1 points ago in woahdude

Having lost power for extended periods of time, multiple times in Louisville, I now have a backup generator. 14 days without power after hurricane ike hit Louisville and the 3 inches of freezing rain that knocked out power for 11 days, I had enough.

[–] chip bag at 9,000 feet elevation DCxMiLK 2 points ago in mildlyinteresting

I believe they do but often the chips on his load probably aren't meant for higher elevations but to get from point a to b it's faster to go through the mountains and that's what the company pays you for.

[–] chip bag at 9,000 feet elevation DCxMiLK 2 points ago in mildlyinteresting

My dad lost a load of cool whip when he first started driving because of this. The company only paid him for the shortest route but neglected to tell him that he couldn't take that route because it went through the mountains and cool whip will explode at high altitude.

[–] TIL that the 7th time that park ranger Roy Sullivan was struck by lightning coincided with the 22nd time he fought off a bear with a stick. DCxMiLK 169 points ago in todayilearned

I have no scientific proof to back this up but only a personal experience and the word of a cop. I was outside of my wife's parents house and there neighbor shot himself in the temple 20 feet from where I was standing. All I heard was a small pop. This was in the middle of the city so I thought nothing of it. A few minutes later his wife walked outside and asked if I'd seen her husband. It was pitch black out and we searched for him and found him in the back of the yard by my wife's parents garage. The detective told me the head can sometimes act like a suppressor and muffle the noise when I asked why I didn't hear the shot.

[–] Cops of Reddit, what strange or obscure laws does your town require you to enforce? DCxMiLK 2 points ago in AskReddit

Not a cop but I make pens and some of the novelty pens I make like this one made from a 50 BMG shell is illegal in Massachusetts and Washington D.C. It's not inforced in Massachusetts but is in D.C.

[–] The college of pizza cardinals are standing vigil DCxMiLK 1 points ago in funny

I worked at the body shop where that car was restored. We delivered it to his house that was still under construction. There's a 35 foot eagle statue in the front room that the house had to be built around. That car sits on a rotating floor in his garage now.
