[–] What happened to the under-center offense? FranchiseCA 1 points ago in CFB

Love the wing-T. The high school I went to has run it for at least the last four decades. It's the smallest public school in our CIF section, but one of the regular contenders.

[–] AITA For calling my wife out for possibly being racist? FranchiseCA 5 points ago in AmItheAsshole

Potentially NAH. I currently work somewhere that has a lot of patrons of many different backgrounds. There are some customers I keep an eye on. There are others I don't worry about at all. There are black customers in both groups. I wouldn't use that phrase because it can imply an intrinsic connection between the two elements, which is not the case.

[–] My bishop knows I don't believe and asked me to speak in church anyway FranchiseCA 3 points ago in latterdaysaints

    Good on you.

My flair is what it is for a reason. I am drawn to a couple important passages: the analogy of church members as the body of Christ, and the gifts of the Spirit. One of the gifts I've been given is faith. Even when it all went sideways in my life, I knew God loved me, even if I couldn't understand why he was allowing the current circumstances. If faith isn't one of your gifts, that's okay.

I don't know your circumstances or perspective, and that's okay. We each have unique insight and skills that can be used to support and care for one another. This definitely includes those with doubts so strong they don't even call themselves a believer. We are all still brothers and sisters in Christ.

Second territory and fourth state, IIRC. The west in general was far more aggressive in extending suffrage than other regions.

These are the effects of a frenzied mind.

Sacramento's long-standing problem was not having a truly invested billionaire. Nothing more or less.

It's also the reddest state by far to pass legislation protecting sexual orientation and gender identity when it comes to employment and housing.

[–] Which teams are the biggest overachievers and underachievers? FranchiseCA 1 points ago in CFB

Compared to preseason expectations? Compared to recruiting rank?

[–] repentance FranchiseCA 1 points ago * (lasted edited 14 hours ago) in lds

I do not think this approaches the level of seriousness that needs consultation with an ecclesiastical leader. But if you need reassurance for this interview, you can bring it up, either then or beforehand.

Often, when we change our lives, we aren't immediately successful. You had a temporary setback. It sounds like you have mostly handled it: you recognized your error and have decided to do better. There are a couple things that I suggest doing if you haven't yet. Have you apologized to those you have harmed? In this case, that's yourself. And when you hear that apology, I hope you go easy on her, it sounds like she really wants to do what is right. Next, do you accept that the atonement really does allow us to change, that you can be the sort of person who no longer makes the same mistakes? In 3 Nephi, Christ keeps repeating that his Gospel is nothing but faith and repentance. Do you believe in those principles? Not just for others, but for you, too?

[–] I dreamt i had a migraine FranchiseCA 2 points ago in migraine

I don't usually remember dreams, but I recently had a dream about being dizzy and woke up with vertigo. Real life often leaches into dreaming.

[–] [CA] Can a daycare refuse service to a homophobic Christian family or is that discrimination? FranchiseCA 6 points ago in legaladvice

Your question isn't if it's discrimination, because refusing service to some while providing it to others always is. The question at hand is if it is legal. To use an unrelated example, if you were fired for refusing to work and leaving your colleagues to do everything, that would be a good example. So would a movie theater kicking out a disruptive patron.

Is the problem that they are of a specific denomination? Not legal to discriminate.

Is the problem their sincerely held belief that homosexual relationships are not basically analogous to heterosexual ones? Not legal to discriminate.

Is the problem that they were jerks to other patrons? You're golden.

[–] Trump Vetoes Bill to End U.S. Military Support for Saudi-led War in Yemen FranchiseCA 3 points ago in politics

The coordinated aspect is important. I don't think Trump is interested in if subordinates break laws or not. He just wants them to be deferential when he's in the room or when speaking about him to the press. Do illegal or unethical things out of sight to further your interests or accomplish his vague orders, and he doesn't care. It's a set of circumstances that allows for even more self-dealing and unethical behavior than usual, but it's at more than arm's length from him, because he isn't very involved in anything. He's often like an outside observer of his own presidency, offering little guidance or oversight. There's no grand conspiracy, but it's even more of a swamp than usual.

He has such a right, yes. But he will be an asshole for exercising it in this way.

[–] [Connelly] UNLV football preview 2019: Can Tony Sanchez get back on schedule? FranchiseCA 2 points ago in CFB

UNLV is a very tough job. They have a revolving door there; since Knap retired in '81, every coach has lasted four or five years, so more stability may be worth considering. Given that Sanchez hasn't had a one or two win season yet, it implies his players don't give up on him. He finished last year with two wins in the last three, and three of five the year before, including solid wins over Fresno in '17 and Nevada in '18. I mentioned that the Rebels had eight seasons with only one or two wins over the last two decades; none are in Sanchez's four seasons.

I understand that his record isn't impressive, so rolling the dice on someone new can be appealing. But at UNLV, the dice are loaded against you.

[–] Too soon? FranchiseCA 1 points ago in dankchristianmemes

I don't wear a cross, but let's say I had one that was a gift from a family member or close friend to commemorate my baptism, confirmation, wedding, etc.

Yes, I would probably cry. Not because it has inherent value as an object, but because it would mean something in the context of my faith.

[–] US Open Cup Second Round Draw is Tomorrow. Here's how it could look. FranchiseCA 2 points ago in USLPRO

Good job. I did this too while bored at work a couple days ago. I was going to post it in this response, but it's just not as solid; I looked at the first few times I had a different pair and liked your pick more. If I had a map in front of me, I think I'd have ended up with something similar.

I posted in r/mls about travel in the first round; the median distance is 105 miles, the mean is 222. This gets pulled way up because seven teams go over 300 miles, including a 664 mile trip (Midland-Odessa Sockers, FC Denver) and a 961 miler (Cal FC [Calabasas], Mulhouse Portland). Even though the second round has three more games, because the maps don't line up very well I expect both the median and mean travel distances to rise.

[–] A friend of mine applied to BYUH and did not get accepted. Meanwhile other students attend BYUH but don't even go to church FranchiseCA 1 points ago in latterdaysaints

I took a couple courses from Don Adolphson. He was teaching a grad course on decision analysis, and made up a bunch of vignettes of hypothetical applicants to compare and prioritize. There weren't necessarily "right" answers, the discussion and assignment were about how to weigh unrelated factors when making policies or decisions for an institution. After that lecture and assignment, he got wondering how the office actually did this, and talked to someone he knew over there. They looked over his material, made some balance changes to it, and put it into their training for new admissions officers.

[–] Darwin theory FranchiseCA 2 points ago in latterdaysaints

Frankly, the creation described by Moses and Abraham sounds very much like how a group of farmers and herders would internalize an explanation of the formation of the solar system and evolutionary processes. I don't know how much of the story of Eden is literal and how much is figurative, and that doesn't bother me. I've got some opinions, but whatever I'm wrong about--and there will be some--that's okay.
