    In 43 states, the State Attorneys General are elected by popular vote. In 5 of the remaining 7, State AGs are appointed by the governor. In TN, the State AG is appointed by the State Supreme Court. In Maine, the State AG is appointed by the legislature.

    In the US, federal and state are separate. The governor is the head of the state executive power. The president is the head of the federal executive power. It's part of the checks and balances.
