[–] 5 Things that need to change now IPlayTheTrumpet 1 points ago in redesign

I love the card view imo, but I still think the classic should be default. Mostly because I like it too and, well, it’s “classic.”

I agree with you. There’s a link right next to the title if you really want to go to the link that bad. If I click the title of the post, I think it’s logical that it go to the post itself.

Edit: To add: The title forwarding to the link has bothered me since I first got here.

[–] Marching evaluations are tomorrow. Is anyone willing to provide some tips/feedback on my roll step + posture? IPlayTheTrumpet 1 points ago in marchingband

Actually, I’m not entirely sure which way my band does it (only a freshman here), but nobody ever complained about it last season, and I’m sure I remember something about bending your leg just a little.

    Thanks for all the tips!

Thank you, I will take that into account. My assistant BD always says your knees should cross on the “and.” What exactly do you mean by “when you take a step forward your back leg bends when it comes to meet.”? Are you saying that I’m bending the back leg or not? Should it be bending?

[–] How do I even begin to approach this? It is a part of an alto sax solo in my school's marching show. IPlayTheTrumpet 5 points ago in marchingband

Take it slow first. Really slow. I’m talking like 60 bpm. Once you feel comfortable with 60, go to 65. Then, 70. And so on. When it gets to fast for you, take it back down 5 and work on it more. Keep going until you hit the necessary tempo. Then, practice over and over again.

Didn’t have enough space in the garage for eight entire steps, but I did have tape on the floor to map out exactly four step lengths. There is a metronome with the video if you enable audio.

[–] Show Announcements 2018 IPlayTheTrumpet 2 points ago in marchingband

My BD is being really secretive about it. However, there’s a chance we’ll get the music by Friday.

[–] Drill Writing Help IPlayTheTrumpet 2 points ago in marchingband

Unfortunately, there’s not much out there in terms of software that’s very cost effective. Your last resort would be printing out a bunch of these and hand writing the drill.

[–] How to ease show concerns? IPlayTheTrumpet 5 points ago in marchingband

Try to get some proof from your director that nothing offensive will be there, and then spread the word. Trust the plan not the promise.

[–] Why not use this space and do away with the slightly inconvenient drop-down menu? IPlayTheTrumpet 13 points ago in redesign

Imo the redesign is far less cramped. Look at the list of subreddits for example. On old reddit there was like 2px between them. Now it's so much more easier to read because they're spaced out.

[–] I think we have a winner IPlayTheTrumpet 32 points ago in NotMyJob

I would argue that he did his job too well.

[–] Nice guy IPlayTheTrumpet 9 points ago in Wellthatsucks

Well, on the bright side, at least he had his hazards on.

[–] What's something normalized in society you refuse to conform to? IPlayTheTrumpet -1 points ago in AskReddit

Snapchat. When people want to communicate with me, why do they have to assume I have a Snapchat account?

    “Hey what’s your Snapchat?”

Makes me so mad and I don’t know why.

[–] Oooooooo IPlayTheTrumpet 10 points ago in marchingband

The comment section on that post is gold. People don’t realize how bad that hurts.

[–] True most of the time IPlayTheTrumpet 1 points ago in funny

Kind of odd this was at an Ohio State vs Michigan game.

[–] Band Director Appreciation Post IPlayTheTrumpet 14 points ago in marchingband

Yes, agreed. Bane directors always have an enormous weight on their shoulders to get stuff done, yet they're always the nicest and most helpful people you'll ever meet.

My high school used to have the same situation as you. Two college buddies (and roommates) who got hired at the same school and worked there for over 30 years. Unfortunately, I never got to be there for it; but they worked so well together.

[–] Workout tips for a new contra player IPlayTheTrumpet 4 points ago in marchingband

Apologies for not being a contra player, but I can tell you that nothing will help you more than simply practicing holding the instrument. Get used to the weight it puts on your shoulder. Hell, when you're sitting on the couch watching TV, just stand there with the contra.
