[–] Ayn Rand Jamesshrugged 1 points ago in Objectivism

    Facebook

[–] (Archived) IamA survivor of Stalin’s Communist dictatorship and I'm back on the 100th anniversary of the Communist Revolution to answer questions. My father was executed by the secret police and I am here to discuss Communism and life in a Communist society.... Jamesshrugged 4 points ago in SurvivingSocialism

    He answered this:

Stalin’s regime caused the death of over 24,000,000 of his citizens. They killed my father and many others just for writing a letter to their family abroad. They starved millions of people during artificially created famines in order to force farmers into collective farms.

I would recommend reading “Gulag: A History” by Anne Applebaum.

He is allowed to say it, but not here. I will not allow harassment or socialist apologia here to detract from the survivors stories.

[–] Why do Ayn Rand's writings inspire cults? Jamesshrugged 1 points ago in Objectivism

I think its because Objectivism, while extremely viable in its fundamentals never coalesced into a culture of its own. That makes it ripe for abuse by cults, who can use its innate philosophy of success to inspire a following, when given a leader.

How callous can you be? His grandfather was separated from his family 4 times and died in prison away from his family for the “crime” of being a successful business owner.

Honestly I just refuse to let apologists for mass murders dictate the terms of the conversation.

I don’t care if they say “it’s not socialism” because by defending mass murderers they have zero credibility in my book.

This is an issue that we can literally bury them with a mountain of evidence. Just google “gulag survivor” “killing field survivor” etc and hundreds of stories pop up.
