Who programmed this? Near textures should be loaded before distant ones.

[–] THIS is why you go on Fox and reach out to their viewers. THIS is how you win. Feel. The. BERN. Bernie2020 LaughingVergil 1 points ago in Political_Revolution

Of course, that poll was taken before Bernie's town hall, so it has no relevance to whether or not his town hall helped him in Fox voters' eyes.

[–] Was there a scientific reason behind the decision to take a picture of this particular black hole instead of another one ? LaughingVergil 12 points ago in askscience

In most cases, it will present as a gassy planet, since 10x Earth's gravity is sufficient to keep most of the hydrogen on the planet. Earth had a lot more hydrogen back near it's formation, but the relatively light gravity and high early temperatures let most of the free hydrogen gas escape into space.

    Same for helium.

I can't tell for sure - it's either r/WTF, r/science, or r/blackpeopletwitter -- unless it's one of the dozen or so others I saw him in.

Edit: Of course, if I look at the CORRECT PERSON'S PROFILE, I might have a different opinion. Sorry about that.

[–] Telstra blocks access to 4chan, 8chan, LiveLeak in Australia LaughingVergil 0 points ago in worldnews

This is an interesting question, but it really isn't a net neutrality question.

This video has been banned in NZ, as I understand it. Legally, it can't be shown in the country. So rather than waiting for government direction, the ISPs and telcos acted as good citizens to ensure that the law is not being violated via their infrastructure.

Different countries behave differently on questions of good citizenship. This is how they do it in NZ. It's not necessarily what I prefer as a US citizen, but it also isn't the US. Personally, I wouldn't go out looking this up, but as long as it was legal, I don't want to ban it from my country.

[–] 26 women rescued at Seattle massage parlors in human trafficking bust LaughingVergil 2 points ago in news

There is a huge difference between human trafficking and simple prostitution.

Simple prostitution is an economic choice made by a person to improve their income, possibly made in conjunction with other emotional reasons. They can stop prostitution whenever they choose to, and can reject sexual acts if they so desire.

Human trafficking is forcing people to do a job, often based on promises of a different job. They are required to continue performing whatever job they are directed to do on threats of violence, often forced into addiction for additional control, and are not allowed to choose what things they will do. They also don't receive the money paid for their service.

Also, human trafficking is not always about prostitution, although it usually is.

I am against humanity trafficking, and support people in their economic choices, as long as they don't harm other people.

Edit: no one garms anyone else.
