Any sources? I'm very curious, you're just delivering many historical statements I've never heard from anyone else before. Also, do you have a direction you're going here, i.e. what's your main point with all of this?

Interesting that this isn't the common view on WWII then. Do you know why the view I just falsely stated as fact is so often espoused? Also how do you feel about the accusations that Hitler was dealing with a methamphetamine problem at the time?

Agreed! I'm just glad most English speaking countries are on mostly good terms. I'm so glad we aren't fighting with each other like they do in the middle east or whatever. I know folks have good reasons to hate us in the US, and of course many countries have reasons to hate the UK, but it's nice to know that if an asteroid ever hit we would probably be working together rather than fighting. I'm down to do some disaster relief in any place that wont be upset I'm a white guy who only speaks English, and I'd be fuckin' thrilled to see any kind of disaster relief come here if we ever got fucked. I really wish I was in a position to come help ya'll with the fires, but it looks like I might be fighting our own in California next summer.

Also, the American British colonies started shipping in slaves from Africa, after watching the Spanish do the same, and they were somewhat cheaper than convicts from Europe after the routes were well established, and also didn't get set free after a certain amount of logged labor, but rather were considered permanent property, and thus a smart investment, rather than a temporary labor solution that eventually became a "freed criminal."

Reminds me of Hitler. Who knows what would have happened had he listened to his generals, been patient, and not fucked with Russia in the winter. It's a good thing crazy ambitious men often overstep their bounds.

Edit: I didn't mean to compare England's colonial expansion to Hitler's ambitions on a moral level, just in a tactical foolishness sense. Still though, both expansions of industrial success were very comparable!

Wish I knew where this was. I am assuming Alberta, but I also have barely a clue what I'm talking about.

Which in turn only happened because of the south seas financial bubble failing, Britain losing a huge money source, and piling taxes on what they presumed to be a wildly profitable frontier, that wasn't nearly as much of a goldmine than they thought. If they had been more gentle with taxation the US might not have rebelled. Thankfully we got back to the point where we are all friendly cousins again!

Hell's going to be great! All the drugs, some of the best musicians and entertainers, most of the dope ass gay folks, it'll be the greatest party ever! The only real problem with hell will be dealing with combative young terrorists and the westboro baptist church!

Is this coal, or tar sands, or a gravel mine? What am I looking at

[–] Hmmm. I thought the carbide would chip before the whole end breaks off. Leaf_Rotator 4 points ago in Machinists

Yeah, that's quite the gap there at the back end of the carbide. Would've concentrated all the tensile forces on that one spot.

[–] What early game, money making tips would you give a total newbie? (Warband on PS4) Leaf_Rotator 1 points ago in mountandblade

Thanks! I was thinking maybe metal and oil provided some benefit beyond income. Haven't been playing this game long.

Why would a metal/oil works making 400 be preferable to a dyeworks making 500? Or do you just go with whichever business is actually higher after checking?

I love dogs a lot, but they shouldn't be outliving people. RIP

[–] TIL in 1960, an Australian father won nearly $3 million (adjusted AU$) in the lottery, with his picture getting plastered all over the news. Shortly after, his 8-year-old son was kidnapped for ransom and eventually murdered. This changed anonymity laws for lottery winners in Australia forever. Leaf_Rotator 111 points ago * (lasted edited 2 days ago) in todayilearned

I've heard that when all the winners are anonymous many people will think no one is winning, so they do this to "prove" someone is actually getting the money. The people who would think that way though sound kind of dense, so I definitely don't think we should cater to them. Aslo that just might be a shitty excuse, and they just consider this advertising.

Thanks man! Had a really rough day at the shop. Your words mean a lot!
