[–] Anyone here easily cut off friends? MadDogTannen 2 points ago in intj

Occasionally I will cut people off, but most of my friendships die of neglect. I'm terrible at initiating communication or plans, so unless my friends are doing most of the legwork at maintaining the relationship, the connection usually fades away.

I don't see friends as tools, but I do see them as situational. If I meet someone through a certain activity, I generally won't expand the friendship into other areas of my life, I'll keep it confined to that activity. If I stop doing that activity, the friendship usually goes with it. I don't really have general purpose friends.

[–] Take her out’: recording appears to capture Trump at private dinner saying he wants Ukraine ambassador fired MadDogTannen 11 points ago in politics

She wasn't fired for talking badly about the president, she was fired for pushing back against the president's corrupt behavior, which makes her GOOD at her job. As Americans, we want diplomats who are acting in the interest of America, and not for the corrupt personal interests of the president. You're ignoring the very necessary context that the president was abusing his power by withholding aid to a vulnerable ally in order to extract personal political favors that run counter to the interests of the American people and America's national security.

The problem in this case is that she didn't "suck at her job", she was fired for disloyalty to a president who was abusing his power. Trump didn't get rid of her because of her poor job performance, he got rid of her because she wasn't down with his blatant corruption.

[–] Opinion | Why Democrats Still Have to Appeal to the Center, but Republicans Don’t MadDogTannen 7 points ago in politics

Also, the GOP has actively courted the dumbest, most impressionable people in the country, and pumped them full of propaganda for years. They'll literally believe anything they're told to believe.

The defense will be "this is fake news" until it's proven true, and then they'll say "yeah, but it doesn't mean anything. He was just joking around, and besides, he has the right to do whatever he wants, so get over it".

[–] Chicken Thighs 165F/1.5Hr the pan seared. MadDogTannen 1 points ago in sousvide

I totally agree, I see no reason to sous vide chicken thighs because they're so forgiving and easy to cook in other ways. I usually braise my chicken thighs on the stove top. Sometimes I'll add some uncooked rice in the pan while it's braising so the rice can absorb all of the delicious flavor from the chicken.

[–] Joe Biden Gets Emotional Describing How Late Son Beau Who Died of Brain Cancer 'Walks with' Him on Campaign Trail — "He still grabs me by the lapel every time I walk out [on the debate stage]," Joe Biden said MadDogTannen 6 points ago in politics

    This can't be overstated.

It really can't. The best way to combat this strategy is to point it out wherever you see it. Downvote divisive comments and remind people that this divisive messaging is coming from Russia for the purposes of dividing the coalition that needs to come together to beat Trump. When democrats are divided, it's Trump who benefits.

Not every toxic supporter of Bernie's is a Russian troll, but many probably are. Others are real people that the propaganda has worked on, or they're simply people whose tribal instincts have gotten the better of them. Either way, it's important to be skeptical about the sources of divisive messaging, especially online, because we know there is an active campaign by nefarious elements to divide democrats to help Trump win.

[–] Sanders tells supporters to cool it — but they don’t always listen MadDogTannen 1 points ago in politics

At this point, I would expect every campaign to have Russian trolls posing as their supporters and spreading divisive messages. Bernie's anti-establishment platform makes him a good fault line for divisive messaging to capitalize on, but I bet every campaign has disingenuous trolls trying to make their supporters look bad.

PAC's and Russia. The Mueller Report specifically says that posing as Bernie supporters was part of Russia's strategy in 2016.

[–] Impeachment: Democrats reject witness swap in Trump trial MadDogTannen 5 points ago in politics

The whole point of Trump's Ukraine shenanigans (if you ignore the benefit to Russia of withholding the aid to Ukraine) was to smear and damage his political rival, Joe Biden. If Republicans are given a chance to smear Joe and Hunter Biden during the impeachment proceedings that are supposed to be holding Trump accountable for abusing his power, wouldn't that just be rewarding Trump by giving him exactly what he was trying to accomplish with the abuse of power he's on trial for?

Trump and the GOP think they're so clever, but it's completely transparent what they're trying to do.

[–] The usefulness of “Stand-up classes” MadDogTannen 3 points ago in StandUpComedy

I've seen plenty of people offer comedy classes, they're all people I've never heard of. Until Seinfeld or Attell offer comedy courses I'm not interested.

Eh, I don't know about this logic. Guitar lessons are pretty valuable even though the greats like Eddie Van Halen and John Frusciante aren't the ones offering them.

[–] The usefulness of “Stand-up classes” MadDogTannen 5 points ago in StandUpComedy

I'm a procrastinator, so the most useful thing about taking a class for me was having writing deadlines that forced me to actually sit down and prepare a set. The actual instruction was pretty worthless.

I like the Era a lot better than 510. I've never had a leaky pod with my Era, but the 510's seemed to leak quite a bit.
