[–] One party protects our gun rights; one does not Maimonides_vii 3 points ago in Libertarian

Why the need for hostility? It's entirely possible given that it's reddit the person didn't read the article. And what they said is correct; the party that protects gun rights doesn't consistently apply the same principles to other issues.

You likely won't find many Libertarians on board with forcing banks to do business (or not do business) with any group. It wouldn't surprise me if you found a ton of people that agree with it on /r/Libertarian , but that doesn't mean it's a Libertarian philosophy.

    There's a concept of "Externalities"

a side effect or consequence of an industrial or commercial activity that affects other parties without this being reflected in the cost of the goods or services involved, such as the pollination of surrounding crops by bees kept for honey.

Most people are familiar with "negative externalities". A prime example of that would be a business that is directly harming the environment. In a perfect world, consumers could choose to never deal with companies dong such harmful practices, but that's not often feasible. The damage done to the environment has a cost, but not a monetary one.

An example of a "positive externality" would be building a lighthouse. If I build one, it would be great to charge every ship that uses it. Unfortunately, once it's built, that becomes very difficult. It's not providing a positive service, but at no cost to the consumer.

I didn't actually answer the OP in terms of who should / shouldn't regulate these things, but I think agreeing on common language and making sure everyone has a clear understanding of what we're talking about is important.

[–] Do right-libertarians think that the estate tax should be 100% since leaving money to your children is just a handout? Maimonides_vii 1 points ago in Libertarian

After some thought, my reasoning would be that you aren't owning at after you're dead, but passing it on to your children, etc. It would be no different than saying a person cannot give away money. I should be able to give what is mine to someone else. It shouldn't matter if I give it away 10 minutes before I die or sign a document that legally gives it away 10 minutes after I die.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply right-wing libertarians were the majority or minority. Just meant that suggesting "handouts" are immoral isn't an accurate representation of a Libertarian stance.

I disagree with "you can't steal from the dead," but I'd need to think on how to explain why. Surprisingly just haven't seen that argument presented before.

Wouldn't this imply that all Libertarians are opposed to charity of any kind? I think that's pretty clearly not the case, and also why Libertarians would generally not agree with a 100% estate tax: "handouts" aren't immoral, only stealing money from one person to give it to another. Someone willing their possessions to another (either through death or giving charity) is fine.

[–] I did a mock draft thing Maimonides_vii 5 points ago in steelers

I'm a huge Hock fan. I get it's not what most people think we need, but IMO getting a guy who should start day 1 for us at TE, and could last us a decade, would be great. He's a great blocker, which is something we haven't had since Heath, and I would take him over Fant in a heartbeat. Not as "flashy", but a solid all-around player.

Yeah, at least /u/Maimonides_vii is handsome.

Seriously? I get re-posting the original joke, but this has gone too far.
