My bad, I read that as you defending their view. That's terrible about your wife, I hope she found a much better job soon after.

Punish them? They're literally handed millions of dollars. It's not about punishing anyone, it's about treating student interests equally and not depriving those who don't care about football with a good education/extracurricular activity.

I appreciate your sentiment but ignoring those kids and finding companions was the best method for me. I'm a perfectly capable and confident adult now so although that might not have been the best solution to you, it worked for me.

You assume I'm a man haha ok. What terrible logic, really. Yes let me hang out with my bullies and endure more psychological torment than I was already receiving. The library had plenty of kids for me to befriend and enjoy spending time with. Just because I didn't force myself to spend time around kids who were cunts didn't make me a coward. I chose to stick with people who encouraged me to excel and encouraged my interests. G'day.

That's not true at all. It's not just about the books, our library had numerous computers and study areas for group projects and kids to work together outside of the classroom. The library was open until several hours after school ended, so kids with a home that wasn't good for schoolwork could have a place to access computers and a quiet workspace.

Not to mention the library staff are so helpful when kids need to do research. And to assume that libraries are worthless just because some people prefer a PDF is just ignorant. I still love a good book to read, and so do millions of other people.

The library gave kids like me (socially awkward and often bullied) a safety net in high school to make friends and to feel comfortable nerding out. We were allowed to eat lunch at the tables too, which was amazing for a kid like me who had no seat in the cafeteria unless I wanted to eat alone at the end of a table full of kids with friends.

Edited to add, there is a smaller library in a new location, but it severely lacks the accessibility and space of the previous one.

How am I a liar? I didn't say there isn't a library anymore, they moved it to another spot in the school, it's much more cramped now and not nearly as useful as it was before. The previous library had awesome spots for students to study and work on projects during study hall, very much like a college library. Calm yourself.

Oh definitely. Our elementary schools look like they haven't changed since 1962. They clearly don't care about all students, just the ones that make the district look good when they win football games and bring in hefty cash.

We are in a wealthy Philly main line area, the school is a relatively good school as well. There's definitely no severe budget needs. They could have just built a new gym annex if it was so necessary. Two massive remodels in ten years does not sound like a broke school district.

Pennsylvania actually. The worst part is that library was basically brand new! They built it in 2001, it had a wall of huge windows and an awesome computer lab. I spent my whole 4 years in there pretty much, the decision to make it a weight-lifting/training gym happened after I graduated.

That's what's also fucked, it's not a gym for all students to use, it's a gym for the football team to train in :)

I don't mind spending the extra dollars on smaller water brands, because fuck Nestle and fuck Coca-Cola.

Hopefully not a penny goes to my old high school. They turned the beautiful library into a gym and cut art and music programs to build a massive football stadium.

Edit*** ok wow I didn't expect this comment to explode! I'm not saying I don't think a good athletics program isn't important folks, my problem is that it's going straight to the boy's football team and not much elsewhere.

A bit of backstory, in 2001 the school used tax money to build a multimillion dollar stadium, but they ALSO built that awesome library at the same time. Fair enough, right? Well I'm guessing that big stadium brought in enough money to do the big remodel that happened around 2011. However, they cut a shit load of arts, music, language and drama programs while I was in high school between 2005 and 2009. Then they go and turn that sick af library and computer lab into a fucking gym. We already had 3 gyms, including a soft floor wrestling gym that was put in during that first remodel.

So here's the boy's football team getting bathed in money, yet the girls' teams and the less popular boy sports teams are out begging for money along the roads every weekend during their seasons as fundraisers. It's not okay to lift up one tiny, tiny percentage of students but ignore the rest of the population. They also cut a lot of AP science and language programs too, that's not cool! I had to go from French III to French V Honors because they cut languages and didn't have enough teachers for every level. That sucked, I struggled keeping up with the more advanced students but I really wanted to learn French and I'd already devoted several years to it.

Just because some kids might not be interested in science, languages or music, doesn't mean you should punish the ones who are. We're all in school to learn and develop interests that will build us into adults, how can all kids do this if they're blocked from participating in things they're interested in?

Yeah how dare she not be interested in a 53 year old man. Sexual attraction is important in a relationship, it doesn't make you shallow to turn someone down due to looks. A poor sex life doesn't benefit either party and who would want to be with someone that isn't attracted to them?

That stupid live camera option on Facebook when you swipe left. As someone with mild motor ticks, especially with my hands, I'm constantly opening that fucking camera by accident. If I see that dancing guy one more time I'm going to do nothing and probably still accidentally open that camera a thousand more times.

[–] People of reddit who work the day shift at non-haunted businesses and don't spend all your time in the woods, what's the creepiest thing you've experienced? Mythologicalcats 5 points ago in AskReddit

I pet sit at a house twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. The parents work all day and the children are primary school age, so rarely does anyone come home early. They have an alarm which I turn off during the first visit and I do not turn back on because it doesn't always do an exit delay like it should. I can always tell when the parents have stopped by because the alarm will be set again when I come back for the afternoon visit. The only other visitors they might get are the cleaners, but it's obvious when they've been there due to the smell of cleaning solutions and the house being much tidier.

So basically I came back to this house for the second visit one time and their huge wooden kitchen table was moved halfway across the house. It was not moved when I was there in the morning, and the alarm wasn't set so I know the homeowners did not come home at all. The floors had dog hair and shoe scuffs all over so the cleaners did not come. It freaked me the hell out and the next day the table was put back and nothing said about it. It was definitely really weird though

Are those his kids too then? Come on OP, don't be sexist. If you're going to call the mom out for this, you might as well call the dad out too.
