[–] Does anyone need to move their stuff between Berlin and London? NEWSBOT3 3 points ago in berlin

it was ~ 18 months back so sadly not, but i think i just used something like https://www.anyvan.com/ or one of the other sites that lets you post jobs for men with vans, and his was towards the lower end of offers.

[–] Does anyone need to move their stuff between Berlin and London? NEWSBOT3 4 points ago in berlin

in case you want to reduce costs, when i moved i just found a man with van service and he brought my stuff (half a big van or so) for 150 euro. Coulda joined him on the trip over as well if i'd wanted to.

you might not trust that and want to use a more expensive service, which is fine, but just giving you the option.

[–] Is there anything good or positive happening in the UK right now? NEWSBOT3 2 points ago in unitedkingdom

yeah like i say it's not as british centered as i'd prefer, but it's a start.

there are a few subreddits you can keep an eye on like /r/upliftingnews /r/humansbeingbros and so on.

they are a bit 'murican focused, but they do tend to stick to the more positive stuff.

[–] Coming from a country where we pay 2EUR for 30 to 50GB in 4G speeds /month (Romania), the prices for internet here are absolutely crazy. NEWSBOT3 3 points ago in germany

Tell me about it, i maintain 3 internet connections (1 DSL, 2 LTE) at home so that i can have semi-reliable video calls to my fiancee in another country, and even then about 20% of the time we have to give up and switch to voice calls.

[–] Do you use AWS XRay in Production? NEWSBOT3 3 points ago in aws

about to - optimising performance of Lambdas and checking whether the slowdowns we see are located, could be in the external services we call, or the lambda startup times, we don't know yet. Will find out soon.

[–] Thursday complaints department (19th September) NEWSBOT3 32 points ago in CasualUK

    oh, another one.

Work pays for friday lunch and it was suggested we go to a place for friday lunch that has a particularly tasty selection of steamed pork buns. Great, thinks me.

ten mins later, some fucker decides that no, there's a climate change protest on and we should go to that instead.

so now i'm the fucker who would rather eat tasty steamed pork buns than go to a climate change protest during the workday.

    fucking Berlin.

[–] Thursday complaints department (19th September) NEWSBOT3 4 points ago in CasualUK

my past self, for being nice and lending my work access card to a colleague yesterday, and forgetting to get it back.

cue 20 mins of anxiety this morning as i can't get into the building and these fuckers charge 40 euro per access card (i'm not directly employed here, so it's legal).

[–] First time travelling abroad NEWSBOT3 4 points ago in CasualUK

make sure you know the travel rules - particularly with flying you can't just take anything across, depending how you are getting there. Airline/airport websites normally tell you in detail. Same for ferry/train/whatever.

you can get very cheap travel insurance (google moneysaving expert cheap travel insurance, they have guides to it). Do so.

you need an EHIC card to ensure you have healthcare abroad. If you don't have one you are probably out of time to get one, so try your best not to ill/injured while you are there.

travel insurance won't cover stuff if you were drunk.

have a look at the steam labs link in the store - there's a decent recommendations feature in there that bases it off your most played games.
