[–] Is Netflix's "You" a hipster version of Showtime's "Dexter"? OVEIDPTVZSEU 13 points ago in television

It's similar in ways. But to me You is about romance and what you can get away with in relationships if you're a beautiful white dude more than anything else. With Dexter Morgan, killing is the point. With Joe, it's love. Or rather, pop culture's bastardized version of it which he has internalized. That's enough to separate them for me.

You is a critique or satire of rom-coms as a television show, taken to the extreme.

[–] ‘Vida’ Gets Aprl. 26 Season 3 Premiere Date, First-Look Trailer OVEIDPTVZSEU 3 points ago in television

    I'm a little bummed Season 3 will only consist of 6 episodes after a 10-episode 2nd season

[–] Epix war of the worlds is just... terrible OVEIDPTVZSEU 2 points ago in television

Wrong adaptation, this is not the BBC version. It had a sizable budget

[–] Epix war of the worlds is just... terrible OVEIDPTVZSEU -1 points ago in television

None, and there is no reason. Some people have trouble understanding how TV shows are distributed and want to project their ignorance on the rest of us. It seems to happen every time a show like this is mentioned here.

[–] why has it been so difficult for big tv stars to become big movie stars? OVEIDPTVZSEU 1 points ago in television

That's a good question, one I don't have an answer to. But you're right, it's a curious dynamic. I'll say though, right now movie stars are seemingly becoming less of a thing. The big-budget films that movie stars used to front aren't being made anymore. In their place are Marvel movies and the like, and they could put anyone in those costumes. And filling in the gaps is TV and an ever shrinking line separating movies and TV, traditional release methods vs streaming.

I thought it was decent. Not great, not terrible. I've heard it's worlds better than last fall's BBC version though.

[–] 'Stumptown' Likely To Be Canceled: Renew/Cancel Predictions OVEIDPTVZSEU 2 points ago in television

Watch it still. It's good. And this prediction could easily be wrong.

[–] 'Stumptown' Likely To Be Canceled: Renew/Cancel Predictions OVEIDPTVZSEU 9 points ago in television

That person is wrong, Stumptown is good. That, Evil and Emergence are the best broadcast dramas I've seen in maybe five years, and Stumptown is my favorite of the three.

...and El Chapo was a fan.

That bit was my point there. These guys love Narcos. It's worth wondering why that is.

We keep elevating their stories in the culture. We've made them celebrities. We love to watch their rise and fall and power games.

One is a harsh critique of the drug trade, made explicitly to do so, and the other is a big-budget shiny thing glamorizing it. The Narcos actor who plays El Chapo showed up at a court trial for the real El Chapo and the two shared a smile and a nod.

[–] Zoë Kravitz is the highlight of High Fidelity (Hulu)! OVEIDPTVZSEU 3 points ago in television

Everyone was good, but she really did stand out. She's phenomenal.

[–] If ABC cancels Stumptown... OVEIDPTVZSEU 1 points ago in television

But a 3-year run on streaming is a 1-year run on broadcast. Netflix won't go past season 3 or 4, but they'll still give most good shows a 2nd season (at least).

And the average age of broadcast primetime is high 50s-mid 60s. This isn't the social media generation.
