[–] Space Wolves are reading Codex Astartes by Kakomicly ObsidianOrangutan 1 points ago in Warhammer40k

Re the terminators there's also the limitations of supply of the more specialised weapons to consider.

[–] Eye of Terror Pict-Captured for First Time - The Regimental Standard ObsidianOrangutan 9 points ago in 40kLore

Funny, I just see my high school gym teachers screaming face melting into a mountain of bird skulls, same old same old

[–] Interlude: Death They Cannot Steal ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in PracticalGuideToEvil

nah, making heroes immortal would go against all the stuff they have about natural order and humility, individual humans can't become that important

[–] Interlude: Death They Cannot Steal ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in PracticalGuideToEvil

They also both live in the darkness beneath the earth

[–] The Definition of Neoliberalism defined by Milton Friedman in 1951. ObsidianOrangutan 1 points ago in neoliberal

I think he probably overestimated how much competition on its own could do,and underestimated how much regulation is necessary to deal with systemic problems. For example the US health care market is on paper very competitive, but also deeply inefficient and bad for consumers.

[–] I like to design stupid products for fun so I created blinds for my sunglasses ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in funny

So do you make actual physical prototypes for the useless inventions or is it image manipulation?

[–] The Foreshadowing in the First Few HH Novels is Hilarious. ObsidianOrangutan 21 points ago in 40kLore

Obviously needs an old style Marvel note from the editor saying "LOOK AT THE SPACE MARINE CODEX TO LEARN MORE!"

At least with Magnus you could interpret it as psychic premonitions rather than just very heavy foreshadowing

[–] Irish people out here going, "We wuz SLAVES" ObsidianOrangutan 3 points ago in stupidpol

Also indentured servitude wasn't unique to the Irish, it was a standard punishment for British criminals

[–] It’s all led to this ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in TrollXChromosomes

It's not female presenting text though

I had the same thing cutting down on caffeine, guess the body gets used to it

[–] Islam is a growing social force in Britain’s second city ObsidianOrangutan 0 points ago in neoliberal

Most of the opposition to gay marriage in the UK came from Conservative Christians rather than Muslims. Muslims get more attention because they don't dress up their homophobia in euphemism the same way. There's also a class element (as with so many things in the UK), an upper class caracature like Jacob Rees Mogg can get airtime for his hardcore conservative veiws and is still treated as "respectable" in a way that less educated, poorer immigrant communities aren't.

[–] STEMlord destroys Liberal Arts major with FACTS and LOGIC ObsidianOrangutan 1 points ago in neoliberal

"This hadith can actually be interpreted in 46 different ways due to the idiomatic use of...." "Sorry professor, but when do we get to the virgins?"

[–] STEMlord destroys Liberal Arts major with FACTS and LOGIC ObsidianOrangutan 1 points ago in neoliberal

Like, how do you function day to day as a politician without knowing what political science is? Where do you think your opinion polls come from? Who is advising you?

[–] The NHS explains the problem with not having a pricing mechanism to allocate scarce resources. ObsidianOrangutan 1 points ago in neoliberal

A functional free market requires customers to have sufficient information to make an informed choice, and free choice in the products they buy, none of which are present in healthcare.

[–] WTF I love Donald Trump now, thanks for letting in more immigrants!! ObsidianOrangutan 3 points ago in neoliberal

I think he believes that Democrats don't really want immigrants astound them deep down, or are unaware of the real impact of immigration. (they're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists). So by forcing them to live among them he exposes that hypocrisy and owns the libs

[–] How YIMBY are you? ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in neoliberal

There's lots of empirical evidence that green space is good for people's mental health. You can have both dense population and greenspace anyway in an efficient way. Don't have gardens for every house and instead have public parks next to massive apartment blocks.

[–] I know this sub doesn’t like the Republican Party, but what about moderate Republicans? ObsidianOrangutan 4 points ago in neoliberal

Unfortunately all these supposedly principled republicans are suspiciously silent on Trump's abuses of power. Which makes their principles fairly suspect

[–] Moments when writers go meta? ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in 40kLore

I think it's in Vengeful Spirit but I'm not sure, Horus says that the universe is a melodrama and there is no way the heresy ends other than with a climactic duel between him and the emperor.

This may also be totally true in universe, since we know the power of belief can make things real, there could be a similar effect forcing things to behave in a narratively appropriate way

[–] How would the Primarchs react to encountering a scared child? ObsidianOrangutan 3 points ago in 40kLore

Curze: I keep telling the child, if I wanted to kill it then it would be dead before it even knew I was there. Doesn't seem to be helping.
