[–] People from Liverpool are thieves ObsidianOrangutan 136 points ago in CasualUK

    Full quote:

But Edinburgh is a mad god's dream

    Fitful and dark,

    Unseizable in Leith

    And wildered by the Forth,

    But irresistibly at last

    Cleaving to sombre heights

    Of passionate imagining

    Till stonily,

    From soaring battlements,

    Earth eyes Eternity.

Knowing this administration they'll just make sure the kids don't have paper

Is banning meme war posts an option?

[–] EVEN PANZEEZ WANT MOAR DAKKA ObsidianOrangutan 3 points ago in Grimdank

Convergent evolution, they need to be able to make precise changes in direction of a gun to aim it, and an arm like appendage is well designed to do that, compared to one attached to the main trunk of the body. (think of the difference between using a handheld torch and a headlamp).

Also different bioweapons can be used by the same base tyranod creature, so it seems like their growth is modular to some extent, presumably making it simpler for the hive to mass produce them.

Are they celibate? Pretty sure they can have normal relationships, just not let it descend into slanneshi fuckery

Thanks for the measured approach. The meme war was getting very annoying

[–] What did a fictional character say that stuck with you? ObsidianOrangutan 293 points ago in AskReddit

The question,’ she replied, ‘is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You cannot pick the destination, only the path.

Strength does not make one capable of rule; it makes one capable of service.

The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon.

Came here to say that. One of the best series I've read for getting into the alien mindset of non human characters

[–] Are the theories, techniques, skills, etc. taught by PUA all that bad? ObsidianOrangutan 6 points ago in MensLib

I think of it as the social equivalent of alternative/tradirional medicine. Some of the solutions work well, but the theory behind them isn't true, (this herb lowers your fever because of the chemicals in it, not because its rebalncing your chi) and they sometimes will lead you to bad conclusions (snorting rhino horn, treating cancer with garlic).

PUA was less toxic when it originally started, but seems to have been entirely subsumed by the alt right now. A good book that takes the good and non creepy parts of PUA theory and explains them, along with the movement is "Confessions of a pickup artist chaser" by clarisee thorn, which also serves as a good dating 101 book.

[–] If Corax hates tyrants so much, why did he love the emperor? ObsidianOrangutan 3 points ago in 40kLore

Before the heresy Curze and to a lesser extent angron are in the category of "I don't like being told what to do, but I'll play along as it enables me to have fun the way I like it"

[–] If Corax hates tyrants so much, why did he love the emperor? ObsidianOrangutan 2 points ago in 40kLore

3 and 4 seem to overlap. It's saying that they don't think the emperor is good "inherently" but that of the options available to humanity he seems the best for now. The difference is more in how grudging that admission is

[–] If Corax hates tyrants so much, why did he love the emperor? ObsidianOrangutan 118 points ago in 40kLore

    Thanks for the quote.

Framed that way it feels a lot like brainwashing

His audience isn't them but the people in the audience who are really into the royal family. He acts as a placeholder for them
