[–] Resveratrol increases anti-aging Klotho gene expression via the activating transcription factor 3/c-Jun complex-mediated signaling pathway Pricefield- 3 points ago in longevity

So you'd rather be lazy, sit on your ass, and pay for something that 99% doesn't work rather than actually exercise and do something that more likely actually keeps you healthy? I mean...the logic here is astounding.

[–] This would forever change labeling culture tubes Pricefield- 3 points ago in labrats

It's supposed to pick up the labels and apply them instead of manually peeling and applying them each time. It's supposed to speed up labeling, but only if you're using dot labels.

I've never used one in the lab, but I could get you in contact with a rep that knows more about them than me. (full disclosure, I help market for a company that works with Scinomix)

They make automated tube labelers (scinomix.com is one place you can find these)

Small correction: it's mechanistic target of rapamycin now (they changed it a few years back because it's not just found in mammals).

[–] Greta’s global warming conference cancelled. Sponsored by the International Global Warming Trust was cancelled today in Michigan as temperatures dipped below -50 degrees F. Experts were quick to dispel the notion that low temperatures meant that their theory of global warming was incorrect. Pricefield- -1 points ago in Conservative

I don't think you actually read what that "Ice caps are growing" article said at all. Here's a passage, in case you weren't aware of what exactly you just posted about:

"According to climate models, rising global temperatures should cause sea ice in both regions to shrink. But observations show that ice extent in the Arctic has shrunk faster than models predicted, and in the Antarctic it has been growing slightly."

Even for a set of lungs, that color isn't half bad for a smoker.

[–] Looking for a longevity doctor in SoCal Pricefield- 2 points ago in longevity

I used to fucking study aging. My PhD is about yeast chronological lifespan. You might have read some of my papers, for all you know. Unless you have similar experience, then it looks like you're the bumbling idiot.

[–] Looking for a longevity doctor in SoCal Pricefield- 0 points ago in longevity

Your question only strengthens my case. "Potentially" beneficial is just that, a maybe, and prescription drugs are prescription for a reason, as they can have serious side effects. Until someone shows me evidence that pre-emptively taking metforming all your life is both safe and effective at increasing overall lifespan (good luck performing a series of clinical trials that last 80-100 years each), then yes, it's fucking stupid. I don't ingest any drugs, INCLUDING alcohol, unless absolutely necessary. I don't even like taking antibiotics for infections unless the doctor explicitly says I need them.

[–] Looking for a longevity doctor in SoCal Pricefield- 3 points ago in longevity

Do you know the dosage required to have any effect on lifespan? No, no one does. So until then, you're taking meds with possible adverse effects for no good reason, and metformin DOES have adverse effects.

[–] Looking for a longevity doctor in SoCal Pricefield- 3 points ago in longevity

Stupidest shit I've ever heard. Please don't take drugs for no good reason. They haven't been tested for that use, and taking something like that long-term is not a good idea without any safety studies to show what the effects are.

Shameless self-promotion here, but if anyone wants to try a science-based Dan Lebatardian podcast in the meantime, I started one up here: anchor.fm/scipodity

We're having a guy on next week who works with prairie voles and the neurobiology of love, and we're doing a "pop culture quiz" thing with him, similar to what Dan does with Marc Stein.

[–] Hey guys, remember when Sam stole his father's cherished valyrian steel sword for absolutely no fucking reason? Pricefield- 0 points ago in freefolk

I've received too many messages about this (I honestly thought this post would be like a 50 upvote thing), but I'm going to respond to you because why the hell not. I agree not everything needs to be tied together, that's fine. The point I'm making is that there are SO many things from previous seasons that weren't closed off at all, and this is like a drop in the bucket of "oh hey, I remember that one too!" It seemed like a pivotal thing at the time, but even Sam going against his father ultimately meant nothing in the end. The entire plot device was useless in the grand scheme of S8, like so many other threads, left dangling along the way. This post is actually a ripoff of another one someone made using a different plot point. I could keep making these all day long, and that reflects poorly on those cunt writers who ruined GoT for everyone.

[–] Podcast Notes (Full Summary) | Dr. David Sinclair on The Theory of Aging, NAD+ Boosters (NR and NMN), Sirtuins, and More - FoundMyFitness with Dr. Rhonda Patrick Pricefield- -1 points ago in longevity

He advocates for the use of drugs that haven't been properly tested in humans for the things they're purported to do. He bases his ideas on mouse models of longevity, which isn't a great idea when taking drugs. There's no pharmacovigilance, and he'll accept no blame if something goes wrong for someone who takes a drug and has an adverse reaction. He does it all to sell goddamn books and act popular. He cares a lot more about making money than actual science.
