Germany made them. They were called Paratrooper knives but there is unfortunately no proof of them being issued to paratroopers

[–] What's a TV series that everyone should give a go? RistaRicky 1 points ago in AskReddit

Warehouse-13, Battlestar Galactica, the Blacklist, Firefly, Castle, the Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Burn Notice.

I’ve never looked it up but I’m certain someone from the creative team from the first couple seasons was in the military... the conversations and stereotypes are just too spot-on. Every squad has a Griff, a Simmons and a Donut.

[–] [WTS] Novelty Paratrooper Knife RistaRicky 1 points ago in Knife_Swap

So the urban legend is because it completely encases the blade in the handle, meaning it can’t come unbuttoned and come out on a jump. It was to give paratroopers a fixed blade knife (when opened, the mechanism makes it a fixed blade with no way of closing on your fingers) without the risk of it coming out of the sheath and stabbing you accidentally.

Sauce: I like novelty knives and showed one to my granddad, who was 82nd in Korea. I don’t think he actually ever got issued one either but knew that much about it.

My grandfather was a deck gunner in the Navy in WWII. I hadn’t seen him since I was about 14, and like yours, he never shared any stories with me when I was younger.

About a year ago, I finally got to see him and spend time with him and my uncle (a veteran of the Rangers and SF). I had clocked 4 deployments between Iraq, Afghanistan and ‘Other’, and it was amazing the feeling of camaraderie I had with these men I had known my whole life who hadn’t opened up about their experiences but shared a bond with me now.

[–] “Who told you to do that? Ruckle!” RistaRicky 4 points ago in MilitaryStories

If you answered yes, this must be your first Ruckle story

These are great. It’s like watching the dumbest pvt I ever had get in a train wreck in slow motion. And the train has chlamydia. I vote for Ruckle’s Evaluation next

Good luck. Don’t take the assholes in the funny brown hats intimidate you with loud noises - it’s important to establish dominance early.

    Am Cav. Can confirm.

[–] What a piece of shit RistaRicky 6 points ago in WhitePeopleTwitter

Genetics was not my friend, and when I joined the military my hairline never really recovered from the boot camp buzz cut. It was either look like captain Picard in my early twenties or go full vin diesel, and being to young to impersonate PatStew I went with the latter. It’s liberating - you should try it!

I’m voting for the Ruckle training an augmentee story.

These are great. You have a real gift for bringing out the detail of his idiocy.

I live in a suuuuuuuuuuuuper red state, but I wear a mask everywhere and nobody eyes me or says so much as word one.

Being a 200lb dude with a shaved head and full-sleeve tattoos on both arms might have something to do with it, though.

I bet a lot of these uberweiners are a lot of fun at parties. It’s easy to tell which commenters are parents and which ones aren’t.

[–] Was watching some Star Trek: Voyager and noticed a certain somebody. RistaRicky 20 points ago in firefly

And a recurring part in Warehouse 13 as one of the regents. Jewel Staite and Sean Maher made cameos in that show as well
