[–] The first dog to pee on Mars would temporarily be the dog lord of a whole planet Rottendog 15 points ago in Showerthoughts

Yeah man, let him in, he can even bring a rusty red dog corpse. Talk about conversation starters!

[–] TIL Dirk Willems, jailed for his devotion to being an Anabaptist, escaped from prison. But when the guard pursuing him fell through the ice, Willems turned around to save the guard. He was then recaptured, tortured, and killed. Rottendog 1 points ago in todayilearned

I'm saying that saving someone from drowning in a frozen lake because they chased you across the frozen lake and the lake broke, doesn't make you a hero.

The act of being courageous enough to save a dying person while being pursued with the knowledge that stopping to save that person will possibly result in capture, torture, and death pretty much literally defines a hero.

[–] Texas Sheriff Blasts Immigrant ‘Drunks’—Then Son Is Busted for Public Intoxication Rottendog 2 points ago in politics

I can't say what happens elsewhere, but in my small community, it's heavily hispanic and the drunk driving that happens here is VERY high. Now to be fair, it's all races here are doing it, so it's not a hispanic thing. This is a very redneck rural area, everyone is doing it (well not everyone, but you get my meaning).

I'm just saying let's not get too hung up on immigrants don't do it. I've had my mailbox taken out 6 times in 7 years - and those I can't account for how or who on those, but the 4 separate accidents that happened in front of my house in that same time frame due to drunk driving were all hispanic. I personally witnessed them. I had to help them get out of their cars. One guy was hung up in the fence. Then watched each and every single one run away when I let them know I called 911.

People should also be upset and worried. It's bad enough that were abandoning allies, but think of the next conflict we inevitably become engaged in.

Who wants to ally with the country who cuts and runs when you need help?

That's exactly it. I can't wrap my head around the logic (or lack thereof) in the FoxNews comment section. <shudder>

[–] Oxygen-dependent man dies 12 minutes after PG&E cuts power to his home Rottendog 4 points ago in news

Not a false equivalence. The statement was:

If you can't live without 12 minutes of electricity then it's your time, straight up.

And 12 minutes without power didn't kill him. The stress of losing his oxygen caused a heart attack. The 12 minutes without power INDIRECTLY killed him.

If a bar tender can be responsible for selling alcohol to a drunk person who causes an accident, then the power company can be responsible for causing a heart attack to someone who was gasping for air when they cut the power.

If you can't live without 12 minutes of electricity then it's your time, straight up.

Then don't try to justify living without power for 12 minutes causing the death of someone as acceptable. Especially if it's preventable.

Guess we should just head to the hospitals and start offing people, right? Look at all those people who can't live without electricity.

Huh, it's almost like suffocating to death could cause someone with heart problems a heart attack...weird.

Better be careful - in many places of business insubordination is a firable (fireable?) offense. I mean one could argue that would be the best outcome (and by that I mean getting out from under a boss like that), but if you need the job, just be careful.

Edited to make my meaning clearer (I hope.)
