[–] ELI5: Why is blue cheese safe to eat with mould on but other cheeses aren't? ShemhazaiX 1 points ago in explainlikeimfive

That's... Not how this works. How this actually plays out is that OP gets an infection that would normally be easily treatable and then dies.

[–] BBC News: Seven MPs leave Labour Party ShemhazaiX 3 points ago in worldnews

These divisions were caused by people like Chukka who refused from the very offset to accept that centrism isn't going to win Labour any votes.

[–] Consumerism in crisis as millennials stay away from shops. People are increasingly interested in experiences instead; the priority is making and sharing memories – interacting with other people and places ShemhazaiX 2 points ago in Futurology

It's actually going the other way, at least in the UK. We're removing the ability to use mortgage interest as an expense on property income. Turns out people really hate landlords so it's easy to push through tougher taxes rules for them. Being a landlord is less about making money on rent, and more about subsidising the mortgage on a property so you can sell it later. Unless you're rich and can buy the properties outright.

Glad Darksiders didn't perform too well. Wouldn't want anyone getting laid off.

[–] What is something you do alone for fun that 99% of people would considering boring? ShemhazaiX 1 points ago in AskReddit

I rarely go to the cinema with other people. Can't deal with having to worry about other people's expectations these days. So much better to stuff some doritos on your bag with a bottle of coke and sit in the VIP seats and really take in the experience.

[–] Nearly a million more young adults now live with parents – study - Number has risen from 2.4 million to 3.4 million in 20 years, UK report says ShemhazaiX 1 points ago in worldnews

Yup. All those interest free mortgage plans sold in the 00s are all going to be ending within the next decade with people having no way to repay the capital. Combined with the removal of being able to claim the full loan interest of your mortgage as a landlord expense in the UK, there's going to be a lot of houses appearing on the market soon, so expect a big crash.

I do find it delightfully ironic that renaissance faires are unique to the USA, a country that has no medieval history.

[–] Plant-based burger battle heats up as Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat unveil new products ShemhazaiX 1 points ago in Futurology

Problem is its pricing out the masses. Most people do not have the money to be able to actually afford that on a regular basis. Let's say for the sake of an argument you replaced all meat in your diet with a beyond burger. That's nearly £150 a month on just the burger portion of the meal, not factoring in the cost of any other monthly food costs. Working class wallets do not stretch that far.

The one I had was thick and juicy. Cooked it myself so it wasn't overdone. I'm no burger connoisseur though, it just got the job done.

[–] Plant-based burger battle heats up as Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat unveil new products ShemhazaiX 1 points ago in Futurology

Yes, and that's irrelevant to the point that I'm making. It doesn't matter why it's more expensive, it just needs to be cheaper. I'm all for subsidising meat alternatives and removing meat subsidies. It's just not the current reality.

Don't be a twat. If you think the average person can afford that on a regular basis you're deluded. A company has the responsibility to handle their waste properly, if they can't afford it then their business shouldn't exist in the first place because they aren't pricing themselves to cover the costs. If a person can't afford food then they don't really have an option other than buying cheaper food.
