[–] Emirati (26F) moving to Dubai... Need encouragement. Shumayal 2 points ago in dubai

I've lived in all 3 places. But I'm an expat so it may or may not help.

Dubai is ok. There are many things AL Ain does it better, especially ease of driving and everything near by.

Other than that, since you are within the UAE there is nothing to be uncomfortable about. Just avoid the clubbing and pub areas.

It's definitely easier to live than London due to halal food. Shattaf and mosques everywhere.

So many of my friends have it and reading this motivated me.

    must live in UAE

Don't live in UAE but regularly come in summer. Does 30 years of my UAE experience amount to nothing? (like residency)

[–] I saw a similar incident this year where a 2014 Corolla was the undercover cop in Al Ain during AFC Shumayal 1 points ago in dubai

Me too. Where do you see people drive 20kmph in the middle lane without traffic?

If anything, I've seen more uniform speeds in AL Ain. Fantastic. 80 top speed enforced almost everywhere!

It was during the ASIAN football cup, an untinted ordinary looking Corolla came and tried to honk away and ask people to move their cars since there was congestion.

People did not pay much heed and out of nowhere the blue and reds appeared on the bumper grille and rear. Cleverly hidden.

I was so surprised. No fines though. Not that I know off, and I've never seen people clear the area faster. I was in awe, especially as I've been inside a CIDs car and this type of Corolla undercover is something I've never seen before or even expected.

And absolutely no tint on windows. This was the most striking feature for me.

[–] New Drone zones for 2019, Yay or Nay? Many of my favorite spots are now restricted, especially in AUH Shumayal 1 points ago in dubai

I've droned with a friend driving on Jabal Hafeet with a chase cam. Felt like Forza 7 in real life. 😔

    I wanted to redo it.

Even the western world doesn't give a damn about the Geneva Convention. US regularly violates it. Guantanamo and what have you.

[–] How common is English as a first language, on the continent? Shumayal -2 points ago * (lasted edited 3 days ago) in AskEurope

Having been from east to west, I'd say It's very rare in general as a second language, forget first.

But there are many outliers, Sweden and Netherlands has nearly everyone speaking English while I found close to nobody in Hungary and Portugal.

    Your mileage may vary.

[–] What country in Europe would you consider as a "brother" to your nation? Shumayal 1 points ago in AskEurope

Do you agree USA has now become the dominant force (having everything revolve around them) displacing the UK as the "center of the world", at least to some extent?

    Reversing the historic roles? 😅

[–] What country in Europe would you consider as a "brother" to your nation? Shumayal 3 points ago in AskEurope

I disagree. We are a diverse lot and the seeds of communalism that germinated recently are a result of the British Divide and Rule policy.

Just see how many unique languages with nothing in common exist within the same country. In reality, we actually need two time zones as well.

What about Canada, USA, New Zealand and South Africa?

My Portuguese friends tell me they prefer to talk in English when in Spain since the language differences can be significant. (?)
