[–] Disney pledges 5 million to support rebuilding of Notre Dame StarlightBaker 2 points ago in disney

You also have to consider that the cathedral is on an island in the middle of a river. Everything is built up really compacted around the heart of the city. There will be a ton of logistical issues to address like cranes or other solutions for moving materials. There are probably hundreds of small day-to-day costs that will contribute to the price tag that only a project manager with experience in hard to reach historical restorations will think about.

A part of this is being side by side instead of facing one another. Being face to face brings out adversarial behaviors while being side by side helps people relax and be more collaborative.

[–] Traced myself back to a lord in England. A 17th great grandfather. Ever think about how many 17th great grandparents u have? I think it’s somewhere around 500,000 17th great grand parents! Is that right? StarlightBaker 2 points ago in Genealogy

That’s pretty cool - I’ve uncovered a headsman - the French translation isn’t precise so I don’t know if he was a tax collector or executioner. One set of ancestors that came to the U.S. were French Huguenots who fled when their religion became illegal. I find their stories interesting but my heart really goes out to one of my 5th great grandmothers who had 24-26 children. As far as I can tell only one died at birth.

I found a site that has a list of my Native American ancestors going back to 1751. There are death and marriage records for my great grandma and a photo of my grandmother as a girl as well as a more recent photo of my mom’s cousin who was the chief of our tribe. It fills me with joy that someone is doing this and making it public. They will not be lost to history as much of our tribe’s culture has been. I guess I don’t feel a sense of ownership because my entire life I have seen our tribal artifacts in museums and our mission.

I’ve been at it for a while. Patience is key! Instagram has been the most successful way of trading for me.

I miss the original. It wasn’t distorted and even if riders weren’t familiar with all the sites they were still beautiful.

[–] My friend had a bad weekend so I made him a tower of 100 McDonald's Nuggets StarlightBaker 1 points ago in shittyfoodporn

Wouldn’t eat it cause it would destroy my digestive tract but you are one hell of a friend!

Condolences friend! I adore Paris but will never drive in the city. Public transport and on foot for me! I hope you managed to salvage your weekend and did something fun.

[–] Dear Reddit, what is your weirdest dream/nightmare you've ever had? StarlightBaker 11 points ago in AskReddit

I had these same kind of dreams after my mom died. They made me so happy, almost as if I hadn’t lost her. Inevitably my dad would show up in these dreams and I would be excited and yell for him to come see mom. Each time after I called to my dad I would turn back to where she had been and find she had gone.

Her death absolutely wrecked him and I think my brain was telling me it was better for him to not think of her because it was too painful for him to go through.

[–] What's a life-changing experience you think every young person should go through? StarlightBaker 1 points ago in AskReddit

I was going to suggest a semester abroad. You can do hosted programs where you stay with a family and really experience local culture. Traveling to a place where you don’t speak the language is pretty eye opening. I think people who have done it have a new perspective and may develop empathy and more respect for people who emigrate.

Alcohol is still not sold at Disneyland (Club 33 being the exception) but California Adventure and the hotels serve beer/wine/cocktails at restaurants and bars. There are even two “quick serve” places in CA that only serve beer.

Isn’t this the same country that ruled women couldn’t be raped if they wore jeans because they were too hard to remove if the woman struggles?

Bake cheese (I have used sliced provolone) on a silicone sheet or parchment until browned but not crisp. Remove from oven and drape over the side of a baking dish so it forms a U shape. Let firm up.

Just picked up small wrap things from Costco made of egg and cauliflower. No carbs and 8 calories each. They’re called crepini egg thins with cauliflower.

Had shredded beef tacos with them last night and planning breakfast tacos soon!

The professors love it? Oh man, things really have changed since the 90s. My mentor was a Vietnam vet and associated press editor who emphasized critical thinking and taking no shit while remaining professional. He has since retired but I’m pretty sure I know what he’d say about the talk show format and journalism in general.
