    Hes not arguing that slavery is benign. He is arguing that it is unfair to apply the slur to 99% of white households. Hes adding the population of non slave states to dilute the result. Also, if 1% is the case, thereby exonerating almost all, why do the exonerated work so hard on preserving the legacy of that 1%.
