[–] Entire Lebanese government to resign within hours over deadly explosion, minister says Upgrades 8 points ago in worldnews

The entire middle east is one giant Anglo-French example of hubris. Sykes-Picot is probably the most consequential event in modern imperialism in terms of it's long-standing impact upon, basically, the entire world with the wealth it has given and taken and transferred and the numerous wars and endless battles and skirmishes it has caused

That sounds like you'd have to be done with religious influence on the population, though, in order to make that a reality, as government positions are filled by people who are part of that population and good luck removing religious influence from the lives of the majority of any middle eastern nation.

They're trying to say it's like 'the most conservative democrat' but Sunni and Shia don't work this way as far as I am aware. They believe different people related to Muhammed are more important than the other group does (I believe it's something like that...at least one of the main differences) and that makes hard lines that cannot really be blurred. Now, there's likely social policy that each group believes is acceptable that has overlap and variation within it, but I'm not caught up on my Lebanese social issues diversity as represented by each religious sect info lately so couldn't tell you for sure.....I'm pretty much guessing, really.

When the E.C. was started there was no stipulation about each state giving the winner all E.C. votes. States realized they would get more attention from candidates by doing so, so other states had to follow suit to stay relevant as well. It's kind of like corporate lawyersm..corporate lawyers exist because other companies have corporate lawyers, aka it's all bullshit ruined by the first asshole to do it. Also, when it was created Senators were not elected but chosen by each states government, sending people they thought would best serve the country. Our government today is not what it was at it's founding due to congress's ability to change it. They also used the E.C. in order to STOP someone like Trump, with the purpose being to have patriotic trusted individuals sent to cast the E.C. votes who would oppose a mad man like Trump being chosen by the majority.

There are a bunch of states that have signed a pledge to have their E.C. voters (I forget the term for these people) vote for the person that wins the popular vote, regardless of what the E.C numbers add up to. We are currently only a few states off from having 270. The Supreme Court ruled somewhat recently that states in fact can control who their E.C. reps submit their votes for...however, the commerce clause says that states cannot enter into compacts together, that interstate agreements are the business of Congress, but I'm assuming there's a way they can argue that each state has concluded on its own to go that route or some other legal argument that will fly if they have gone to the trouble of creating this compact in the first place. This will effectively eliminate the E.C. without ratifying the constitution.

All the more reason for the majority group at the time to install themselves as the ones with the most political power. Power is not given based on fairness, it's taken by those with the ability to do so.

Yes, and sand from the Sahara acts as a fertilizer of sorts for the Amazon, which has soil that is actually terrible for agriculture. There was an ancient tribe that was, of course, murdered off, that invented some system of composting that makes thee best soil in the world and there's a layer of it a few feet thick found all over certain areas of the Amazon but we have no clue what the process was they used to create it.

Absolutely, and it's fucking amazing to see the transformation. Here is a short 2:00+ clip showing the Loess Plateau in China that was destroyed by overgrazing, etc and has been rejuvenated: https://youtu.be/GFXNm8omZiE

The Chinese also recently invented some paste based on something found in the cell walls of plants that they can add to desert sand and it will allow it to retain water and oxygen so plants can be planted, and all that stuff is interconnected so once the trees comes back the water stays in the area instead of going into groundwater tables and then animals come back, etc etc etc.

But why..why would they bring one computer to one location just to remote to it from the original location, while both computers are on the same VPN

Oh no, they think the only reason they're calling us to get it fixed is because we didn't fix it right last time or it was our fault it broke in the first place.

You're clearly not American. I'm pretty sure there are a ton of Chinese shills on reddit these days because every.time I see China mentioned recently these guys pop up and turn it into a China vs US debate (some prob with themselves to keep it going) and there's always things that clearly give away that they're not native English speakers.

Afghans weren't, Vietnamese weren't. They were slaughtered. They weren't tortured, though..I'm not excusing it but find me one war where civilians weren't killed in large numbers. I'll wait.

No, they're not - see this at the very beginning of the video? https://youtu.be/XomXxmJTrLI - There's like 5 people out on a corner when those feds pull up, grab him, and throw him in a van and speed off. That's not an arrest. That's a kidnapping. DHS responded to criticism of this saying there was a 'violent mob' coming so they grabbed the guy and put him in the van to get to safety....as you can see from the video, there's no 'violent mob' there's barely anyone around, in fact. When someone is arrested you need to have the officer identify themselves and their agency so there can be accountability and the reason for the arrest needs to be explained. In the United States we don't accept government officials pulling people off the street without explanation. Why are you cheering this shit on? That's a complete violation of due process and habeas corpus, which is probably why they release them afterwards...because they legally can't be holding them.

You are defending this authoritarian bullshit when your supposedly with a political party that is all for small government and has many supporters stocking up ammo to shoot feds coming for them just like this. Don't abandon your sense of right and wrong and your beliefs because it's your political enemy involved.

Oh and those feds are supposed to be there protecting a federal courthouse - nobody is looting a fucking courthouse surrounded by feds. Its strange to have the need for a van when you're protecting one single building....

[–] China imprisons two Tibetans for song praising His Holiness the Dalai Lama Upgrades 19 points ago in worldnews

? I read of one instance the guy was taken to that federal courthouse they're 'guarding' and was questioned. He refused to answer anything and was released. I have a hard time believing people are being held without due process at all. I fucking hate Trump and think this shit in Portland is terrifying and one of the most insane things I've seen our government do, up there with Kent State, but they can't be holding them as if they're the 'antifa terrorist's Trump wishes he could declare them so he could actually hold them without due process.

With what you're saying, habeas corpus would have to have been suspended for that case. Habeas corpus basically means you can't be held without being brought before a judge allowing the court to determine whether the custodian has lawful authority to detain the person (didn't seem like it when they just pulled up quick and grabbed a guy without identifying him) and if they were acting beyond their authority they must be released. The anecdote I noted above fits with this...I believe this is mostly a political stunt by Trump and they have no intention of actually filing charges against 90% of the people they pick up.

Speaking of Trump and his desire for being able to designate his political enemies terrorists: The asshole has been flooding my internet experience with his bullshit, from YouTube videos to ads like this I got served up while playing some game...

Are these people morons? They thought their money wasn't safe in banks anymore....so thought real estate - IN 2008! - was the place to put their money. You couldn't be more stupid.

Your one anecdote does not mean the United States is just some violent wild west. I live in a county bordering Los Angeles with a million people..we have about 80 people in hospitals across the county with covid. Its not that bad. Sure, I wouldn't come for fun but driving a truck to drop off a load then turn around? Nothing to worry about.

Products will be in transit for long enough for it to die in almost all instances..the issue with surfaces was shown to not really be that much of an issue so I don't see that happening. What you're talking about with this article is very niche and is about foreigners not wanting to physically come into the United States.

However, I could see the northeast, now getting under control, banning inbound and flights from places like CA, TX, FL, and AZ at the moment and the same with incoming passenger vehicles from those same states

You definitely would not start a sentence with 'hints' in this scenario. And that's not a hint anyways, that's the precise reason. Agreed hence why is, usually, repetitive. Hence stands in for 'and that is why' or something similar depending on context.

Sounds like the dickheads writing budget proposals don't think much about IT either, and is one of the first line items to get slashed during negotiations. I guarantee they think IT is just break-fix and updating to the newest version of Office every 10 years (because they sure as shit aren't upgrading any faster).
