[–] 20 years old, $0 expenses per month making $14/hour 30-40 hours per week. What do I do with my money? VarsityAthlete 0 points ago in personalfinance

2.5 percent of nothing is worthless, you can compound nothing all you want. Your over here explaining FDIC insured like its the lynchpin of financial literacy, Listen I am glad you noobs are reading the instruction manual, but I am telling you from a different level. The type of money being earned, saved, compounded etc wouldn’t buy a weeks groceries in my house.

Congrats on the job and wealthy parent. Also ignore everything I am about to say if you have a disability. But your basically making a brag post about an hourly job and mooching off your parents. this whole thread is irrelevant because you do not have zero expenses, they pay for condoms ? What can your take home pay possibly be 1500 a mo. So in a year you will accumulate 18k provided you do absolutely nothing with your life, like date, eat, travel, which would be a terrible idea at 20. This situation is not going to last forever, the free part. You can not keep playing Magic in your basement forever. Keep your money liquid, any return your going to get is pretty much useless. Maybe in a year you will have enough for a deposit, first and last on an apartment and a small car and a little reserves. Roth IRA is effective but you wont even pay taxes this year at that pay rate, why lock up money you will need and pay a penalty to access it. Best advice and does not seem like anyone mentioned, go out and live life, you will look back on early 20s as wasted if all you did was pick up kids from school and manage a fast food restaurant and play Magic. Also glad job may pay for school, but you should be enrolled regardless even online at local community/state college or at least studying for CLEP tests. You will probably get significant financial aid. So that you can possibly have an actual career. Go enjoy life do not worry about trying to invest a few pennies for a few pennies return. Worry about making more money.

I have never felt compelled to say this, but that is some tremendous art work

[–] Is anyone else bothered by Martino’s political shitpost on Metsblog.com? VarsityAthlete 0 points ago in NewYorkMets

So if Martino wrote an article about how Jeff Wilpon is a white nationalist you would just scroll past it and shrug it off?

Where he really lost me was invoking the actor who made up a story about being bleached and noosed. Lost all credibility by mentioning him in same sentence as Trayvon Martin, whom also was not relevant to KP’s stated cause (police brutality) actually sustained an injury. Yes also theres 0 correlation between JR and KP. One endured tremendous obstacles and was successful, the other is a rich white guy with 100m in the bank.

This is obviously my point, but again I find it shitty that the founder of the blog never ever once did that, and this pretentious, snooty Martino who hates the Mets figured sure why not.

I do have an issue with being subjected to political opinion on a sports blog that has never ever once delved into that. What about that would imply to you I hate black athletes ? How can you even pretend to have any idea what my attitude towards the topic is ?

[–] Reserve or Active Duty? VarsityAthlete 2 points ago in newtothenavy

This is pretty simple, if you are that close to college degree, finish. If you enlist prior to finishing you have very little if any chance of finishing at least anytime soon as active. The other reason to finish is it gives you the chance to be an officer. Once you have a degree you will have three choices, a civilian career, enlisted or officer. Guess which one pays the absolute least ? Thus it seems to me in no scenario does active enlistment make sense. As people have mentioned, if you enlist, you will not become an officer anytime soon. Reserve will also create a huge roadblock in short term to finishing degree unless you go after finishing with is a nice piece to add to your life as a young person and should help you start a civilian career.
