[–] Sanders unveils $2.5 trillion 'Housing for All' plan acm -1 points ago in politics

the problem is that the proponents of these plans never talk about how they will pay for these services in hard numbers. "we'll tax the rich!" (thunderous applause). Well how much is that going to bring in compared to the cost of your plan?

Here's his plan. I don't see the answer here:

Saying "tax the billionaires" is not an answer. How much are you taxing them, and how much revenue does that bring in?

edit: downovotes! how about a response?

Don't you recall Seattle's viaduct closing earlier this year while the new one is finished?

How many people follow the highway construction projects of cities they don't live in? I am only generally familiar with the project because I use to live in that city decades ago.

The sightline.org link you shared is from a policy research institute that focuses on sustainability and the environment. It fits in line with their stated objectives to downplay the effect of closing the viaduct. The Washington State Department of Transportation told a different story:

Morning peak travel times between Federal Way and Seattle on I-5 rose from more than 50 minutes to more than 70 minutes.

“Travel times across I-90 doubled, travel times on a lot of other freeways increased by 20 to 30 percent, and congestion coming up from Federal Way and Tacoma started before 5 a.m.,” said Jonathan Hopkins of Commute Seattle.

Perhaps easy for most over the weekend, but extremely difficult for many during the week. Which is why permanently closing it is not an option.

No impact? Where do you get that idea? It's a huge inconvenience to everyone. The traffic is going to be a nightmare.

I hate how if I search Google for some random person in pop culture, Google News will forever present me with articles about that person.

I really like Apple News early one because it was all curated. They even brought the New York Times into their offices, which ran with the headline "Apple News's Radical Approach: Humans over Machines". Yet more and more Apple is customizing my feed based on the articles I click on. I still use it as my go-to, but wish I could turn off the algorithms.

[–] Actress Felicity Huffman Sentenced to 14 Days in Jail for College Admissions Scam (had paid 15k to arrange for cheating of daughter's SAT test) acm 48 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago) in law

The headline says "jail", but the DOJ press release says "prison". I got into a lot of arguments on Reddit from people who said she's going to jail, because it's only 14 days. She's going to prison though, right?

A lot of folks said she's going to serve a couple hours, but I point to the 85% rule which would mean she'd serve at least 12 days.
