My Chicago heart is yearning... They should open a location on the north side, and by that I mean Huntsville.

[–] Nervous Newbie amwpurdue 3 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

Welcome! As others have said, 400k-600k can get you a really nice house apart from 5000+sqft McMansions.

As far as schools go, all Madison City schools are all gonna be good. For Huntsville City Schools, you're probably gonna wanna stay within Huntsville High School or Grissom High School districts (though they might and probably will change by the time your youngin' is in high school, but generally the elementary/middle schools that flow into the high schools follow the quality of the high school).

re: /u/Enron_F's post - All of those should be within the Huntsville High School district.

The market yields ~7% return on average. $130B at 7% annually is 175M / week.

[–] Anti abortion advocates sue city of Huntsville for violating free speech amwpurdue 3 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

I, too, would think this is scary. But, please stop characterizing ALL dems as wanting Infanticide or even non life-threatening late-term abortions.

And be wary of your sources... Townhall: "source for conservative news, political cartoons, breaking news, election news and commentary on politics". Check multiple agencies, you are definitely getting spun "news".

    Even that articles says

...never directly addressed whether or not he believes infants should be resuscitated after birth or potentially left to die as his prior comments suggested

It's trying to make it seem like he's doubling down on Infanticide, but his comments are not that. I think he's just an idiot, and should 100% make it clear what he advocates for. But again, 1 idiot Democratic doesn't mean all Democrats want to normalize late term abortions. I don't expect all Republicans to shoot up mosques just because 1 avid Trump supporter did.

Look, I know what it sounds like. It sounded bad. But all it takes is looking up the facts about what he said, what he stands for, and what the bill he was advocating says. Again, NO ONE is advocating for Infanticide.

[–] Anti abortion advocates sue city of Huntsville for violating free speech amwpurdue 7 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

It's pretty clear to me that he just misspoke. Infanticide is illegal in Virginia. HB 2491, which has now been tabled, would not make it legal. No abortion rights groups support infanticide.

In fact, most of what he said is what everyone else is saying. Only in cases where there may be severe deformities or a fetus that’s nonviable. He wants physicians to help determine when it's okay, not purely on the whim of someone.

[–] New downtown Huntsville hotel proposed at VBC parking deck site amwpurdue 3 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yeah, took me a while to realize this was new and NOT the Hampton Inn right next to it.

[–] New downtown Huntsville hotel proposed at VBC parking deck site amwpurdue 5 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

The red section is where I guess the location based on the description in the article. I'm not sure what "older portion" of the VBC parking desk means, but I'm guessing it's this lower portion of the deck. Perhaps /u/hsvplanner could elaborate.

    Highlights

Autograph Collection boutique hotel by Marriott that would be erected at the southwest corner of the current city-owned VBC parking deck.

The city is also proposing replacing a portion of the current VBC parking deck with a new public parking structure

The city will demolish the “older portion” of the VBC parking deck along Monroe Street to make room for the new hotel

The agreement said the hotel will have 187 rooms over six floors and features will include a rooftop bar, banquet/conference space and a full-service restaurant. The deadline to open the hotel is Dec. 31, 2021.

While we're talking flashbang assist, they should use the same metric but if you flash your teammate and they die during, you get a negative assist.

[–] Mo Brooks Invites Nick Fury amwpurdue 12 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

[–] How much would Huntsville get under new gas tax? (Spoiler alert - an additional $1.2M) amwpurdue 3 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

I think you're overestimating how much cities have a say in road work, and how much we pay vs the state/feds.

    https://3jzi0q2zthm01oqpx2h96lz1-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/2019-Budget-Book-r1.pdf (second to last page)

$1.2M doesn't seem like a lot for projects, but as Huntsville only spends ~$30M a year on roads, that's 4% more than before.

[–] How much would Huntsville get under new gas tax? (Spoiler alert - an additional $1.2M) amwpurdue 3 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

It's disingenuous to say "cutting spending is better than raising taxes". Surely, this isn't the case 100% of the time, nor 0% of the time. No one party or platform is the cure-all. I urge you to look at EVERY candidate and find out what they want to spend money on and what they would cut/raise for it. And if they stick to it, hopefully that will help regain your trust.

We live in a society, and there are a lot of items that don't directly benefit myself. But I would rather my money benefit us all because I also move up when others are lifted higher.

[–] How much would Huntsville get under new gas tax? (Spoiler alert - an additional $1.2M) amwpurdue 6 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

While that is an unprovable argument, and based on feelings ("mismanage" is subject to interpretation), I would mildly agree this is a problem. However, I don't see less taxes being the solution, as the "mismanagement" you speak of would still be there, right?

I would like to see an alternative that is better. Government doesn't inherently make fiscal sense. You need government to invest in things that would NOT make sense for private industry to. I would rather give some more taxes to our government in return for service I don't expect to happen naturally, even IF that comes with a little "mismanaged" overhead.

[–] How much would Huntsville get under new gas tax? (Spoiler alert - an additional $1.2M) amwpurdue 10 points ago in HuntsvilleAlabama

So you ONLY try to cut your budget? You never try to grow your salary?

Our gas tax is one of the lowest in the nation. I'm all for bringing this up to the national average, implementing a lottery, and legalizing the Devil's Lettuce as various tax sources.

Now, gas would be the last of those I'd raise, but I still think it could go up.
