http://imgur.com/PDfuBXr I have attached a heavy crop from one of my recent star shots where the stars seem to be coming out with strange outlines creating a weird bumpy texture. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

    It was taken with a Nikon D610 and the Saymang 24 f/1.4 at ISO6400, 24mm, f/1.8, 13s

I will usually use the autostacking in Photoshop first and then go back in by hand to fix anything it misses. It didn't take too much time on this shot, but it can take hours with more complex foregrounds...especially with a lot of flowers when there is any wind.

Yup! Pretty much anytime I have a close foreground element I will do focus stacking. It's usually pretty effortless unless it's more complex like flowers

This is pretty much right next to the road and I live only 1.5hrs away so I just watched the weather and got up early one day, so I slept in a bed :) When I am backpacking I use a tent though

Thanks! I arrived in the dark and noticed the lake had frozen and had to scramble all around to try and find a good foreground. I found this little area with the frozen crystals about 5 minutes before the light started. Got pretty lucky. It's crazy how you can be to the same area 10+ times and still have to run around trying to find something you like depending on the conditions!

Here is a shot from mid November of 2016 in the Mount Baker area during one of the best sunrises I have ever seen. It had been my goal to get some good light with fresh snow on the trees right before the lake froze, but I missed it just barely! This was the first day after it had started snowing that the weather looked good and MAN was it an awesome 🔥 I really wish the lake hadn't been frozen but I found these cool ice shards and thought they looked pretty neat. The lake is still covered in snow right now, but it should start melting here soon!

For those interested this is Mount Shuksan in the Mount Baker area seen from Picture Lake which is a very popular spot near Artist Point.

    Shot Info: Nikon D610 w/ Nikon 16-35 f/4 (ISO100, 16mm, f/11, 2s) 5 shots stacked for focus from front to back

SM is a secure message. And from all the DPs (data points) it doesn't look like it will work. Never hurts to try through. Be the DP you want to see! :)

Like others said about the e-mail referral usually taking a while - what I do is post it on Facebook with "only me" able to see it and you can then copy and paste that link for your father to use. Good luck!

Yes - get the CIP first. It does not count towards your 5/24 so you would then be able to apply for CSP after. You can usually get two cards at 4/24 if you apply on the same day as well. Read up on the Chase sidebar for more information

[–] The road to this viewpoint just opened this weekend - here is a shot from last year of Mt St Helens, Washington (OC)[1600x2000] @rosssvhphoto celica90 6 points ago in EarthPorn

Getting excited for milky way season this year. I didn't shoot the stars as much as I should have last year and am hoping to change that soon. The road to Johnston Ridge Observatory just opened up and now I am just waiting for some clear skies! This is a vertical shot I took of Mount St Helens last year. We were too late in the year for the best alignment with the crater, but it was still an amazing night with great conditions. The glow in the bottom right is from nearby cities.

This question comes up a lot - can you really see the milky way arm like this in person? The answer is yes and no. This is a long exposure shot which allows the camera sensor to receive more light than our eyes can. So no, you will never be able to see the milky way this bright in person, but you definitely can clearly see the milky way arm. If you are in the northern hemisphere, find a dark area (this is KEY) during summer months and face South, you won't be able to miss it! For best viewing results you want to make sure you are as far away from city lights as possible and try to not have the moon out. Light from these objects will greatly reduce your ability to see the milky way.

    Shot info: Nikon D610 w/ Nikon 50mm f/1.8 ISO6400, 50mm, f/1.8, 10s (Pano)
