[–] PragerU's latest video is making some solid points. cougardraven 2 points ago in LibertarianUncensored

And yet at least I can say I'm not here to baselessly insult people.

[–] PragerU's latest video is making some solid points. cougardraven 6 points ago in LibertarianUncensored

Ooh, you called me a cunt, look how right that makes you!

I have no interest in your revisionist history.

[–] PragerU's latest video is making some solid points. cougardraven 5 points ago in LibertarianUncensored

Mm, the fallacy fallacy. Haven't seen anyone actually use that in years.

I'm not trying to reason, you moron. I have no interest in trying to reason with someone who thinks insults are arguments.

[–] PragerU's latest video is making some solid points. cougardraven 3 points ago in LibertarianUncensored

Why do you resort to baseless insults?

Is it because you're not smart enough to find things that will actually hurt others?

[–] PragerU's latest video is making some solid points. cougardraven 5 points ago in LibertarianUncensored

I'm talking about the fact that the entire concept of libertarianism was invented and cultured by anarchists and socialists, and the current trend of right-libs assuming that their libertarianism is the only proper libertarianism is a bastardization of the past.

Which, I suppose, is the only way reactionary fucks like them can survive.

You felt compelled to inject your garbage

I'm sorry, what? Who do you think you're responding to? My first comment in this entire post was to you, wherein I said that there's no point engaging partisan bullshit on the level of partisan bullshit.

bringing literally nothing but personal attacks and deflection

Show me this. Show me where I personally attacked anyone. Again, I don't think you're responding to the right person.

I'm not even going to bother with the rest of this, because frankly it's hilarious that you're going so fucking hard with this idea that if I don't respond to the gish gallop that you and yours want to bring to the table, that I'm the problem. If you're sick of me, then why respond? Just go ahead and leave Illinois and complain that society expects things of you. You're not wanted here.

[–] Link's Awakening Intro 1998 vs 2019 cougardraven 2 points ago in zelda

The random mermaid whose scale unlocks a hidden room under a random statue.

The shrine telling the truth about what the world is despite it being under the control of the Nightmares, like they're James Bond villains.

The single Goriya that's somehow too small to see.

    The owl statues.

That time that you randomly get followed by a ghost who won't let you do anything until you ferry him across the world, twice. (seriously, dude, you're a ghost, why do you need mortal transport)

    Will Wright.

The game is full of weird bullshit. I love it so much.

[–] New Team "The Detective League" debuting in Detective Comics #1000 by Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo cougardraven 2 points ago in DCcomics

Depends on your continuity. Back in the day she was just his girlfriend (and later wife), but in the modern era she's been shown to be able to create a mystery that's good enough that Ralph, who is Batman level, can't solve.

You're basically right. Carter Hall is the "current" version of that identity, but he had been reborn all across space and time, so you have Prince Khufu of Egypt, Katar Hol of Thanagar, and Carter Hall of Earth, but you also have things like Catar-Ol of Krypton and whatnot. And so yeah, he's a detective, but also a space cop, scientist, prince royal. Basically he's the truest polymath: he's done everything.

Your first link includes a statement that says that the rate of people leaving Illinois has been unchanged for almost a century, and that the actual problem is lowered birth rates and lowered immigration to Illinois.

Your second and fourth link may as well be one link, as one is sourced from the location of the other, the Illinois Policy Institute, which I guess is fine if you like sources that are biased, but like to claim that they're not. (Also the "unpaid fellow" that wrote the two ZeroHedge articles wrote under the name "Tyler Durden". Don't cut yourself on that edge there, son.)

The second and fourth links single out Cook as losing more population than any other county, and paint a dire picture of all the collar counties losing population, but I feel like it's intellectually dishonest to not point out that the greatest driver of population loss in those counties, and in fact the only reason the growth was negative at all, was in-state migration, which doesn't back up the "but people are leaving Illinois" fear-mongering.

Your other ZeroHedge article relies mostly on misleading graphics that paint a very specifically selected view of things. As the other person pointed out, the total loss of population is small. Even in your link it's less than half a percent.

There are a lot of reasons to leave Illinois, sure. But making it sound as though it's a huge problem that's going to destroy the state is overlooking the fact that we're the sixth most populous state in the country, and we could lose the entire population of Wyoming (roughly five times what we have lost in the past five years) and still not drop to seventh.

And frankly, if people who want to live in a place where they get all the services that a government has to provide without paying in on an income tax to get it, they're perfectly free to go move to a red state and take more money from the federal government than they give back. We don't need them.

    1. I'm not the person you originally were talking about, calm your shit.
    2. Frankly, I'm unimpressed by the idea that there's any value in the idea that I have to "do better" or somehow I'm worse than the other guy spouting partisan insults. That's some bullshit holding me to a higher standard of conduct and behavior simply because I don't think that raising taxes on people who can honestly afford to pay more in taxes is a bad thing.

There's no point in engaging someone seriously who resorts to partisan bullshit to make a point that's based on opinion.

[–] A notorious user admits to having child porn and tries to defend it. Things quickly devolve from there. cougardraven 1 points ago in SubredditDrama

Looking into it, sort of? On the one hand, the Sentencing Guidelines table does include baked-in details saying that images depicting prepubescent children or children under 12 heighten the severity of the sentence by two stages, but since 2005 the guidelines are advisory and are not required, and they're federal guidelines to begin with, so they may not apply to the states.

There are relatively few sentencing requirements in the United States.

The official US Sentencing Commission Guidelines Manual says that a court may consider other factors beyond just the typical algorithm of severity, but that is very much not a requirement.

[–] A notorious user admits to having child porn and tries to defend it. Things quickly devolve from there. cougardraven 1 points ago in SubredditDrama

Right, I accounted for that when I was saying "in a vacuum". The law as it is written makes no distinction, but it is interpreted by humans who are more likely to bring severe punishment for more severe instances.

As far as the law is concerned in a vacuum, nah. But yeah, I find it incredibly easy to believe that cops and prosecutors are more likely to bring a much heavier hammer down on people who have that really, really fucked up shit.

[–] Illinois set to hike minimum wage to $15, highest in Midwest cougardraven 2 points ago in illinois

Reactionary anti-consumer nonsense like this isn't helping. The only people your rhetoric benefits are people who think "trickle-down" is going to benefit them, and are right.

[–] Illinois set to hike minimum wage to $15, highest in Midwest cougardraven 2 points ago in illinois

I keep forgetting how ridiculously (and stupidly) right-wing my county is. Thanks for the reminder of why I'm getting into journalism: to combat bullshit like this.
