[–] Investors managing $32 trillion in assets call for action on climate change dafuq453 1 points ago in worldnews

Also our real emissions above our already massive per capita rate are actually higher, as we export a fuckton of coal to China.

    Your original definition

peak oil: which was/is defined as the point where we no longer find more new oil than we use.

Your revised definition agreeing with my statement

Peak oil is the theorized point in time when the maximum rate of extraction of petroleum is reached

Extraction, consumption and discoveries are three different things, and only one of them is relevant to the definition of peak oil. The other two are the ones you mentioned in your original comment.

Sorry mate but if you can't get a definition right in your supposed field of expertise you don't get to call people a fucking idiot.

Peak oil is when the rate of production peaks and begins to decline. It has nothing to do with new discoveries or consumption.

You're so 'smart' and 'informed'? You don't know what you're talking about.

[–] UK and US ‘not paying fair share’ towards tackling climate change, report finds. Rich nations must make 'much stronger commitments to fix the climate crisis that they, and their wealthiest elites, are largely responsible for creating' dafuq453 1 points ago in worldnews

Because if one country or seven countries pack themselves full of people and meet por capita emissions they will still be too high. Those seven countries would still constitute a third of global emissions despite a low power capita rate.

Global land area is fixed. All nominations and regions should be accountable for managing their per capita emissions and population density.

That's exactly what we've been talking about! China emits the tits off it because there are so many fucking people! There are two ways to break reasonable emissions levels, high per capita or high population. China's per capita levels are fine but nothing will change on the bottom line because there are just too many people.

Yes American emissions are also way too high. America has a per capita problem, China has a total emissions problem.

Why would I single out China? They are the leading emitter at double the level of the US. It is the total level of emissions that impact humanity as a whole.

Your last point is partially correct. Lowering the US per capita emissions would go a long way. Unfortunately addressing per capita emissions in China won't achieve much because they are still creating 80 million new people every year.

Unfortunately all this is moot. The US will never voluntarily lower their standard of living, and China could never implement negative growth even if they wanted to.

Even with all the talk of climate accords global emissions are still increasing faster than the population rate, which means per capita emissions are increasing.

At this point there are two possibilities. Either the implications of climate change are all wrong and it will be another Y2K storm in a teacup, or nature will enforce a complete overhaul of our society within our lifetimes. Lower emissions will never happen.
