[–] Spiders are helpful in many ways... Don't hate them or fear them, they're our friend disconcertinglymoist 33 points ago in wholesomememes

    Keep our spiderbros safe!

My favourites are the little jumping spiders; they're full of personality, like tiny eight-legged cats

It rains every day in the Amazon, and given the size and heat of the fires, a tropical thunderstorm isn't going to do much, unfortunately.

The real fire in the Amazon here, the one that needs to be put out ASAP, is the far-right presidency of Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil's corrupt, anti-environmentalist, authoritarian bigot in chief.

You're letting vague biology (they're r-strategists therefore they'll be fine) and gut feeling mislead you into believing something contrary to what has repeatedly been observed by specialists as indisputable fact. Globally, fish stocks are on the verge of collapse.

Number of eggs doesn't help much when many fish populations don't reach sexual maturity fast enough to reproduce before they're caught for consumption.

That's in addition to all the other stressors that marine life has to contend with.

    1) Seafood. Fish in particular. Our oceans are almost irreversibly fucked

    2) Factory-farmed animal products. For environmental, economic and social reasons. Also ethical reasons

    3) Plastic crap

This is oddly apt but also incredibly depressing; way to sum up my entire life experience

Let's not blame "communism" exclusively, as if it were somehow inherently evil. Atrocities are committed by all sorts of groups and ideologies; it seems disingenuous to single out the socialist aspect when it would be more pertinent to focus on Authoritarian and neo-fascist tendencies of nation states instead, especially given the current global political climate.

Mccarthyism is woven into the fabric of America but it'd be nice if we could finally move beyond kneejerk horror at the merest whiff of socialism.

I know it's beside the point, but let's discuss how good looking he is.

I seriously think Steve Buscemi is oddly handsome. In his younger days he looked a lot like Alex or Bill Skasgard

OP's parents probably assumed he was a compulsive masturbator

They seem like totally different cats! First one looks like a young Siamese, second one looks like a fluffy Burmese. Nice progress but TBH they're both great especially if you don't have the original photo as reference. Second one has way more depth and better shading though, so congrats on the improvement

It's the R strategy (quantity, may the fittest/luckiest survive) versus the K strategy (quality/nurture). Invertebrates and reptiles usually go with the former, whereas mammals mostly go with the latter.

Did someone order backup? This definitely looks digital. If oil on canvas looks like this, then we are both clearly hallucinating

Love this. It's Wall-E if he had found a different kind of sapling in that abandoned fridge

Tbf people will buy anything; I think the credit/blame lies chiefly with the person who designed this thing

How convenient that this display of adoration took place behind closed doors where press weren't allowed. I find the accusations of paid actors more believable than the alternative
