What's this deal with faking narratives to make Trump and his supporters look bad? Plenty of time / ways to do that themselves without this being stupid.

If you look at my post history you can easily discern I'm in the Army (or someone who likes to pretend, I guess). Definitely doesn't describe me! Especially being a non-combatant now.

I'm not sure if you're really familiar with how JROTC works - you keep typing "ROTC" but they're separate functions. ROTC is college level and directly leads to commissioning into the military. JROTC is high school level and you don't even fire a weapon. You march around and learn survival skills and stuff - it's like the military's version of Boy Scouts.

I'm not sure how you think that high school's JROTC program let down the school shooter or inspired him - JROTC programs are run by military retirees who are often elderly. I think the causation/correlation you're making is specious at best.

Heh, I actually got myself in trouble just to keep it. I think the idea was that they needed it back in case you decided to come back and pretend you were in AIT (why anyone would want to do that, I have no idea). Hid it in my bags when I had final turn in and pretended I had lost it. Still have it a decade later, lol

I was so excited to see what Columbia had to offer since I went there for Basic but came back for BOLC. Man, what a disappointing shithole.

Investigations revealed 35 men were convicted or accused of misconduct but allowed to continue working in churches, with access to kids. Too little, and too fucking late. like christian churches seem to have

I guess my point here is that we see stuff like this in the news and it's paints anecdotal evidences that lead us towards things like anti-vaxx movements.

Let me illustrate my point in a way that even I'm sure you can agree with: How often do you hear about people saying we live in extremely dangerous times and point to all the school shootings we have? Steven Pinker (as well as others) have stated (with statistical evidence) that we live in the most peaceful times we have ever lived in.

Hopefully you see my larger point here.

Ah, interesting. I'm not as Biblically literate as I probably should be, but I'm more familiar with the immediate addendum to that passage:

Or do you not know that the unrighteous[b] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,[c] 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Unfortunately I do not know enough about the passage to state whether or not it would be eisegetical (meaning reading into the text, as opposed to reading out of the text) to use the passage in the way you're describing. Either way, I can certainly see it being abused in such a way.

No, I wouldn't say that Southern Baptists are a small organization by any means - in fact, they're the largest Protestant denomination. What I said is that they are one of many different Protestant groups and certainly don't make up the majority.

Protestants are corrupt just as the Catholics (the mother church)

If you mean that there is equally the same amount of wrong-doing (to include sexual crimes) across the board, you may very well be correct.

they keep reassigning these predators to different churches for decades on end so you never know which church is the rapey one

This assumes that the "church" is some sort of interconnected movement akin to some sort of conspiracy-esque conglomeration. It's simply not like that. Given my limited understanding of church polity, I believe that the reason we see these sorts of cases with sexual misconduct between both the Catholics and Baptists are for two reasons on each end of the spectrum. Catholic government (polity) is very high end - so there's much more control there. Southern Baptist polity - if you can even call it that - is almost not a thing. I would imagine it makes it far easier for individual churches to cover things up, because there is little oversight.

This is just hypothesizing, of course.

But again, I would feel just as uncomfortable saying (((they))) are protecting them if we were speaking of Synagogues.

I'm sorry you went through that. While I would say someone like /u/FirezardHG 's post is admirable, it's probably nothing you haven't heard (and more likely something you rather dislike hearing).

It sounds like you went through some fairly traumatic experiences. While I never experienced this personally, I can empathize somewhat through my wife who was also harmed by the church (although grew from that experience in a far different way).

I'm not here to sell you anything, I just hope you come to some form of peace with those "demons" (if you'll excuse the term). When my wife finally faced her issues with the church that she was particularly having problems with and learned to let go, it helped in ways that blew me away.
