[–] Do I have to take the language verification exam? etymologynerd 2 points ago in Harvard

[–] Do I have to take the language verification exam? etymologynerd 1 points ago in Harvard

I think OP and I both want to take the exam so we can continue to learn the language for fun with the knowledge that we fulfilled the requirement and don't have to take the classes if we don't want to

[–] AP Spanish or orchestra? etymologynerd 1 points ago in ApplyingToCollege

Fun etymology fact: the word orchestra comes from Ancient Greek orkheisthai, meaning "to dance".

Choose orchestra and ask your guidance counselor to mention the issue in their letter of recommendation.

[–] Should I Mention This in My App? etymologynerd 3 points ago in ApplyingToCollege

If it's eigth grade, don't list NYSSMA in the extracurriculars section, but you can put it in the "awards" or "other information" parts. Definitely put piano in the ECs though

Yes, that's how I feel, thank you for clarifying

[–] Can I use the word "vlogs" in my common app essay? etymologynerd 7 points ago in ApplyingToCollege

AOs are mostly younger people, they'll probably know what it means

It's really hypocritical and annoying when parents create high expectations for us to go places they couldn't

Edit: Yes, it is nice that they have high hopes for their children, but it can really be nasty for kids when their parents act like nothing but top colleges are acceptable
