[–] Commute Time from Oakland to Fremont eugenesbluegenes 1 points ago in oakland

Would have to get down to Jack London Square first and the Amtrak station in Fremont is pretty far from Warren. If doing the transit thing, might as well take BART from MacArthur to Warm Springs. BART would be closer on either end and cost less than half the fare as well.

[–] Are people being towed on Lake Merritt? eugenesbluegenes 2 points ago in oakland

I think the signs up show it though this weekend.

I live on Lakeside and saw at least one vehicle towed last weekend.

[–] How good is Hotboys? eugenesbluegenes 2 points ago in oakland

Chicken is quite good, if maybe a touch sweeter than I'd prefer.

Heat is legit. I regularly ask Thai restaurants to make a fool of me and 4 out of 5 on spice level at Hot Boys was almost too much.

Those "bonut" donut-bagel things are kinda wack though.

[–] Road trippers, what's the scariest and creepiest portion of Interstate or State Highways to drive in? eugenesbluegenes 1 points ago * (lasted edited an hour ago) in AskAnAmerican

Highway 89 approaching Emerald Bay in Tahoe from the south. That road along the top of a sawtooth ridge is so rad.

[–] Twitter just added a warning and blocked one of Trump’s tweets. What are your thoughts? eugenesbluegenes 1 points ago in AskAnAmerican

So how exactly would it require a private company to provide a platform to anyone?

The Bill of Rights limits the powers of the government. Twitter isn't the government.

Great, now you have 200 sources, each referencing a particular aspect of the subject at hand.

It really depends on the subject matter. Science related articles tend to be quite well cited.

They're definitely connected, that's why you can't swallow and inhale at the same time. The epiglottis is basically a little flap that opens into the esophagus from the larynx.

Large items (like a popsicle) can get stuck in the esophagus, thereby closing the epiglottis and cutting off airflow to the lungs. This girl didn't have a popsicle stuck in her trachea.

That's not always true. I'd say it much more likely that it did get stuck in her esophagus, entrance to the larynx won't fit a popsicle. But when something is halfway in your esophagus, it closes off the larynx.

[–] BART. - Do this all the time forever, no more front/back seats eugenesbluegenes 1 points ago in bayarea

I always like those because I'm tall and my knees hit the backs on the regular seats if I slouch at all.

[–] Foraging elderflowers? eugenesbluegenes 1 points ago in oakland

In general, I think Oakland is a bit foggier and cooler than they like it so I'm guessing most in Oakland would have been planted. More likely to find them farther inland or towards the south bay. I can't really help further than that though.

[–] Epic view of the city from Hawk Hill! eugenesbluegenes 2 points ago in bayarea

Those cyclists about to get the real epic view bombing down toward the lighthouse!

[–] Beloved countrymen, how often do you use chopsticks? Do you own a nice set? How adept are you in their use? What do you eat with them? Do you prefer them to forks? eugenesbluegenes 2 points ago in AskAnAmerican

Occasionally, when it makes sense in context of what I'm eating, e.g. noodle soup, karaage chicken and rice, dumplings.

We have maybe four sets of decently nice wooden chopsticks, which I'm perfectly comfortable using.

As hinted in my first note, I prefer them to forks for some uses, but if I'm eating a seared ribeye and mashed potatoes, pass the knife and fork, please.

[–] Radio station recommendations? eugenesbluegenes 2 points ago in AskAnAmerican

I don't think they're looking for a single station that provides all of that, rather for suggestions of different stations that would collectively meet those qualifications.

So we need to seriously ask ourselves how our society is failing those individuals.
