[–] My girlfriend [25F] accused me of "peacocking" because I [26M] accidentally left the receipt in her present. I'm having a hard time getting over it. freejosephk 1 points ago in relationships

If she's finding reasons to be annoyed at you, I would be very concerned. Partners shouldn't be thinking the worst of each other. I'm not saying break up but if you do, I wouldn't blame you. Sometimes it's hard to change somebody's established opinion of you if they're looking to nitpick. Obviously, none of us here know you both but I don't think you're wrong to be worried. I mean, how can you be with someone who criticizes who you are?

[–] Robert Whittaker: "Adesanya and Gastelum can fight Yoel Romero if they want something to do" freejosephk 28 points ago in MMA

Because how are they going to complain about opportunities when Robert fought Yoel twice but they don't have to? It doesn't make sense. Yoel is THE gatekeeper. You shouldn't get to a title shot if not through him. Yoel 2:12

I don't get this argument. All Yoel has to do to get a title fight is win one fight, maybe two, at championship weight. If he makes true 185 against Costa and wins he's right back in the title picture.

Dustin wasn't a top 5 fighter at that time. Ricardo Lamas, Stephens, Mendes, Frankie, and … someone else was but Dustin wasn't. I'm almost positive Dustin was ranked below Siver at that point. Edit: Cub was the other one.

They should at least ask Tony what he thinks is best. He's earned that much.

[–] What was the first organism to develop sexual reproduction? Also, are there any (non asexual) organisms that have a non binary sexual system? freejosephk 1 points ago in biology

Oh hey, check out this article on the dandelion. It's a bit complicated to eli5 but I'll try. Dandelions are sexual like other flowering plants, but somewhere along the way they developed a type that has 3 sets of chromosomes instead of two. So now, instead of needing to be pollinated to reproduce sexually, it produces a carbon copy of its seed with all three sets of chromosomes via regular mitosis. This is somewhat different from regular asexual reproduction in that the organism is not making a carbon copy of itself but rather making its own already fertilized gamete.

But there's more. In Europe there still exist places where the more cosmopolitan triple chromosome dandelions coexist with the regular pollinating diploid dandelions and it sometimes pollinates with the triple chromosome dandelion creating a whole new line of self fertilizing triple chromosome dandelions.

It's all here in this article: http://watchingtheworldwakeup.blogspot.com/2008/04/dandelions-are-way-cool-part-2-genetics.html

Hi fellow interneter. This is not exactly a three gender system but these lizards might be as close as they come to it. This is from PBS Deep Look: the male side-blotched lizards. Or this may be a case where there's four genders but only two sexes? Someone smarter than me can unpack what we have here.

[–] Came back to the game after long time. Need some advice about deck. More info in the comments. freejosephk 6 points ago in ClashRoyale

personally, I don't like two five elixir support cards in one deck. I think it's hard to cycle back to the one you need if you're ever in that position.

If you keep Baby Dragon in that deck consider replacing Arrows with Zap. Baby Dragon + Zap can do anything Arrows can do, and it's a cheaper and more versatile deck conrtruction.

[–] The Pay to Win Problem freejosephk 1 points ago in ClashRoyale

everyone I've played today in the 4400-4500 range has had an almost completely maxed deck.

I'm a pb 5200 player but I dropped when my device couldn't run the game. Now that I can, I thought I'd mix it up with my level 11 cards and I get to 4400 and it's level 13 cards. Unbelievable.

Imagine fighting for a living and winning and have the entire world watching you. Why not have fun with it? Why not be a kid about it? Cejudo doesn't have little man syndrome thing. He just wants to have fun. I like that in people.

Team Leg Kick vs. Team Gas Out? That's a hard pass for me.

If Conor can "starch" those guys, why doesn't he prove it. All talk, no action Conor is. It's disappointing.

Sometimes the rankings/title contention don’t mean shit.

And you wonder why some people don't like what's going on around people like Conor. That dude needs to prove his worth. Fighting Cowboy is not that. It's just another meaningless Nate fight. Who cares? I don't.

Like that fight all you want, Cowboy is still the number 9 contender because everybody else in the division is out PROVING their worth. Conor should at least attempt to do the same. But he'd rather not. Some fighter, huh.

Lol, I don't even know what I'm arguing for. I'm not thrilled with the Cerrone fight. I am thrilled about a Conor fight though. I guess I don't like the standings or that he fought Khabib straight away from the lay off.

I do wish he would have fought once before fighting for the belt. I'm no fan of the immediate title shot for anyone in any division. It fucks with my sense of fairness and sportsmanship.

The one thing you and I do disagree on is Conor smashing everyone Dustin beat. I'm not even sure Conor can beat Hooker. Or Lee. Or Al. I seriously doubt he can beat Dustin and Conor stands no chance against Tony. I think that's why I want to see Conor fight lower first. Which he actually is doing anyway. Anyway, I don't think Conor can go 8-1-1 against the field, whoever they are.

What bothers me about this is if he beats Cowboy we'll have another Siver situation where Conor gets a title shot for not doing much. Or maybe it is. But not against Khabib. And it shouldn't jump Dustin for any reason. These are the things that peeve me about the Conor situation. Conor should just fight Al, Dustin or Tony, then there would be no questions. Or Lee or Barboza so he can move up or down the rankings.

And what's wrong with 2-3 years of fighting. Dustin did it. Tony did it. Why shouldn't Conor have to? It's actually better that way imo.

But Dustin is 8-1-1. No one other than Tony and Khabib can top that. 155 is such a stacked division that getting that kind of record against anyone (and in that fashion, no decisions, etc) is extraordinary. If Conor thinks he can hang, then he should prove it. That's all I, as a sports fan, ask for.

Pettis' coach verbally tapped. He did not "almost beat Tony." That's the furthest you can be from winning when your coach throws in the towel, never mind the fact that War Tony was breaking dancing and drinking blood for the win.

Fine, Conor fought a 500 pound Gorilla Nate. It was Conor's decision to make that fight, twice, and have it mean diddly for the 155 division. Why should anyone at 155 be impressed with or care about Conor's debatable win over Nate at 170? Who btw, hasn't fought since. Those Nate fights don't do much to place Conor on the 155 rankings.

I like Conor fights. I want to see them count. That's where I'm coming from. That's why a third Nate fight does nothing for me. I'm barely moved by a Cerrone fight but whatever. I would have been happier with anyone from Barboza to Tony in the rankings (I still like a hypothetical Hooker fight but whatevs). I would have been happier to see Conor fight everyone from the beginning, tbh. Cerrone...meh, but okay. Honestly, Conor should have fought Cerrone coming into the LW division years ago, He should have made a run for the title by fighting those contenders. That's a much better deal for the fans in the long run and for the sport and the rankings.

[–] Who do the fans want Mcgregor fighting next? ESPN conducted a survey with over 18.000 votes to answer that question. freejosephk 1 points ago in MMA

But Dustin did it twice or something and also beat Gaetje and Pettis and is 8-1-1 at LW. If Conor were 8-1-1 at LW, you would hear absolutely no argument from me. As it is Conor is 1-1, and 1-1 against fellow LW Nate. And the Khabib fight wasn't competitive and his Nate win was cringy. Gassing out before the end of the 2nd? That's not a noteworthy performance for a five round fight.

I don't understand what your argument about Pettis is. What about him excites you. I'm confused. I mean, yeah, Pettis has not been the same since he lost the title. I don't see why he should be a contender when he's gone 3-6.

Yeah, what is this, the money channel?

[–] Who do the fans want Mcgregor fighting next? ESPN conducted a survey with over 18.000 votes to answer that question. freejosephk 1 points ago in MMA

Granted perhaps that ppl still want a shot at Conor for the money but I'm not interested in that. I'm only interested in the rankings and how fights should happen from that perspective.

Pettis shouldn't be ranked in the top 10. That guy is 3-6 in his last 9 and loses badly. Still, he is ranked 8 which goes to show how little correct I think the LW rankings are. But tbf, Lee and Barboza are 5 and 6 and that seems right to me, Conor's #2 ranking notwithstanding.

If Conor however wants to prove he's a slick striker, let him prove it then. My intuition tells me Cowboy isn't the guy to prove it but my opinion is worth about two cents if anything. That fight is probably happening so whatever, but there's a lot of guys above Cerrone who have been fighting at LW who would deserve a title shot or a contender shot more than the winner of Cerrone-McGregor. There's Al, Dustin and Tony, and Barboza and Lee make strong cases too.

Eddie isn't a big enough name to get Conor a title shot. In the UFC, Eddie has a loss to Cerrone, split decision wins against Pettis and Melendez, two fighters on their way out who didn't do well afterwards, the win over Dos Anjos who's gone 3-4 lately, and a win against Gaetje who doesn't have a top 5 win himself.

Conor is 1-1 against Nate and the one win wasn't impressive. His loss to Khabib wasn't competitive. The rest of Conor's resume is from years ago and at 145. Nothing about Conor's record earns him a title shot or a contender shot. That wall to wall record is an illusion.

Nate is number 12 so never say never to 10 and 11. Plus, it was Conor's decision to fight Cerrone who is ranked 9 even though both Poirier and Al showed interest as they should since Conor does hold the #2 ranking (even though he doesn't deserve it in my mind).

but he hasn't been champion for a while now, and that division is so stacked I want it to move forward. It's a good thing his next fight is Cowboy but I think Lee or Barboza would be more appropriate. The fight with Cowboy is kind of like Nate's. It doesn't tell us much about where Conor is in relation to everyone else.
