[–] Mercedes abandons petrol, diesel development green_flash 34 points ago in worldnews

They reportedly abandon diesel/petrol engine development. The way I understood it, they will still develop new car models with diesel/petrol engines though.

For Augustus, the rumor of the kid being Caesar's son was easily enough to have him murdered.

Cleopatra was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty.

The Ptolemaic family tree looks rather unusual because Ptolemaic rulers usually married their siblings.

Cleopatra was likely married to two of her brothers before she met Caesar.

They US may be behind the escalation of the Yemen crisis, but the crisis was there long before Saudi Arabia's intervention:

On the other hand, the US was involved in the Yemeni Civil War long before Saudi Arabia's intervention:

[–] Pakistan pledges end to underage, forced marriages by 2030; According to the UNICEF report, the number of underage marriages recorded in Pakistan is in excess of 1.91 million. About 21 percent of women in Pakistan are married before they attain the age of 18 while 3% are married before they turn 15 green_flash 13 points ago in worldnews

It's not that simple. Pakistan's legal age of marriage is already quite high, at 18 for boys and 16 for girls. In India for example, the legal age of marriage is even higher, at 21 for boys and 18 for girls, but the percentage of women married before 18 and the percentage of women married before 15 is even higher than in Pakistan. Simply raising the legal age of marriage won't help much on its own. A cultural change is necessary and that takes some time.

[–] Trump Calls Reports That He’d Meet With Iran ‘Fake News’ — Even Though His Cabinet Secretaries Said He Would Last Week green_flash 31 points ago in worldnews

Winston dialled 'back numbers' on the telescreen and called for the appropriate issues of The Times, which slid out of the pneumatic tube after only a few minutes' delay. The messages he had received referred to articles or news items which for one reason or another it was thought necessary to alter, or, as the official phrase had it, to rectify. For example, it appeared from The Times of the seventeenth of March that Big Brother, in his speech of the previous day, had predicted that the South Indian front would remain quiet but that a Eurasian offensive would shortly be launched in North Africa. As it happened, the Eurasian Higher Command had launched its offensive in South India and left North Africa alone. It was therefore necessary to rewrite a paragraph of Big Brother's speech, in such a way as to make him predict the thing that had actually happened.

[–] The idea of holding referendums on whether Northern Ireland should stay in the UK and a second referendum on Scottish independence has widespread support among voters in England, Scotland and Wales, a new poll suggests. green_flash 1 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago) in worldnews

You're not up to date with the Indian government's narrative. The Indian government has since admitted that it was lying and that there were indeed massive protests and that protesters were shot at by security forces.

From Indian media because you don't seem to trust international news organizations:

    https://www.bloombergquint.com/politics/kashmir-situation-soura-srinagar-protest-bbc-aljazeera-reuters-home-ministry

The Union government has taken two U-turns in less than 24 hours regarding the unrest in Kashmir: the first regarding a protest that took place in Srinagar’s Soura area on 9 August and the second regarding the use of pellets against civilians.

The new narrative after that embarrassing about face is now that all the protesters in Kashmir are terrorists.

But I guess if you believe that Sadiq Khan has any influence on the reporting of the BBC, then all hope is lost with regards to liberating you from the imaginary world constructed by the people you follow.

Though, losing Scotland probably means Labour would get fewer votes

The Tories won twice as many seats as Labour in Scotland in the last election. However, SNP took most of the seats and they certainly do not side with the Tories on most issues, so the basic premise of your statement still holds true. Tories would benefit from Scottish independence.
