[–] 10 things you'll find shocking about asynchronous operations... janjansohn 3 points ago in ProgrammerHumor

Hey, fellow IT interested folk here, coming from /r/all and this is the first one out of this sub that hit all that I just can't make sense of!

Can someone explain like I'm a somewhat tech-savvy five year old to me what's funny about this?

Who's this Buru Cobana you're talking about?

What does gator taste like? I'm European so it's rather unlikely I'll ever get the chance to eat it... not that I really wanted to...

I have a super curly beard that looks shit for two months straight before it starts to look okay. Haha. If you have huge patches it obviously won't just go away, but the thick appearance often times comes with a certain length. Be sure to trim it still because some hair just goes wherever, you don't wanna look like a hobo.

Assuming you're 20 by the 97 in your username, I can only say give it a few more years and try again! Also growing it out takes a lot of time until it does not look awkward and/or patchy anymore :)

[–] This just popped up on my Instagram feed and I thought you guys might appreciate as much as I do. (Credit goes to @thedavidcote!) janjansohn 1 points ago in rickandmorty

David Cote tends to use more black in his tattoos than usual. He does some pretty trippy stuff. It sometimes has vapourwave aesthetics combined with a certain trippiness plus some black stuff - the black stuff usually has stars and shimmering in it so I guess it's an anecdote to outer space.

In this one the only thing he could have really changed was the hair, so I think that's why their hair is black. Skin colour is probably just darker because it's a super fresh tattoo.

I mean it took you three hours but how the fuck do you come up with this? Did you read the comment and this was your first thought? Or do you have to be on Reddit for fucking ages for your mind to work out a reply like that instantly?

I'll never be famous on Reddit. :(

I had a couple moments of goosebumps reading this - do you think I can potentially have that Vermont ski trip feeling in the Austrian Alps? That's the closest ski region I can think of.

[–] South African rhino deaths by poaching is down by 100 in 2016 janjansohn 1 points ago in UpliftingNews

It's crazy to think about the extent that those poachers make. A lot of the parks are secured by guards, who are armed and ready to kill poachers if necessary.

If guards confront a poacher or a group of poachers, it not rarely ends up in a fire fight in which people get killed or severely hurt regularly.

We mostly hear about the big famous rich ones hunting and killing for fun and the trophy, but a big part of the poachers is just poor folk trying to fetch good money for rhino horn.

Source: am working for a tech company involved in an approach to lower the rhino deaths in a certain national park (since our solution is in place, not a single rhino has died in that specific park).

I'm replying so that I won't forget to check this out later. Thanks for the tip!

Does... does your username somehow relate to this?

[–] What's your most cringe-worthy childhood moment that you get reminded of constantly by relatives or friends from that time? janjansohn 1 points ago in AskReddit

Hahaha, I love that. Thanks for sharing!

I feel like stories like this one keep us in a cycle that just needed to be broken once. It's so weird to me how people can keep getting off of the same story for literally decades.

For me, it's a story my mum loves to tell at every second family dinner: we were at the butchers store in our little hometown (everybody knows each other kinda hometown). A really obese lady walked in and me, being very young, kinda whispered loudly to my mum: "Hey Mama, look, that lady is reaaaaally fat.". She obviously instantly wanted to disappear from the face of the earth, telling me it's not okay to say stuff like that. I was getting stubborn and told her: "But Mama, you told me to never lie!"

I hate it, and I want to just disappear into thin air whenever it comes up.
