By peer reviewed, she means they were reviewed by her fellow antivaxx moms.

Even so, I guarantee she still has the exact same terrible beliefs she's always had, regardless of how she feels about Trump. That's how easily you can get the right to turn on you. You can still have all the same beliefs, but now you just disagree with the wrong person.

It's all fine. It all worked out in the end.

The above conservation is a microcosm of modern Republican discourse, except they never get to this stage.

[–] Oh no jbreeding28 2 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

Yeah, I thought it was a case of "let's not criticize someone for this belief", when anyone would criticize the hell out of a Scientologist bringing it up. I assumed this person was just faceless and didn't have any history/reputation.

[–] Oh no jbreeding28 5 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

Thank you. I didn't know his history.

[–] Oh no jbreeding28 2 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

    Okay, why is he insane?

[–] Oh no jbreeding28 2 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

Would you say the same if they were a Scientologist?

No, but he did sigh lightly, stare off into the middle distance, and lightly smile as he thought about the "good old days".

They brought up that amendment in the conversation, and Moore insisted that the 17th Amendment was a perversion of what the Founding Fathers wanted.

As long as the national emergency doesnt break the constitution it is fine, and it wouldnt break the 5th ammendment as the govt would compensate the people who had their land taken.

Suddenly they're okay with the government taking people's land.

This would be funny if Roy Moore didn't openly suggest back around 2011 of getting rid of all the amendments after the original ten because it would "eliminate many problems".

[–] Top Mind over at r/AmITheAsshole states that black people have significantly less IQ than white people and that we as a society are not ready to talk about it jbreeding28 2 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

True. But even if you take what he's claiming as I'm pretty sure he intends it (with IQ being a perfect measure of intelligence), then he's still ignoring stuff. Even if you accept his argument on his level as true, which it isn't, his conclusion doesn't bear out.

[–] Top Mind over at r/AmITheAsshole states that black people have significantly less IQ than white people and that we as a society are not ready to talk about it jbreeding28 2 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

My favorite part is that even if what he's saying is true, it must be due to an inherent superiority white people have, instead of white people having an easier time in society and having more opportunities to get educated.

Hilarious how his ego won't let him devote an entire tweet to denigrating an opponent. He always has to say "Elizabeth Warren, who I sometimes call Pocahontas". He always has to inject himself.

And you know Trump's an idiot when the people defending this are claiming it's because Trump is too ignorant of American history to know what the Trail of Tears was.

[–] Top Minds malfunction when faced with the actual text of the 25th Amendment, revert to canned phrases jbreeding28 18 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

This is the exact wording of the part of the 25th Amendment in question (for those who aren't familiar).

[–] Top Mind stumbles upon reality while musing about RBG being dead, ignores it and moves on. jbreeding28 4 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

This is the logic where most conspiracy theories break apart for me. If a conspiracy involves anything beyond a small group (and a lot of conspiracy theories claim massive global conspiracies composed of hundreds or thousands of people), then someone's going to blab and have the evidence to back it up. People suck at keeping secrets, and someone will want fame/attention.

Obama already set the precedent that a President can ignore court rulings.

Actually that was Andrew Jackson, an asshole who ignored the Supreme Court to force Native Americans on the Trail of Tears. But of course Top Minds have a very limited knowledge of actual history.

[–] Top Mind comes to one of the dumbest conclusions I've ever come across jbreeding28 24 points ago in TopMindsOfReddit

In fairness, it's a common misconception among Americans about how powerful the President actually is. And executive power has been reaching farther and farther in recent years, mostly through neglect by Congress. But Trump's attitude seems to be that if Congress won't give him something, he'll just go get it on his own.

He is the epitome of Bender's blackjack and hookers line.

My problem with that comparison is that cars have other uses. They're used for transportation of people and things. Guns are literally designed just to kill things. People dying from guns isn't a bug, it's a feature.

It's also odd that the NRA uses that comparison. There's a relevant episode of a podcast called 99% Invisible called The Nut Behind the Wheel, which chronicles the early years of car safety laws and the fight to get them passed. Car companies tried to claim it wasn't their fault for people dying when they got into accidents, it was the drivers' fault. In other words, "Cars don't kill people. People kill people." It's a really interesting look into how America came full circle on automobile safety. It's a very interesting parallel to the NRA.

I don't think they realize that ~90% of America supports some form of gun control.
