[–] Just did a "power went out" practice run. My number one need: entertainment. kidra31r 17 points ago in preppers

What would they do during winter? Because here it's 7 at the earliest before the sun rises, and then it sets at 6. So did they just sleep for 12 hours? Happy cake day, btw, and thanks for this info cuz it makes sense for the most part, even if I'm still confused about winter.

I personally use Android, but I have to agree with your listed strengths for Apple. You have many more options with Android, which is a blessing and a curse.

[–] How should I tell the recruiter about my criminal background prior to a background check? (x-post from /r/AskHR) kidra31r 1 points ago in recruiting

I would suggest that you tell the recruiter that you have a single criminal incident, so you would like more information on the check. It's likely going to show up on the check regardless, so that much info shouldn't hurt your chances too much. If you have some means of verifying rehabilitation, such as completing court orders, etc, that can help. Showing your otherwise clean record and that you've gone to other places without incident should also help. Regardless, whenever the check results come back they're required by law to let you know they're not hiring you, and give you time to explain things. They don't necessarily have to accept your explanation, but they do have to give you that chance to defend yourself.

It's fine if you knead to make puns, but don't jam them down my throat.

Doughn't make any more puns, I can't take it.

[–] Who sends samples for their long term food storage? kidra31r 1 points ago in preppers

I got a few different packages of freeze dried food from Emergency Essentials for this exact reason. So if you order from them you should be able to get individual packets.

[–] January 02, 2019 - What did you do this week to prepare? - Weekly /r/Preppers Discussion kidra31r 6 points ago in preppers

I tried out 3 different items from Emergency Essentials: powdered eggs, freeze dried sausage crumbles, and freeze dried ground beef. I was very impressed with all three. They all needed a bit of salt, and the texture was slightly odd, but had I not known they were freeze dried I'm not sure I would have noticed. The only complaint I had was that instructions on both the beef and sausage used way too much water. I made two batches of the sausage, and on the second batch I used half the water it instructed and still had to drain a significant amount of liquid. I still have a packet of chicken I need to try out, but overall it seems like emergency essentials knows what they're doing, and it's definitely stuff I wouldn't mind eating if SHTF.

[–] Learned that disaster prep is part of the Mormon faith. kidra31r 5 points ago in preppers

I'm a Mormon (the full name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and I can confirm this. I've read about preppers getting made fun of, but in the church it's respected and pretty normal. Even if many members aren't as prepared as they should be they understand the idea and respect anyone who does do prepping.

Tried out different freeze dried foods to see what tastes decent, researched about raising chickens and rabbits, and brought in some supplies in case I need to bug in at work.

[–] All gamers have that one person on their friend list they played with once and seemed like the friendliest person in existence but then seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth. kidra31r 89 points ago in Showerthoughts

Back in the day I played RuneScape. My first or second day a higher level player helped me out a lot, making me armor and weapons much better than what I could have gotten that early otherwise. He was the first person I put on my friend's list, and every day I got on I would look to see if he was playing at the same time I was. He never was. So I kept playing and leveling up, always looking to see if he was on. But I eventually thought I would never find him again.

I eventually did meet him again, but I'm pretty sure he didn't remember me. To him I was just a random noob he helped and forgot about. But to me he was my hero, an example of how there were people out there who just wanted to help the new guy, even though the new guy had nothing to offer in return.

[–] Reliability of the economy kidra31r 8 points ago in preppers

I agree, getting out of debt is one of the best things you can do. Sure, i could be "losing" money by not having invested earlier, but if I get laid off or something I won't have debts hanging over my head. Get out of debt, get some savings, and then worry about investing.

If it's not it's easily in the top five. But I'm inclined to think it's number one.

    Good bot

Looks like someone crossposted from a different sub than I did, which is why I didn't get the alert.

I do the background checks for new hires, and getting documentation from people can be the worst. Especially since one of our clients will start the candidate before the background check is complete, meaning the employee feels no urgency to send me the documents. I had one check that was held up for 3 weeks because the candidate wouldn't send me a copy of their id. Once they sent it the check was completed in a day. Why is it so hard to email a picture? At least email me back if you're having issues!
